God save us from pseudo-scientific psychometric/strength/attribute/personality tests!
The problem with them for me is that the categorisation for each test is different - so 10 different tests will give 10 different profiles. And that's even if you answer honestly - they have no way of knowing that. Only a cretin could fail to spot the attempts to cross-check certain factors in those multiple choice confections
Like epic is back says, I've found over the years that essentially they are mostly used to provide a smokescreen for downsizing/restructuring that would be more difficult without 'evidence' - no matter how hokey...

Did you ask why? The Birkman test is for career aptitude. Seems like an odd test to have you take it they want to downsize.
-
Maybe they wanna fire senior staff/management and possibly give you a pay rise and promotion. Just not on quite the same pay as previous management.
-
F*ck these stupid Azz tests and interview questions.

Politely tell them you stopped taking tests when college ended. If anything, the time to "test" you was before hiring you.

If they wanted to fire you they would have without the test.
If you pass the test you will stay (and get a raise)
They're using the test to weed out the unwanted.

That will surely get him fired.

Agreed. When i worked for a large oil and gas operator, they would make all the staff take these tests from time to time in order to find out where they fit in the organization right before they re-structured. It was funny because we all new the shuffle was coming once the management started going to these classes and took these tests; shortly after everyone took them.
I had to take the Birkman test and i was in the yellow category. The company made us post the color chart on the doors to our offices, it was kind of weird. True story, i lost the opportunity to move up the ranks at this company because over a period of 3 years i took a bunch of these stupid tests and i was not categorized as empathetic. They wanted people in the key roles to be more down to earth and less rational. Well, this company folded 2 years ago and sold to a larger company that restructured the profile without all these retarded tests, they are successful now.
The thing i remember most is that there were so many horrible changes in management due to these tests; some of the people got promoted to key roles without a clue how to actually function in the role, but they fit the personality of someone that "should". It was really strange.

I'm surprised there haven't been discrimination lawsuits over this. You are promoted or replaced based on a personality test. ::)

^ This. :D

So, what did toi do with the tortoise on its back?
...oh sorry. That was the Voight Kamp test.

Haha I agree but unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of being in a position to think like that.
I especially hate seeing adverts for job opening worded “you will be dynamic and resourceful... ect ect” and first thought is intense urge to punch the stupid slavery useless stinking cunt in the face for sounding such a twat followed by sympathy for the poor bloke who actually has to apply for that job

I agree. Self employment is the only way to go.

I know right, it comes straight from HR so I'm sure there is a loophole around people filing complaints about it. The companies I know that do this the most are the big dogs like Shell, Exxon, Dell, Apple, Verizon, BP, etc. It's more common overseas too. So I'm sure they know how to manage it. Similar thing happen to my cousin who works at Chase Bank, he lost his Regional Manager position to a lady who had an outstanding score on many different tests.
I can actually remember when HR told me straight to my face that i didn't have the personality rating to be a senior manager. I was like WTF? My colleague was told directly by senior management that he got passed up on several promotions because he was too young and didn't need to make decisions at a high level; the guy was top of his class and the most amazing person i ever worked with. Others missed management opportunities because they were single and not considered "stable". It's pretty fucked up what large companies get away with.

Exactly mate, it has its ups and downs for sure but the feeling of freedom and not have to answer to any fucker is impossible to put a price on
-
Gayer than making your employee “take a personality test“

Tell them you're a getbigger and that should override any test.

At least it wasn't a Rorschach-test! :D
