Geesh- that is embarrassing. It looks like two old guys about to fight over who gets the recliner.
-
how do you train to get in a boxing ring and look like that?
They are not even that old....
-

Tyson did look better, then the postponement happened. I'm guessing the 3+ months of extra sitting around took some of the wind out of his sails.
-
Yes because only fighters with ballooned bodybuilder muscles can actually fight.

its not about balloon muscles its any semblance of body tone, Im 55 and wouldnt take my shirt off in the shower if I looked like that..

He looked better when he was photoshopped.
-
Jones looks the worst but both pretty sloppy. Their biceps nearly disappear when posed, a bit like in old cartoons when they'd tense a skinny arm and a tiny lump would pop up under the triceps ;D

Exactly. At least one person knows what they're talking about.
Martyn Ford would destroy these two
-
Tyson looks alright...
Jones is fat.

We go through this time and time again, and others have gone through this for decades. People just don't understand that real athletes are less concerned with how they look than how they perform. Those that look good have a genetic predisposition to look good. Combat training is not conducive to building muscles. And having muscles in fighting sports is no indication of how good of a fighter you are.
This is Daniel Cormier at peak shape as he just came off a training camp to step into the Octagon when this pic was taken. Cormier competed in the 2008 Olympics in wrestling and is a two division world champion in the UFC losing only to Jon Jones, the best fighter to ever come out of MMA, and then to Stipe Miocic whom he previously knocked out in the first round to become the Heavy Weight champion. Cormier was forty years old when he lost the rematch to Miocic in which he retired.
Wrestling is one of the most physically grueling sports and the athletes are in top shape and at a level few can attain. Daniel Cormier represents the elite of the elite of athletes in combat sports.

I agree with you, but in the case of Tyson and Roy they look like shit because they are old and out of shape ,the fight is going to be a joke ,you'll see
BTW in their prime both looked great ,Cormier always looked like shit .

I am still looking forward to watching it tonight. I think Mike is going to knock him out.

They're old but going by their videos they are in much better shape than most people, including about 80% of the people that go to the gym regularly let alone people their age.

I remember Kimbo and that other big Black dude that fought in Bellator. These guys trained every day prior to their fight. Lifting weights, running, sparring, wrestling, bag work... and still, they looked like they were about to have a heart attack -- actually, the other guy did have a heart attack while fighting Kimbo. When it comes to sports that require physical endurance by the time you are in your forties it pretty much over at the elite level.

Two old guys laying on each other for several rounds.

These two old men still have fast hands......the question is can they still move their feet. I have no idea what's going to happen in this fight but I hope neither of them get hurt.
-
Was impressed that Roy could take Mike's body punches. The first was a little boring with Roy locking Mike up every time he landed a punch.
-
What I don't understand is why are these 2 fighting, Mike Tyson is a heavy weight and Roy Jones is a lightweight, no? Tyson should be fighting someone his size, a heavyweight

That's an easy one -- money. I'd fight Tyson or Jones for a fat paycheck regardless of their weight.

As opposed to g4p, prancing around the stage with baby oil, entirely shaved body, in a thong, and putting your hand up to your ear for the crowd to cheer?
People in bbing were excited to see Levrone come back at 52 years old, even delusional jumbo palumbo thought he could beat phil

Get off the juice and see what happens
Im not on any juice and haven't touched a weight for around 2 months and eaten what I like and still dont look like that, these are meant to be guys who are training cardio for hours a day , the shape Cormier is in in the photo pellius posted he must have ben drinking bottles of vegetable oil

You know they love KFC and other junkfood

The exception not the rule, couture is the only person over 40 that has won a UFC championship fight.

Thats because they look after themselves and not let it all go...
-
Dont forget Alvey Culina, he beat Matt Hughes, both aging fighters. ::)
In all seriousness, I enjoyed the Netflix show "Kingdom".

Roy moved up every weight class all the way to win the HW title. They were close in weight at this fight. They did it for the money.

Hmm
After the bout, Tyson indicated he smoked another joint, apparently before he met with the media to discuss his first fight in 15 years.
"Listen, I can’t stop smoking," he said. "I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke, I’m sorry. I’m a smoker. … I smoke everyday. I never stopped smoking."
-
Bernard Hopkins?
Randy Couture?
Of course, there are exceptions, but even Couture use to complain that he didn't have the endurance he had when he was in his twenties despite having a better and more sophisticated training regime.
-
I finally had a chance to watch the fight yesterday and I thought Tyson did great. Jones was obviously winded but not Tyson. Watching that bobbing and weaving brought back fond memories. The Tyson era was great. I don't really follow boxing anymore but during the 1980s it was great. So many great and interesting fighters during that era.

Cormier is in one of the best shapes of his life. He just got off a gruelling training camp and is fighting for the UFC heavyweight championship. Daniel just never had
a ripped muscular physique. Even in his young days competing in the Bejing Olympics he was flabby. You don't get to the Olympics being lazy and out of shape. Big ripped muscles is no guarantee that you are in athletic condition. Does anybody really think Ramy, Roelly, Phil, or Curry could play a game of basketball or football, or go through even five rounds of boxing, or any sustained physical activity without passing out from exhaustion?
-
.
If that photo that say a winner will not be declared was out before the fight all the sports books should give the bets back a lot of people bet one way or the other I didn’t hear anyone saying they were betting draw

I just dont understand how they stay so fat and get that fit, thats my point, Im not dissing the guys , its just that if someone is training for hours a day they shouldnt be fat, Sumo guys amaze me as they do train hard..

Point taken. I don't get it either. Your body kind of "forms" to the type of life/activity you engage in. Marathon runners will look like concentration camp victims, couch potatoes look like potatoes, and you would think a wrestler, though not necessarily being ripped, will have more muscle to fat ratio. A prime B.J. would go through a whole class, maybe about a dozen guys of all sizes and skill levels, tapping them one by one and leaving them exhausted. And the guy looked like a fat buddha head with no discernible muscle. There was nothing about him that would make you think he was an athlete of any sort. Very puzzling.

Metabolism of some people is quite the conundrum!

They were both pulling their punches. If Mike hit him with a body shot with bad intent Roy would have been done.

Endurance doesn't drop with age. Power does, but not endurance. I've raced against 65 year old guys who outlast 99% of the people in the pack in a 60 mile ride. That is against guys 20+.
What does happen is your brain starts questioning why the hell you should train or work out so hard, lol If you are motivated you can do some amazing things as you get older: https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20015881/105-year-old-frenchman-sets-cycling-hour-record-for-age-group/
Even more impressive is this: https://imga.ch/2020/09/22/61-year-old-sets-blazing-fast-age-group-world-record-in-the-mile/

it puts up a valid argument that cardio alone is useless for fat loss.
Its all about calorific deficit
