Phil got robbed.

Haha Ramy smoked Phil.
-
Phil got robbed.
hahahahahahaaaa PHILDO was gifted third, no way he should've even been higher than 4th (and even that is being generous)
-
Well deserved sandow for Ramy. Now what will he do as Mr Olympia? Time will tell.
-
Cheath = Palumboism. Won't recover.
-
Phil will go down as the most hated Mr. Olympia
-
Beautiful Arabian Genetics ;D
-
He finally got shredded for the Olympia. But, to me, his legs are too big for his upper body and his calves. I would have given it to Curry again. But, congrats are in order for the big man.
-
So Ramy 1st? Phil 3rd? Where was Rhoden, or Curry's placings?
-

In fact he looks like a great big spider! LOL ;D
-
Ramy has paid his dues and paid his dues and paid his dues so I am happy for the man. Let's hope he puts out a good video or two while he is on top.
Come to think of it has Ramy ever done a training video a la "The Unbelievable" or no?
-

Ramy
Curry
Heath
Choopan
Bonac
Rhoden was in the third row ;D

In fact he looks like a great big spider! LOL ;D
haha ok Waller!!

You took the words right out of my mouth. He's a lot like Mike Katz from Pumping Iron. Actually, the first 21st century bodybuilder to whom I made that comparison was the late Art Atwood.
-
So Ramy 1st? Phil 3rd? Where was Rhoden, or Curry's placings?
Rhoden wasn't there (it appears he's still banned from competing). Curry got 2nd.
So, we have had three new Mr. Olympia in three years. Are people digging this or will we have yearning for the dynasty stuff?
Plus, I'm a bit sad that Dexter Jackson is retiring. But, congrats also to the 2008 Mr. Olympia. He went out in style and didn't get "16th" place repeatedly, the way Bannout did.

It’s refreshing to see that somebody different could actually win it, seeing as past Mr. Olympias had many titles they didn’t deserve.
-
Ramy is the first mr. Olympia to also win the amateur mr. Olympia.
-
4 different winners in the past 4 years, who will it be next year
-
Damn, Curry let someone take the Olympia from him on his first defense. He can only blame himself because his legs were not impressive at all. One cannot be Mr Olympia and have the worst legs in show.
Good job Ramy

Cheath = Palumboism. Won't recover.
Phil just turned 41 on Friday...I don't think he can do much to improve at this stage in the game, given he has already "maxed out". The most he can do is come as close as possible to maintaining what he has, trying to keep his waist as under control as possible, remain injury-free so he doesn't see an entire side of his body atrophy like we saw with Ronnie in 2006, and to a much greater extent - in 2007, and maintain the highest level of conditioning he can while doing all of that.
In other words, what he did this weekend is most likely the best he can do - literally the best he was able to do, so I can't knock the guy for being lazy, or not putting the time in. It's just that he won't be able to respond at 41 like he did at 31. Ronnie's last Mr. Olympia victory was in 2005, when he was 41.
Although...it's interesting to think that Shawn Rhoden was 43 when he won in 2018. :o Rhoden still holds the record for oldest Mr. Olympia, having beaten Chris Dickerson's longstanding record, who was also 43 when he won in 1982, but some months older than Rhoden's 43.
I had Phil in 2nd from the pictures that I saw, but I only looked over about 3-4 shots, lol. I would think anything between 2nd and 4th would have been fair, and if he got 3rd, that sounds about right to me. Good for him...but too bad it's now going to be basically impossible for him to tie Ronnie and Lee for eight Sandow trophies. I'm sure he wanted that, but...looks like he will have to be content tying Arnold's personal record for seven Olympia wins.
-
Phil will go down as the most hated Mr. Olympia
Christopher, what do you mean by hated? As in, for having a negative attitude and/or being a bad spokesman or "ambassador" for the "sport"? Or do you mean Phil will be the least impressive with respect to the reign of wins he had? Or...something else?
-

Sounds to me like you have an Ironage judging standard. That's fine...but by post-Haney era bodybuilding judging standards, I think Big Ramy deserved to win. Sure...he could bring down his legs to create more balance between his upper and lower body, or his upper legs and his calves...but ultimately, it's bodybuilding, and I don't think Ramy is like Tom Platz where he has massive legs but an upper body that wasn't even close. Ramy is big everywhere. His calves aren't small by any means - I would bet they are at least 20"...it's just that Ramy's legs are so big, your eyes can get drawn to the disparity. Maybe by an actual Ironage judging standard, Ramy should not have won. Like Serge Nubret beating Lou Ferrigno in 1975, even though Lou was 75-lb heavier and 5" taller than Serge...that made it clear that Ironage judging was definitely not solely about mass. Nor is today's judging - but it's much more about mass today than it was in the Ironage.
MCWAY, just one more thing. I've been meaning to ask you since 2004...do you agree with this statement?:
"From Goo to You by Way of the Zoo!"

True that!

.
Platz had a great upper body, especially his pecs and biceps (before he tore one of them). But, once you see those legs, it all gets lost in the wash. The same thing goes with Ramy. Ironically, I think if Lou Ferrigno at 6'5" had Elssbiay's legs, he would have been Mr. Olympia (don't those two tie the record for the heaviest Olympia competitor at 316 lbs?).
Curry had the opposite problem: great upper body but weak legs. He fixed it and won the O last year. Elssbiay fixed one problem (showing up shredded) but not the other (balancing those legs with his upper body and calves; that's also why, to me, Kai Greene could never best Phil Heath at the O). No, his calves aren't small, in and of themselves. But, compared to those ro-beast legs, the calves look like twigs.
That said, I think appearing super-shredded with his size is why he got the nod over Curry this time.
MCWAY, just one more thing. I've been meaning to ask you since 2004...do you agree with this statement?:

No.

Hopefully he can make a decent run before Chad kills him or cooks his kidneys.

He was part of the "Camel Crew", as Curry is now. I don't think Nicholls is part of that posse.

If anyone is familiar with the Ironage TV show "The Twilight Zone", please skip to the bottom to read my commentary on these two quotes in your head using Rod Sterling's voice please.

You are looking at two posts from two people who are very much different.
But whose posts above are actually very much the same.
The first post comes from a normal person.
The second post - which ultimately goes on to say the exact same thing, but is 75 times longer for some reason - comes from a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between this Getbigger's unintended light comedy and complete self-parody, between science and scientology, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Matt C Long Post Zone.
...
And it needs to stop on 2020-01-01. I can't believe I made the exact same post as SOMEPARTS, but it took me nearly 300 words to say what he said in four words. Wow...it's fascinating taking an introspective look at how annoying my posts must be for some people. I hope I'm not bothering anyone too much due to the time it takes to scroll past my posts once they see one is written by me.
Starting 2020-01-01, I'll be posting on Getbig from a smartphone, which will drastically reduce my post length.

Olympia just reached a new low.

Olympia just reached a new low.
I agree.
No way Heath should have been 3rd with that gut. 5th place at best
-
When I saw this shot I was impressed. Best thighs from the side that I have ever seen, even beats Tom Platz!
Congratulations to Rami.

.
Platz had a great upper body, especially his pecs and biceps (before he tore one of them). But, once you see those legs, it all gets lost in the wash. The same thing goes with Ramy.
Why does your post start with a dot? ;D Jk.
IMO, Platz had great pecs - especially in 1981, pre-biceps tear, and when his conditioning was spot-on [and IMO, when Tom should have been Mr. Olympia, but somehow placed 3rd, and Franco won with gyno]. IMO, Tom's chest was what best upper body strength. I don't recall thinking his biceps were, even pre-injury. And I felt his shoulders were small. I felt Tom Platz had an average to slightly below average upper body, and a WAY above average lower body. But you nailed it - once you look at the Tom's legs, it makes everything else look deficient - and I wonder where Tom would have placed in a hypothetical 1984 "Upper Bodybuilding" contest.
Maybe Tom's upper body was actually average to slightly above average, rather than average to slightly below average. It's hard to judge, with Tom having an upper body that pales in comparison to his legs which are pro level to this day at 65...making it hard for me to judge Tom's upper body fairly.
With Big Ramy, it's the same issue as Platz [overpowering legs], but a difference of degree. I felt Platz could have gained more upper body mass...maybe that's NOT the case, based either Tom having had enough upper body mass, but my inability to judge it fairly as I said above...or maybe Tom was genetically maxed out, and couldn't get any bigger, all things considered. It would seem unfair if Nature gave Tom Platz legs like that, but gave him an Arnold upper body...so maybe Tom could not have brought up his upper body to match his legs.
With Ramy, this monster has to be close to maxed out genetically. All that he can do to balance his quads would be to do what Shawn Ray did in 2001 - reduce his legs. Shawn explicitly said that, and - though subtle - felt he achieved that goal in his retirement Olympia contest, 4th place finish. I doubt Ramy could gain size on his upper body and calves at this point...so downsizing his legs would be the only way he could balance his legs with both his upper body and his calves, IMO.
But as overpowering as Ramy's legs are - so is his upper body, lol. The disparity isn't as noticeable for Ramy as it is with Platz. Does any pro bodybuilder have a bigger torso than Ramy? Was there any bodybuilder competing that had a bigger upper body than Ramy? IMO, his overpowering legs are accompanied by an overpowering torso. He's so far ahead of everyone in size, that I don't see this changing for years. Especially now at 35 - entering a bodybuilder's prime. IMO, the only thing Ramy needs to do is focus on being refined, and FORGETTING about gaining size. Much like Kai Greene at this point 10 years ago - he JUST needed his best conditioning. If Ramy nails his conditioning, I can't see anyone catch up to his mass in the near future. And Ramy DID nail his conditioning tonight. :)
Ironically, I think if Lou Ferrigno at 6'5" had Elssbiay's legs, he would have been Mr. Olympia (don't those two tie the record for the heaviest Olympia competitor at 316 lbs?).
Who wins: 1975 Arnold or 1993 Lou?
I'm disappointed I forgot Ferrigno's max Mr. Olympia contest weight. :-\ :( :-[ :'( In pamith's recent thread about Lou's strength, I stated Lou was 318-lb in contest:
It's possible...he was 318-lb at the 1993 Mr. Olympia which was just around his 42nd birthday.
But it is in fact YOU who are correct, sir: Lou was 316-lb. I never read or heard what Ramy's biggest weight ever was, so I don't know...I think I recall possibly Chris Aceto saying it was something like 310-lb the year he placed 2nd [2017?], and I think he was 350-lb in the previous offseason [??? That's crazy, given that Ramy is 5'10"], so I could see it being 316-lb, despite how shocking that weight is for a shredded bodybuilder. :o
So you might be right about Big Ramy sharing the biggest Mr. Olympia competitor contest weight record with Lou's 1993 record at 316-lb. It's announced in this video from the 1993 Mr. Olympia, which is where I misremembered the false 318-lb figure that I stated in pamith's new Lou thread:
Curry had the opposite problem: great upper body but weak legs. He fixed it and won the O last year. Elssbiay fixed one problem (showing up shredded) but not the other (balancing those legs with his upper body and calves; that's also why, to me, Kai Greene could never best Phil Heath at the O). No, his calves aren't small, in and of themselves. But, compared to those ro-beast legs, the calves look like twigs.
That said, I think appearing super-shredded with his size is why he got the nod over Curry this time.
Absolutely agree on the reason Big Ramy won - he was objectively the biggest, freakiest bodybuilder on stage doing battle and going for war, and he was by no means soft. I'll put it like this - Ramy's conditioning was an inch away from the best on stage, but his size was a mile ahead of the rest of the best on stage. To me, this wasn't a close call - Ramy won, IMO, quite similarly to how Ronnie won in 2003. I really can't see how anyone wouldn't have Ramy winning. How can someone put Phil or Brandon, both of whom Ramy was dwarfing, ahead of him?
I didn't realize that Kai Greene had the issue of balancing his legs with his upper body and calves. Kai was MASSIVE - and in person while offseason was one of the pound-per-inch front-to-back thickest men I have ever seen in my LIFE, to the point that I feared for his health, he was so huge...someone told me that Tom Prince had that sort of look too around 1997 in the offseason [which is funny because Tom and Kai are both about the same height - 5'7.5"]. Just so thick that you can tell you're looking at a man who nature did NOT intend for him to be that big.
I never felt Kai had the aesthetic jacked look that Phil had. IMO, Phil's arms, chest, and back shape were more aesthetic than Kai's, but it's hard to explain - if you compare both in the front double biceps, I think you can sort of see the superior "look" Phil's arms had, even including veins. I would give the size advantage to Kai. I felt that Kai was more like Markus Ruhl in that he was lacking shape, but just MASSIVE - and with that much mass, providing he brought excellent conditioning, would be a threat to any bodybuilder at any contest - including Phil Heath at the Olympia. Markus Ruhl is not the perfect example [I realize that Markus did very well in his career, but was never at Kai's level], but the comparison is not completely wrong either - Kai didn't necessarily have the most beautiful physique...but I always felt his issue in contest was conditioning...this was one area where Phil was just very consistent in, whereas Kai had a tendency to show up off more often than Phil did. And I think the reason was because Kai somehow got it in his mind that he needed to be HUGE, when in reality, he did not need another ounce of muscle mass...he simply needed to bring the best conditioning possible to the table. And I feel that Big Ramy is doing the same thing Kai did - just continue to focus on mass when the very LAST thing he needs is more size. The only thing Big Ramy should be thinking about - which is the only thing Kai Greene should have been thinking about four years ago - is conditioning.
Last I checked this was the Mr. OLYMPIA contest, not the Mr. Manletpia contest.
Of all things, you waited SIXTEEN years to ask me that? ;D
No.
LOL! Yep - 16 years, at least. It may have even been 17 years...you posted that in either 2003 or 2004. We both joined in 2003. ;D

I can't argue with you there. If Curry were a bit bigger, he may have won it, due to his having better balance.
Who wins: 1975 Arnold or 1993 Lou?
It depends. If the judges are old-school (as in Ironage dude from the late 60s or earlier), Ferrigno would get marked down for being too ripped and Schwarzenegger would get the nod.
I'm disappointed I forgot Ferrigno's max Mr. Olympia contest weight. :-\ :( :-[ :'( In pamith's recent thread about Lou's strength, I stated Lou was 318-lb in contest:

I'm not sure. But, I think Ramy got 3rd when he weighed 316 at the Olympia (that might be 2016). He came in lighter (around 285 or 290) when he placed 2nd to Heath.
I have this on tape, the 1993 Mr. Olympia. I recorded it on ESPN back in summer of 1994 (around 1 or 2 in the morning, while home from college).
I could, but again, it'd be Curry ahead instead of Heath. To use another Pumping Iron reference, I see Ramy as Mike Katz (though in better shape) and Curry as Ken Waller. Katz was bigger with freakier body parts. But Waller had the more complete package.
BTW, no T-shirts were harmed or hidden during the 2020 Olympia.
Greene is a lot like Ronnie Coleman. He competed reportedly as a natural bodybuilder for years. He won the WNBF Mr. Universe in 1995 and won the Team Universe twice, 1999 and 2004. I first heard of him via an article from MD....when it was All-Natural Muscular Development in 1997 (that issue is in the garage in one of my milk crates. Those crates came in handy during the coronavirus lockdowns ;D ).
Once he hit the anabolics, he sprouted like a weed.
Right on the money with Greene. With his mishmashed body parts, he didn't need any more size. If anything, he needed to be super-shredded and bring down those legs. Had Greene been peeled, Heath would have been toast in 2014.
To Elssbiay's credit, he starved himself silly for this one. He can't math Curry's shape and proportions and just became the best version of himself that he could. If he were a little off or holding any water, Curry would have two Sandows.
LOL! Yep - 16 years, at least. It may have even been 17 years...you posted that in either 2003 or 2004. We both joined in 2003. ;D
Two questions, MCWAY:
[1] Is that an Irish name?
[2] Did you coin the phrase "From Goo to You by Way of the Zoo"?
No. My name is a childhood nickname, based on my real name, given to my by one of my best friends from elementary/middle school.
No. As for that phrase, I've seen that quip used in biology books from Christian schools.

Not a fan of modern bodybuilding. Big Ramy didn't just win it. He was light years ahead. Of course there isn't a bodybuilder alive or dead that you can't criticize. Yes his rear delt looks oil filled but the complete package looked amazing. He destroyed the rest on stage. Everyone else were just going for second, third and fourth.

4 different winners in the past 4 years, who will it be next year
Hunter Labrada...if he performs the dirty deeds for all the right people.

I'm happy for Ramy

Well deserved win. He destroyed the comp here.

Christopher, what do you mean by hated? As in, for having a negative attitude and/or being a bad spokesman or "ambassador" for the "sport"? Or do you mean Phil will be the least impressive with respect to the reign of wins he had? Or...something else?
By the fans pretty much. He's the least humble Mr. O I've ever seen. I don't get feeling other pro bobybuilders like him at all either. They respect him as a competitor and quite a few consider him the greatest Mr. O second to Ronnie. But most don't like him personally. He turns down any interviews from RX or any of the bb youtube channels. He threatened to sue Nick's Strength and Power just because they dared to be critical of him. Just a very disliked champion. The most disliked champion

Bringing out the big-nosed bald guy in his legs cinched the win.

According to the commentators, per Lee Labrada's tweet, Hunter was conceived when the Labradas got freaky during Olympia weekend in 1991, the last time it was in Orlando.

haha ok Waller!!

I think Matt C. is actually fucking insane!!

Phil will go down as the most hated Mr. Olympia
With the narrowest clavicles and one of the smallest chests. I still think he should never have won any - he’s just a small man with big arms

Phil will go down as the most hated Mr. Olympia
Indeed.
Naturalwonder said it best:
Phil is a real winner
Used his wife's cancer to further his career then dumped her
Abandoned his step son
Harassed and threatened and lied about a gym receptionist
Insulted police officers then deleted his insults
Photo shops his pics
Steps over the line on stage
Talks on his phone and texts takes selfies in workouts
Has his mom defend him online
Is proud about thinking he's the only bodybuilder with trading cards when it's been done before him
Looks diabetic
Talks to hammer strength incline press machines
Mangy bald spots on head
Narrow shoulders
Bird chest
Overdeveloped arms
Failed supplement company owner
Effeminate voice
Has done nothing to further bodybuilding
Lives in a shit hole
Hated by fans worldwide
No one goes to his after party
Not respected by other bodybuilder
A piece of fucking shit

Bringing out the big-nosed bald guy in his legs cinched the win.

So that's what uncle junior looks like without the hair piece

By the fans pretty much. He's the least humble Mr. O I've ever seen. I don't get feeling other pro bobybuilders like him at all either. They respect him as a competitor and quite a few consider him the greatest Mr. O second to Ronnie. But most don't like him personally. He turns down any interviews from RX or any of the bb youtube channels. He threatened to sue Nick's Strength and Power just because they dared to be critical of him. Just a very disliked champion. The most disliked champion
Yet phil has more followers than jay and curry on social media
Never understood the notion of being humble
A lot of champions aren’t humble, MJ, kobe, mayweather, Tyson, etc...

I think Matt C. is actually fucking insane!!
Ever hear of being concise and getting to the fucking point...........nobody in their right mind reads your posts.
I like Matt and he has good points sometimes. But the longwinded posts... I don't think anybody reads that. I wouldn't read it even if the president posted it.
I think Matt posts for himself. Some kind of selfhelp for ADHD maybe.

Olympia just reached a new low.
Why? It was really entertaining. Ramy Curry and Hadi looked incredible. Heath got a gift. The 6-10 looked decent.

But charisma is important. Humble and charisma are two different things. You can be more arrogant If you have redeeming features.

Yeah, for instance, Ali talked a lot of shit and could be a nasty person (how he treated Frazier before their fights). But on the balance he still seemed like a nice enough guy that the good outweighed the bad. An the charisma was infectious where you knew he was playing it up.
Phil just comes off as a douchebag.

Ya I didn't say he was a bad guy or not intelligent. I don't come on here to read a book.

Size is everything now (Not just huge arms but huge legs and back now)
-
He deserved the win.
Heath looks terrible. What's going on with his quads?
Hang up the thong Phil, don't turn into Kamali.

In a way yes, i think Curry has an odd flow to him.
Phil used to look insane, but i think his time has come and gone.

Heath had better legs than Curry, Curry's calves looked small, Curry had a better most muscular but Heath had a better back double biceps

Working out like a frail woman and relying on drugs and genetics won't work forever. At his age it takes hard work to get the same results and working hard is not his style.

Your opinion sucks. ;D
Just kidding but I disagree. I'd have had Phil in 6th.
Ramy
Hadi
Akim
