For chest I figure push ups,as they get easier I`ll elevate my feet in a chair and probably dips,back will be bent barbell rows,and bent-over laterals {kind of limited here}.shoulders Bradford Press,Lateral raise,front raise,bent over laterals.....I`ll probably do them all in a row no rest then a few sets of wide grip upright rows,alternate dumbell curls,french press,barbell curl,one arm extrnsions done as Super-Sets...........ab work and lots of walking everal times a day, with calves done on a nice block I constructed years ago.
Obviously not trying to compete or get huge.......... just lean out and look... SIMPLY MARVY. LOL ;D.
I know for a fact that most older guys should stop competing at a certain age but if I hadn`t have been a fool and fucked myself medically I bet I could still look great with just a bit of gear.{FUCK TONY PEARSON}............but alas,I must pay the proverbial piper as must we all in one way or another.
At 6I years of age {I`ll be 66 June 7th and yes gifts are welocome} I was squatting sets of 10 for a few sets with 315 and of course these were real squats no curtsy shit,did 3 sets of deep flyes with the 65 pounders for 12 perfect reps with less than 60 second rest between set and reps on inclines with 225..........all weighing around 160-165.
Nothing incredible but credible for being 61 years old.
A few D-Bols,a couple shots of Test per week was all I was taking and I was fucking ripped to shreds also.
With muscle memory and knowiing my body like a book if I apply myself,and I`m determined to do so, I should look far better in 90 days and almost as good as Marty in a few decades ;D

Oh yeah, forgot to add triceps dips between benches.......one of my all time favorites...........shou ld be stacking 9-10 plates in my lap for a millimeter of a rep range in no time, just like the clowns on YouTube !!

Hey good luck...trust me it's possible, I switched to calisthenics about eight years ago and it made a huge improvement in my physique...I'm almost 64, clean, use absolutely nothing except coffee and I'm better now than I was at 30..I do every body part every day...hey it works for me..just get that pump and feel each rep

What's your routine? I have a brother in law like that. He's 63. He runs 5 miles hard 4 to 5 times a week. Then he does his body weight thing. He looks in great shape and has a very lean muscular physique. In his younger days he looked in amazing shape on the beach. Zero weight lifting.

Well ...to tell the truth I actually work out twice a day seven days a week, mornings I rotate arms, back, legs and chest ( using dip bars, pull up bars and a zane leg blaster. Evenings everyday I'll do one set of 75 pushups, laterals for a set of 24 with ten pound plates, 40 sit ups , a set of 20 good mornings with (2) 40 pd dumbbells, and a set of 20 forearm curls with the same 40 pound dumbbells, calf raises on my stairs for a non stop set of 60 and a set of 30 shrugs with a stretch cable...sounds like a lot but you can bang out the whole thing in half an hour....j

I know for a fact I can look extremely good due to my knowledge of diet and my work ethic is second to none of course it will be lessened by my COPD..........I`ll just do my best as I have always tried to do.

Seems like a good routine. One question about doing several exercises in succession, isn't that going to be a problem with COPD? Measured breathing and short rests seems like it would be better. But, you're the expert not me.
I have a routine where the rest time is really short, like not more than 30 seconds between sets. It's just enough for me to be able to calm my breathing. There are a couple of exercises where I need a minute or two, those being leg presses and squats with added weight I can pretty much do squats with very little rest between sets when it's just me I'm pushing up.
Not so funny story about push ups. Many years ago I was on a body-weight only exercise routine. When push ups became too easy, I decided to do them with three chairs, one to put my feet on and one for each hand. My idea was to go deep and get a good stretch. I ended up doing something to my left hand. It blew up like a balloon and hurt so bad that I was cussing out loud all the way to the hospital. By the time I got to emergency, my hand was so hot I thought it was going to spontaneously combust if something wasn't done quick. If I remember correctly, the folks in emergency didn't seem to know what to do. I think they injected cortisone into my hand and sent me home. The next morning my hand looked skeletal like the inflammation had burned off what little meat there is on someone's hands. In a couple of days, the hand was back to normal.

oh no I feel better after the replacement than I have in about 5 years.Doc said “Holy shit that’s the worst hip I ever saw” He said I should have done it 2 years earlier. Feels great now. Go get em Wes we are all hoping the best for you.I also have seen guys like you who are naturally lean get in shape in no time.

Doing anything physical with Stage 4 COPD is a problem. {To any assholes here that insist I want your sympathy as my malady was self inflicted, as if I ever claimed otherwise, you can suck my ass..........you know who you are.........the board assholes.}

As a general rule when I trained, I trained using what Vince Gironda called the "Intensity Factor.".......or some other stupid shit.... I forget. ;D
My credo was very brief rest periods going as heavy as possible for the rep goal I had set in my mind, whether that be 6 reps or 20 reps...........didn`t matter.
For example if you and I were both genetically alike, same age, same strength level, same diet, etc etc,............and we both did the exact same workout routine using the exact same poundages, but it took you 2 hours to complete the training session, and it only took me 45 minutes to complete it, that means that even though we did EXACTLY the same thing I trained much harder cuz I did mine in a shorter amount of time.................... Vinces Intensity Factor".....or whatever the fuck he dubbed it LOL ;D
Most amount of work done in the shortest amount of time = INTENSITY....of course other variables can come into play.
Nowadays I will not perform my next set until my breathing has returned to normal.....no matter how long that may take as I could possibly have a coronary.......who knows at my age with my present maladies.
I will still give training my all, it will just have to be adjusted to my present physical ability, and my hopefully increasing level of fitness once I get training underway.
I will not lollygag between sets, but I wont race like I used to as I dont see myself prancing around on stage in a pair of panties any time soon.........or anytime at all for that matter.
So I`m just doing this solely for me...........no other reason.......just as it should be anyway.
I just want to improve...... so I will train as hard as my body ALLOWS me to.............I`ll push myself but I will err on the side of caution.
In essence I never rested much more than a minute or so ...............longer between sets of leg work of course because the oxygen debt would be higher.
Just a tad before my breathing returned to normal, is when I would start my next set...............not when I caught my breath, but JUST BEFORE I caught it...........except on legs usually.
Back in the day I would do Super-Sets or Tri-Sets or Giant-Sets, or Triple Drop-Sets,etc ,etc. in an effort to make my training more intense......I would LITERALLY run from exercise to exercise at times jumping over benches to get to my next station..............no rest was my mantra.
I didn`t give two fucks if people thought I was nuts I had a goal in mind and I did what I felt it took to reach that goal or even surpass it.
I was never HUGE but have been told about a million times in the gym, from complete strangers usually, that I was a fucking animal or trained like an uncaged beast.
All part and parcel for me as I loved training balls to the wall. and would never let anyone outdo me if I could help it.
Ever hear of Nancy Kerrigan.........well I taught Nancy all she knew. LOL ;D
My intensity level will be there as always, but it will just be toned down for safteys sake.

What initially got me interested in calisthenics was watching a few Russian street workout videos, just Google it there's hundreds of them. These guys have incredible builds and have a good time working out , if you have a good base from the weights ( which I'm certain you do) it'll really work for you

From what I've been told by folks who have had both hip and knee replacements, hip replacements are easier to recover from. A good friend of my has has both of his hips replaced. When he had the second hip replaced, I stayed with him during the day for awhile in case he fell because his wife had a business to run and couldn't take time off. He was fine or said he was in about a week.

Would like to hear why 150 mgs of test every 7-10 days would put you in jeopardy. I obviously don’t know anything about your medical condition beyond what I’ve read here but I would think a true TRT dose of test would be rehabilitative and therapeutic if anything.

OK guys I`ll divulge something here that I`ve only told one other person on the board...........cuz a lot of assholes on here think I want their fucking sympathy or they tell me it was all self induced......sympathy... ......shove it.........self induced,I`m dumb not stupid of course it was self induced I never said it wasn`t.
One day while sitting on my couch watching TV while my wife was asleep in the other room I got a strange,wei,rd and very painful sensation in my chest.
Now I`ve been through a lot of shit in my day and have experienced some serious fucking pain but this was something unlike I ever felt before.
Of course I figured I was having a heart attack or at the least a mini-stroke...........anyway I debated whether to wake up my wife to take me to the ER, but with my dumb ass I decided to see if I could ride out the pain.
I rode it out all right for an agonizing 20 minutes before it subsided................ ......most fucked up 20 minutes I had in eons.
Two weeks later I had it again but only for 2-3 minutes or so.
Since then,and that was months ago,thank God, I never had it return so I`m not hopping back on a cycle.
Something I never truly did in all my years of training and competing was working out with being healthy in mind so that is now my major goal.

I had my hip done at about 6o’ clock on a Friday evening then got up and walked at 9 the next morning.A deep grinding pain that I had been living with around the clock for almost 5 years was gone too.
This is amazing and really good too. My hips are fine thank goodness. My right knee has given me trouble off and on ever since I had surgery on it which was about 7 years ago. Lately, if I sit for too long, it doesn't want to work when I first get up...kind of like Chester Goode on 'Gunsmoke'.

Make that whole milk then. None of that watery 2% stuff. When I was still in my 20's a coworker who had a farm would bring me whole milk that you had to shake before drinking to mix the fat which sat at the top in. I gained a lot of weight during that time and the milk tasted sooo good.

Since I had lung Cancer and COPD I`ve been eating like shit and have been pretty sedentary cuz if I exert myelf I cant breathe for shit,so I have developed a gut for the first time in my entire life.
BUT,I am determined to regain a good build..............no check that........... a great build
I am going to embarass myelf to no end by posting some before pics.
All I`ll be using is a few tools of the trade no gym or machines..............an d a strict diet.

Well ...to tell the truth I actually work out twice a day seven days a week, mornings I rotate arms, back, legs and chest ( using dip bars, pull up bars and a zane leg blaster. Evenings everyday I'll do one set of 75 pushups, laterals for a set of 24 with ten pound plates, 40 sit ups , a set of 20 good mornings with (2) 40 pd dumbbells, and a set of 20 forearm curls with the same 40 pound dumbbells, calf raises on my stairs for a non stop set of 60 and a set of 30 shrugs with a stretch cable...sounds like a lot but you can bang out the whole thing in half an hour....j
Just amazed at how people can train 7days a week, and in your case, twice a day. Not even one day off just to break the monotony. You must be part robot. It's like your whole life revolves around exercising.
I always made sure that training and working out was to enhance the quality of my life and never wanted to make it my life. Two to three days a week for me. I have other things to do.

I know for a fact I can look extremely good due to my knowledge of diet and my work ethic is second to none of course it will be lessened by my COPD..........I`ll just do my best as I have always tried to do.
I think it should be clear what we are talking about. People are saying that because of your condition taking hormones would be dangerous. Why? Without hormones, you couldn't function. It's one thing if you are talking about getting on an anabolic steroid stack with a variety of compounds like the typical dbol, Deca, Test, AE/AI... but if your testosterone level is at around 200 ng/ml you are not going to progress very far. There's a huge difference between use and abuse. Just getting to around 600-650 ng/ml would make a big difference and you will be well within the reference range. And depending on your IGF levels, easily checked. I'd definitely consider some replacement dose of GH. I'm sure many here will scream about that saying it will only cause more risks to cancer. Again, use not abuse. You need GH. It is what helps you recover from the normal day to day break down from just being alive. As your GH starts to diminish so does your ability to repair yourself and you just slowly waste away.

I'm not sure what you are trying to imply here. Does Testosterone cause heart attacks?
By far, most of the health conditions bber experience is not from steroids per se. It's just being so damn big. Even if you are lean and eating chicken and brocolli having an extra 50 to seventy pounds of muscle on you is a huge strain on your heart. A strain that doesn't let up. It's 24/7 for year after year. Steroids plays a role but it's an indirect role. It what allows you to be so big. Far bigger than your body was designed to be.
At my age, when I think of hormones as it relates to health I'm not thinking syringes and vials. I'm thinking about getting my levels into the normal reference range determined by a blood test. This also includes hormones like DHEA, T3, T4, estrogen... So for me, it doesn't matter if I get to that range naturally or through pills or injections. All that matters is that I am within the normal reference range. In my case, this requires that I take Testosterone, DHEA, T3 and T4 pills. My estrogen use to be on the high side but that has been cured and I don't need it anymore. Again, all determined by a blood test. If my estro starts to creep up then I will go back on aromasin.
Ask yourself, are you less or more healthy if any of your hormone levels are below the reference range? Will you be healthy if it were all normalize no matter what the source?

My waist went from 36 inches to 27 inches back in 1995 the first time I did the Southern States show..........took 1st. in my class of 5 guys when everyone at the gym told me the show was way out of my league.
At 57 years of age. my waist was between 32-33 inches at around 165-168.
By July 1st come Hell or high water my waist will be around 32-33 or damn it I`ll attend a strangers funeral. ;D

As one grows old your body stops producing various things that made you young and healthy. I never understood that because I always thought your body, and your nature, was always to survive. Your body will always do what it can to remain alive. But a doctor once told me, and it put it all in perspective, that we are not programmed or design to live forever. That would endanger no the individual but the whole species in general.
Everything comes to an end, but as he explained to me, we now have ways to not only extend that end but also the quality of life before you get to the end.
It's up to the individual which way he wants to go.

Your advice seems sound to me based on personal experience. Having had prostate cancer some folks will argue that I should not be on TRT. But, I also have a long history of hypogonadism which causes my natural test levels to be very low. I feel so much better since starting TRT many years ago. Thank goodness my urologist agrees with this therapy.

Of course, you enjoy it. That is a given or you wouldn't be doing since you don't have to. My comments was to express that I never understood it. To be exercising all the time. For me exercise was a means to an end but never an end in itself. In other words, if I could be in tip top shape just taking a pill I would do it and never step foot in a gym. I would spend more time on the Jiu-Jitsu mat, the Hawaiian surf, hunting, fishing, hiking...

Diet is far better............probab ly about a zillion calories less than I was eating and much better food.....no junk.
I have NEVER stretched in my life and damn I`m rusty............gonna` hit up YouTube and get into "stretching for beginners" and go from there.
After training ,then cardio for 30 -60 minutes, , I used to say fuck stretching I want my PW meal.
I`ll be sore as Hell tomorrow haven`t really done jackshit for exercise in a long time.

Fuck the dumb shit....I just trained like an uncaged fucking animal for 60 to 90 minutes, then did gruelling cardio for 30,45,or 60 minutes depending on my goal,fuck stretching.........to me it felt gay to stretch.....I have nothing against gay people just an expression,(so gay members put the guns down)....... but damn my joints are fucking stiff.
I`ll give my other stiff joint to my wife later tonight. ;D

I have got to start stretching too.I also knew better long ago but when I had an extra 20 minutes instead of stretching I would get on the treadmill for more cardio or find some other reason to skip it. I have a friend who is 75 and still trains and he tells me his biggest training regret is not starting a stretching program sooner.Best of luck Buddy

I added stretching to my workout program years ago and it has been a real help with lower back issues I was having.
The mismatch between the fronts of my quads and my hamstrings had gotten to the point where it was causing me alignment and pinched nerve issues.
