Title: Every new American Car to have a Breathalyzer.
Post by: cart@@n on August 07, 2021, 05:54:03 PM
You will need to blow in order to start your car.
Also a tracker device to tax driving per mile.

This is fine. Mandatory vaccinations, mandatory sober driving.

Hmm....mandatory sober driving might save more lives.

According to the reports, in Oregon the unvaccinated are who is getting sick enough to need hospitalization and time in the ICU. While it is a strain on hospitals and staff, the part of me that's meanspirited is telling me that people get what they deserve. If you want to be vaccinated, you should already have done so. If you don't and you prefer to believe the whole COVID thing is just a worldwide government and drug manufacturer conspiracy, well then, that's the risk you apparently are willing to take. Fine. If you should somehow get seriously ill with COVID, don't expect anyone to feel bad for you.

I could be wrong, but it looks like we are headed back to more restrictions and more mask requirements. Many major retailers are already going in that direction. I'm pissed off! Just when it looked like we might get back to a level of normalcy, everything is blowing up all over again. Might as well move to a desert island and live out the rest of one's life as a hermit. This sucks.

As a society we've done a good job of reducing drunk driving.  I think the proposed requirement is unnecessary.

https://www.responsibility.org/alcohol-statistics/drunk-driving-statistics/drunk-driving-fatality-statistics/#:~:text=Underage%20Drunk%20Driving%20Fatalities%20%E2%80%93%20National,1982%20to%20980%20in%202018.

In 2018, the rate of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities per 100,000 population was 3.2, representing a 65% decrease since 1982, when record-keeping began, and a 49% decrease since the inception of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility in 1991.

If you can't drive drunk why does every place that serves alcohol have a parking lot? The economy will be severely impacted. Bars and restaurants will be go under having their sales of alcoholic beverages go down to two drinks per person. Imagine Monday night football at a bar with no one drinking? People will stay home.   Seriously, Democrats are great at destroying economies. The only recent economy that didn't crash was under Clinton that encouraged government to keep their hands off the economy created by Reagan.

This idea of mandatory breathalyzer cars is a MYTH to get people worked up and fund raise.

Like any effective myth, it needs some kernel of TRUTH to become credible and spread.
There are court ordered , installed breathalyzers .

****BUT only those with multiple convictions of drunk driving ***

Plus, a law like this would never pass constitutional muster.
It's a clear 4th amd. violation of illegal "search and seizure" .

You can't require a breathalyzer without proper "due process".
That's why cops have to see you weaving or driving crazy, etc
THEN most still give a basic sobriety test BEFORE a breathalyzer.

Stop supporting drunk drivers. You dont have the RIGHT to drive drunk.  Mandatory breathalyzers will ELIMINATE the issue of drunk driving until autonomous vehicles are commonplace.

I don't drink booze and hate drunk driving.

BUT, we can't throw out the US Constitution to end it.
The USA already tried to ban booze with a failed attempt called "prohibition".

I’m glad we are on the same page with this and  I agree we should bring back prohibition. But these drug addicted criminals behind bars for life if they won’t conform.

Unless you want to live without rights under a total autocrat, THAT won't happen.
I'll take the messy system of western democracy vs living in North Korea under a dictator.

I’m talking about America Howard.

Just because some potheads voted to make weed legal doesn’t mean the whole country wants these dangerous drugs available.

Same with alcohol.

How many deaths by drunk driving are needed before we eliminate the problem? We have the option of eliminating booze, where all law abiding citizens suffer, or we make it virtually impossible for drunks to drive. Driving a car isn’t a right. It’s a privilege.

We use seat belts and airbags for safety, breathalyzers are the next “safety” step to irradicate this problem.

to root deeply

My whole point is invalid.

What about people driving high?  I'll bet there are more people today driving stoned than there are driving drunk.

Can this be determined through breathalyzers?

If not I'm open to blood tests to start a car. And we need to utilize vaccine passports to drive as well.

Too much sarcasm. You start out fine, but you always go overboard after a few posts and give yourself away.

I don't smoke pot, drink booze or do any rec drugs. So, we're on the same side in terms of personal behavior.
BUT, I don't think we should impose harsh rules on others , for things we don't like or enjoy doing.

Plus, congress had to move "heaven and earth" to make seat belts mandatory in cars.

You'd have better luck making Blow job robots mandatory then breathalyzers in cars.
The cost $$$ ALONE to auto makers to  install every car with a breathalyzer , make it a nonstarter.

I don't think it ca be.  There aren't as many drunks on the road today as in decades past because of strict punishments for breaking the law and the fact that bars and nightclubs are ghost towns now.  I don't know if any studies have been done on drivers driving stoned but I'm sure it's a lot who make up for the lack of drunks.  The drunk alcoholics of the 70's and 80's are the meth heads, heroin addicts and stoners of today.

Driving high, while not advisable is quite different than when drunk. When stoned you don't lose control of your motor functions to nearly the same extent.

You have idiots who can't walk in a straight who convince themselves they can drive home

I dunno, we had plenty of drunks WITH countless stoners and acid droppers on my college campus  back in the 70's.
I don't "think" stoners are as dangerous driving as drunks, but I could be wrong.

Most of the down turn in bar biz is due to covid during the past 18 months.

How many drunk drivers get pulled over within 10 miles of a stadium within 2 hrs after a game ends?

Driving high is illegal.

Bars and nightclubs were in decline before Covid partly because of the strict drunk driving laws.  The NFL stops selling drinks in the 3rd quarter of games after a NY Giants fan ran over some people drunk after the game.  Of course, if you are really drunk in the 3rd quarter you won't be sobered up by the end of the game.

I have never heard of a study testing stoned drivers but I'm sure it is as bad as driving drunk.  Heroin even more so.
