And did you say you could deadlift 585 for 20 reps, Tommy? Or am I misremembering that? I think you said you could do it for 12, but within a few weeks could get it up to 20. That's what I can do with 405 at 40, which I consider pretty strong.

405 for 20 is incredibly strong! I don't know about wishbone's deadlifting, but I seem to remember a video of him squatting 500 or possibly even more for smooth clean deep reps. It was very impressive.

I have not pulled 585 X 20.
My “recent” powerlifting PR’s in competition are:
606 squat
330 bench press
644 deadlift
While lifting in the 242 pound class. Raw.
A long long time ago, I pulled 600 X 10. No straps, weighing 275. Long time ago my friend.

From all my years of competitive powerlifting I thought my back should be a strong body part. Until the last 10 days it remained “soft and blurry” and I could not really flex it with any strength. Then one day in a posing session with my guys the boys all started screaming- “Dude!! WTF!” Your back is dry and your Christmas tree is popping!”
We all started laughing.
I said, “Well fuck- 30 years of pulling 600 for reps is finally paying dividends.” Now if I can just flex my lats maybe I can look respectable on stage.

My diet was strict and very repetitive but brother I was eating so much food, it was not bad at all. As soon as I was the least bit hungry, my little timer went off and it was time to eat again.

Rambone! We left the whole eggs in the entire 14 weeks. They never left.
I never did any cardio. Zero. At 60 years old it’s easy for me to lose weight and even easier for me to lose muscle. I tried really hard not to lose any muscle- I didn’t have any extra muscle to lose!
Started prep at 238-240 pounds. Weighed in at the contest at 212.4.
While I did no cardio, I did lots of supersets, giants sets, fast pace training. Hours of practice posing and did many high volume body part workouts. I trained abs 4-5 days per weeks at the end.
And brother I just stumbled across a combination of PEDs that really had my BMR cranked up.
Very minimal night sweats but my base metabolic rate was flying.

King it’s funny… I was always eating so much food no real cravings ever showed up.
I “loaded” on a Fatburger and fries, but it took me three hours to eat all of it. After the show, Sunday night, me and eleven friends went to Hells Kitchen, inside Harvey’s Casino at South Shore Lake Tahoe.
I had Beef Wellington, shrimp cocktail, a shot of Don Julio 1942 and cheesecake. Played a little blackjack and was in bed by midnight.
The 14 week diet was properly constructed so I was never really jonesing for much.

He cannot compare & cannot say anything derogatory or negative
as Tommy Blows his physique to Bits.

Yes sir! It’s pretty much a generic early 1990’s bodybuilding prep diet. Plenty of green beans too!
It wasn’t too expensive. Easy to prepare. I think I ate almost 50 pounds of steamed white rice during the 14 week diet. The rice cooker was on every morning, noon and early evening.
Probably ate close to 500 whole eggs. Always over easy, with a nice shot of salsa.

Hi GR. I had my panels run 2X during my prep. Amazingly they were always unremarkable. Free serum testosterone was 1770 one time. That’s crazy high for a 60 year old man but not dangerous.
Everything else looked good.
Strangely I felt great the entire time. It was so weird.
I’ll sit down with my co-conspirators this week and talk about another show. Even though I feel good- I know the window is rapidly closing on competitive bodybuilding.

I dont believe cardio is that efficient in fat loss, sure its good for your heart and lungs but the effort in compared to cals burned isnt worth the time
You can spend an hour on a bike and burn 300 cals, may as well watch TV and not eat 300 cals

That`s a damn good point.....I`ve been looking into how Arnold and those cats ate and trained and never did cardio but still looked great.
Mostly,meat,whole eggs,cottage cheese,fish,chicken,heavy cream, etc. with very little complex carbs.
I`ve always done waaay too much cardio just to ensure I was in condition but I think I sacrificed a lot of muscle.
In this show, the weight class is higher so I can come in much bigger.......at least 10-15 pounds heavier best case scenario of course I`m gonna` go in at the weight I look best at......fuck the scale.

At my competition they had a company back stage that applied your final stage sheen. They called the product “muscle juice.” It was a very nice sheen I suppose. :)

Actually it's the accumulation of regular cardio than burns fat over a period of time. Sit on your bum all day in an office & you'll get a fat bum, work iěn construction or even as a waitress on your feet all day & have a nice bum. It's the day in day out activity that works.

I despise normal cardio like bikes and treadmills, but love going for our daily walks with the dog for an hour.
Winter time I use the indoor crap though.
I dont do it for fat-loss, but for a stronger heart as I age. But like JTR mentioned, I think it does help a bit with a fast(er) metabolism and maybe some fat-loss over time.

I actually have no issues with conventional cardio, threadmill, stair master, spinning bike. We just agreed that it so easy to burn away muscle instead of fat that we would not add cardio unless I stopped tightening.
Here’s what most likely lead to the fat loss and retention of most muscle…
-my prep was 14 weeks. That’s 98 days. In those 98 days I took three days off. Three.
-I trained legs 2X weekly until the show was 2 weeks away.
-I used clenbuterol and Bronkaid.
-I took my oral PED’s throughout the day.
-I trained outside in the heat frequently.
-ate every 3 hours. 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm.
*no I am not employed. I have 24/7 access to two different gyms. Those things helped.
I think the totality of that really boosted my BMR.

It always comes back to calories in/calories out (assuming drugs not involved).

As a former competitive bike racer, I still had to diet to get lean for racing every year. You can't burn enough calories to compensate for a bad diet- without overtraining and getting worse.
20 min cardio 3 x a week has been proven to be all you really need to maintain aerobic fitness. Diet is king for getting lean.

Rambone! We left the whole eggs in the entire 14 weeks. They never left.
I never did any cardio. Zero. At 60 years old it’s easy for me to lose weight and even easier for me to lose muscle. I tried really hard not to lose any muscle- I didn’t have any extra muscle to lose!
Started prep at 238-240 pounds. Weighed in at the contest at 212.4.
While I did no cardio, I did lots of supersets, giants sets, fast pace training. Hours of practice posing and did many high volume body part workouts. I trained abs 4-5 days per weeks at the end.
And brother I just stumbled across a combination of PEDs that really had my BMR cranked up.
Very minimal night sweats but my base metabolic rate was flying.

500lbs x 20 deadlift !! That's the one that gets me as my deadlift is my least
Strongest lift out of the 3 powerlifts , maybe 5/7x500lbs at 220lbs at my best.

A gang of friends came up to Lake Tahoe to enjoy the grandeur and watch some bodybuilding.
After prejudging we were all hanging in the casino for a few minutes. One of my boys said, “Tom you have the tightest waistline in the class. Best abs on stage.” Another friend interrupted and said, “Fuck that! Look! The guy has cheek bones!” WTH!
It did make me laugh. I’m normally a little chubby in the face. Thanks Anadrol.
