Be honest. (Let's assume you meet the qualifications - no smokers, kids or pets)
Read the article :

The deal breaker for most will come down to "no wifi". While there is no gym, I am sure you could manage with bands, bodyweight, etc.. (let's face it, no one is going to be in training for the Mr. O)
This reminds me of a light house on a tiny island in the Baltics. I can not remember exactly where. But the stint there was 4 years, decent money and very nice retirement package, there were no tourists or duties like that. But the thing that turned me off was that you could not leave the island. (Unless extreme weather emergency) A helicopter dropped off supplies every 3-4 weeks. So the internet was not a big thing like now. But you had to give them a list of your needs and 3-4 weeks later, they would return with supplies whereas you gave them a new list.
How many here could self isolate like that and stay sane?

"Working an average of 85 hours per week from each person 52 weeks per year would be a little over $7 dollars per hour for each worker, that's less than the minimum wage in most States. Working 12 hours a day with no over time pay."

Would work if you could work together with a decent woman.
If you could pick ONE Getbig-member to work with there for two years, who would it be?
prime? bhank? matt? Squadfather? Wes?

Ok, let's say that it is not tourist based.
Could you do it without wifi? Or would you agree to a $40,000 cut in annual salary in exchange for high speed internet?

How to post on Getbig without wifi?
-
It’s 140k for TWO people.
70k a piece.
What’s so great about that?
-
Shit work for $70k/year, no thanks.

How to post on Getbig without wifi?
The mods have sat phones so that they are never in this position.
If you partake in this endeavor, you have good enough standing here that we could arrange one for you.
Although the whale ass you post might exceed the bandwidth capabilities of our equipment, so we'd have to run a field test.

They're trying to rip people off. Who in their right mind with head Chef experience (as they're looking for someone high end quality) AND Captain ticket with experience would be able to handle such a pathetic wage? 70k p.p. is an absolute disgrace. It would have to be a couple very down on their luck who happen to have experience in hospitality AND seafaring knowledge.
They won't find the right candidates easily, at all. You're basically doing an everything job for the owner to rake in millions per year while you are stuck out there on your own with no support, whatsoever; for rooms costing upwards of 500 per night?
Absolute fucking liberty. That article should be calling out these greedy owners rather than dressing it up as some sort of 'adventure'. It won't be much of an adventure when Mr + Mrs Van Housen in room/cottage number 4 are saying their lobster isn't up to scratch and you're the only fucker in that kitchen stressed out to fuck 14 hours a day.

I assumed it was 140K each.

1st choice would be Booty for obvious reasons.
Then:
I'd work w/ Fortress. We could crank up the heaviest metal.
Train powerlifting style, and talk shite about shit-skin muzzies and other global nonsense.
And watch some "DVD's"...
-
Living accomodations and food provided.
You'd save a lot of money.
-
I assumed it was 140K each.
“The joint role pays $140,000 a year and starts in April – but yes, there are just a few catches.”

Well it doesn't say each, but then again doesn't exactly say to split.

True. Who knows. I could be wrong.
Would not do it for 140k anyway.

I could manage that easily.
I've lived in a cabin in the mountains for 5 months with no internet or phone service.
I prefer to be alone or maybe one other person who was cool and preferably has a snatch.
Not enough money for me, but i'm sure there are people out there who would do that.
-
Hanky couldn`t do it.....he can only stand for 30 minutes or so.

What about a scenario like the basis of The Shining movie? Months long position as caretaker of a ski lodge that was closed. Nothing to do but stay inside since the weather pretty much cancelled any outdoor activities.
So you would have living space, well stocked with food and drinks (water, liquor, etc..) But no internet, no possible outdoor activities, no gym. (yes while a lodge may have a fitness center, let's just say in this case it doesn't - but you could devise your own with what was on hand)
-
Getbiggers would not want to take such a drastic pay cut. And I don't see any dock to park their yachts.

I could manage that for a while, just depends for how long.
If i had some form of entertainment, even just a library of books or something, i could make it several months no problem.
I don't workout seriously anymore, but back when i did i think that would be a deal breaker not to have a gym or at least some way to exercise.

You could do this or you’re convinced you can do it easily? 5 months is 20% of 24 months so you’re kind of going out on a limb saying you could do 24 months easily.
How much were you paid when you lived in the mountains for 5 months?
-
I could do it, easily. Not for that kind of $$$ though.

How much would you need to do this easily?
And what part is easy? 2 years on an isolated island? Or working 80+ hours a week in the hospitality industry?
-
Yeah they want a couple to apply (which makes sense) and pay 140k in total.
Pay no rent and I assume food/drink would also be included as they are cooking meals for people.
US140k in America probably buys a house outright in some states?
-
140k in the bank all expenses paid
Thats a good job offer.

Two years is nothing if the pay is right. It's not in this case, but if I was half my age it might be....of course you'd be dealing with that version of me also, haha.
A real chef can make more than 70k almost anywhere. Hell people who run food programs for nursing homes make that and the food is terrible.

Yes, in very small towns or more rural areas.
Not in cities.

If it had high speed internet and cable so I could stream movies I am pretty sure I could do it. Reading the article -as is- it is the tourists/roomers that would bother me the most. If it was just by myself or one other and no visitors, yeah I could do that. Maybe even if it was just open to tourists like 10-5pm or something.

I've done things like this before, only not as luxurious. No awesome, well-stocked kitchen, for example. I've spent quite a bit of time working alone (as well as fairly remote - with a few others in country) with no internet, no hot water, sometimes no bed for a few months. I enjoy it, but when you're doing it as part of a stressful job, it can definitely take it's toll physically and mentally.
Having no internet for more than a few weeks is shit - even for someone who likes reading. The first scenario sounds like hell, though. I would not be able to host people and 'serve them'. That would legit cause a 'here's Johnny' scenario.
-
I ought to be a headhunter. I found the perfect candidate.

I think you'd get to keep 90k after taxes?

There's no way to be sure, but i think i could manage if i really wanted to.
When i lived in the mountains i was having a moment to find myself in my late 30's. Had quit my job and lived in a cabin my grandfather built in the 30's. I felt like my life was getting out of control after traveling all of the world for 7 years due to work.
Best thing i ever did, being a recluse for 5 months changed my life.
I can go months with zero human contact and be perfectly content.

Good take. And good for you taking time to reconnect to yourself.
There’s no doubt that people possess the ability to do this. The internet (in terms of being available to everyone) is 25 years old? Smart phones are 15 years old? Many of us have lived without these creature comforts and could again it would just be a learning process.
-
I could quite easily do that - the having to cook & deal with potential entitled arseholes is the deal breaker.

I don’t think the isolation is the hard part, it’s dealing with the guests that makes it difficult.

I think the same. It would be easier without the daily asshats coming over.
