Starting one today for a week cause I’m bored and need to drop some weight that I put on over thanksgiving and Christmas. I usually do a protein shake and fruit diet for a couple weeks to drop a good amount and then ease real food back in but I’m feeling like shakes only for 7 days. Just curious if anyone has done this and what their weight loss results were? I’m used to not eating much and severe diets so not worried about it just wanted to see if anyone else has done it? Also I won’t put it back on cause I’m not gonna eat much when I start eating again next Sunday. I will ease 1 meal a day back in for another week or two and go from there.

Ever try an orange roughy fast? I heard it’s dripping with health benefits
-
Never did that, but if I was your body type - the kind of person who has size and a lot of muscle, I'd do carnivore.
One, I like the food, and two, never seen it not "work" for those who tried.

My ex did it for quite a while when she started morphing into a bit of a blobby cunt. She had great results, though. Lost all of the weight but I don't think it was that healthy, if I remember correctly. Her hair started falling out a little towards the end. It was one of those meal replacement programs with supposedly nutritious shakes, but she obviously wasn't getting all the nutrients she needed.
-
why not eat eat normal low calorie meals instead ? salad with eggs etc...fruit, oatmeal, veggies...real food that are only a few calories and do fasting with 1st meal at noon etc..

“Blobby cunt” hahaha
Possibly thyroid issues from taking in too few calories

I'm doing a similar thing coincidentally. Maybe not as extreme, but a bit of a food cut.
I tend to eat a lot this time a year and put on like 10 lbs. And each year, I sort of get tired of eating and feeling the bloat.
Its nothing that I plan or think about, but it just happens. (Stuck inside, winter, work from home, not much to do, etc).
After a couple days, gut basically goes away. (Temp bloat). Now I'll cut like 5 more lbs.
But I just replace a few meals with a shake.
Normal shake is a scoop of whey, an egg, and a half cup of oats w/ some milk.
I like to have a bit of all macros in it (pro, carbs, fat).
If I use 2 of those in the place of 2 meals, I easily drop some pounds.
The other 2 meals are also very small (like a chicken and salad wrap for lunch, small meal for dinner).
(Whatever wife cooks).
Yogurt and an apple for snack at night...

Honestly I just get sick of eating this time of year and do something extreme to get the ball rolling. I like to see a quick 10+ lb drop to keep me motivated. Then I will eat 1 meal a day and 3-4 shakes a day for another couple weeks then just go back to keto for 6-8 months then slowly fade back into more food come Nov-Jan. I like to sit around 220-30. But right now sitting at 247 and I did hit a high of 253. I enjoy the size and strength that goes with it but my body doesn’t like the feel and I truly hate the puffy face look.

Yeah I put on around 23 lbs at my peak about a week ago over Nov-Jan but dropped 6 since then. Just looking for a quick drop and then slow it down some.

Ah, I wonder if that was what caused it. She did end up on thyroid meds eventually.

This type of thing was in vogue about 25 years ago, I remember a bunch of guys from the old T-mag site. Guys were basically taking in 3-5 shakes a day, plus some fish oil, fiber supplements, and multi-vitamins. Training moderate volume and steady state aerobics. They all seemed to lose 15-20lbs and peter out by a little before the month closed.
The other version that is very popular is PSMFing - https://www.ketoshop.com/blogs/news/psmf-protein-sparing-modified-fast . You could go all shake with that too, I suppose.

This sounds about right, I’m living like I’m in 1998 anyways.

It's just calorie restriction.
Would rather eat steak, eggs, bacon, boar, fish, etc.....

Yes, I got the idea from hazbin.
Hazbin posted about how he had such a poor appetite for one show’s prep and so he dieted on nothing but shakes and a solid meal at night. He noticed no difference from previous show preps. I’m a tiny tit compared to him but my results were similar to his: no difference noted.
-
why wouldn't you just do a keto? or a carnivore

Haven’t ever tried this but I am interested to see not just your results but also your hunger during this.If you feel full for a few hours after each shake there may not be much hunger.Keep us informed buddy

Do raw milk instead, at least it's loaded with nutrients, has a good balance of healthy fats, carbs and protein. Isn't loaded with artificial sweeteners which wreck your gut like protein powders do. Way better strategy in my opinion.
-
Ask Bhanky because he often has the shakes.
-
I recall a guy back in the 90s used 6 met-rx sachets a day to prep for a show
Really obese guy I knew just drank Met-rx for a year, shed about 12 stone.

Ok so far so good I’ve had 4 shakes at 25grams each and 160 calories each. I’ve walked 10 miles but no lifting today. Feeling pretty good. Will have another at 7 and possibly 10 if I’m awake.

how do you get micronutrients?
For this week I will not be getting them. This is just say thru next Saturday. Then I will add in 1 meal midday with 4 shakes for a few weeks.

Dont know if you said it yet, but what powder are you using big rob?

I’m using rtd muscle milk zero sugar. Chocolate it’s delicious. If I was using powder I usually use isopure zero carb.

Never, but I drink raw unpasturized milk daily and it's amazing, again loaded with nutrients, healthy fats, good quality protein. And it's so good that where I buy it from they have shipments every Monday and Thurs and within hours it'd sold out, they even limit it to two gallons per household. I really wish I had this growing up, but the state I grew up in it's illegal to sell raw milk, and I didn't grow up on a farm. It's fucking incredible.

My dad drinks a gallon of raw milk a day and he is 72. Says it helps with all his ailments.

You would probably poop green foul smelling sludge every few hours on a milk only diet. Not pleasant.
-
when I was competing weighing 230-240 I lived primarily on protein powder. I would force myself to eat chicken and rice once a day, and 7-8 protein shakes each day
ya, but people always tell me (as they will soon in this post) that protein is useless and doesn't work. then they ask me how I get so big. I tell them 5 lbs. of protein powder a week, and again they reply that your body can't use all that protein. ???
Couple choice quotes from the man himself. Really changed my perspective on dieting, idk why so many bodybuilders push the “Whole Foods are best!!!” angle

Yeah muscle milk was always delish

I drink 2 glasses a day pre and post workout, with your experiment you might want to add a bit of it to your shakes, obviously it higher in calories, but at least you'll get some nutrients in your system..bioavailable nutrients.

If you're talking about Pasturized milk then yes, raw milk no.

If we're talking unflavored whey isolate then go for it, other than that protein powder is loaded with artificial flavoring, food dyes, and other bullshit additives like thickening agents that fuck up your gut biome. If you want to go that route, raw milk, unflavored whey isolate, and maybe a banana for flavoring, even a bit of raw cacao powder for further flavoring.

In terms of general health and feeling one’s best, agreed. No argument here. But when it comes to one’s physique, im not so sure it matters.
I could believe that *maybe* a body maintained on a healthier, optimally balanced diet responds a bit better and reduced inflammation leads to thinner skin via reduced water retention, etc but there have been so many legendary physiques built on one-dimensional diets ( eg: 90% tuna/chicken breast + rice) that I’m inclined to believe it doesn’t make a difference to one’s physique.

Gut health is everything my friend, 90% of all diseases, cancers, autoimmune diseases, ailments start in the gut. What you listed above are real whole foods, why didn't bodybuilders in the 70s ever complain about digestive issues?? They all ate real nutritious foods, primarily steak, eggs, quarts of milk, heavy cream. Bodybuilders today literally all complain about bloating, digestion issues, because all they eat is processed foods, supplements loaded with artificial flavoring, food dyes, various other bullshit. Not everyone wants to follow a carnivore diet like myself and that's fine, but if people in general just stuck to 1 ingredient foods only, they'll be way better off health wise.

I've done the Slim Fast routine, one shake for breakfast, one for lunch and a sensible meal with amazing results.

I did that back in the day.....almost. Only, it wasn't a fast to lose weight.
Back in my college years, I was so busy but so determined to put on size that I only had one actual solid meal. Every other meal was either a commercial weight-gainer shake or a homemade one (consisting of milk and eggs).

Many moons ago, there was a diet going around of one scoop Whey ISO and one tablespoon all natural PNB every 2 hours.
People were getting really tight and shredded off it, but after the third or fourth week, they were getting sick. Like total exhaustion and all over unhealthy feeling. But the before and after photos they were posting showed the results spoke for themselves. Some people tried the two week on, two week off method and got results but not as dramatic as those that stuck with it for 3-4 weeks.
Isn't Mike Arville (?) - the mall guy - a big believer on relying on protein shakes for nearly all his meals?

That's a ketogenic diet, poorly formulated I might add, peanut butter is a terrible choice for a fat source, high in omega 6, a better strategy would be instead of the peanut butter add in some raw Pasture raised eggs in your shakes, along with a little heavy cream.
-
Mike is known as the Hunter Labrada of the Wellington Mall. Nothing but rice krispy shakes and 20,000 steps

I've done the Slim Fast routine, one shake for breakfast, one for lunch and a sensible meal with amazing results.
It`s worked wonders for you! :D
-
I trained with this 21 year old beast back in the day.....drank 7 shakes a day for the most part, was on gear and made shit for progress.
I gave him the old speech that protein supplements were just that,a tool to supplement your regular diet.
He did this for months though.....I think a few weeks to drop weight is a great plan, then I`d reintroduce food.
Just my thoughts as I have never tried it but have thought about and I plan on doing it to see just what happens.
Go for it Rob....shake rattle and roll then shake some more my brother!
-
I feel confortable doing 16 hour fasting. Just skip breakfast or dinner.
-
So day 1 went well with 6 shakes at 960 calories.
Weighed in day 1 naked at 7 am after crap and piss and was 247.4
Weighed in this morning at 7 am after crap and piss naked at 244.2
Had a shake at 7am,1030am and 130 pm so far today. Feeling pretty good. Walked 10 miles yesterday and did 10 today already.
Thanks for all the input everyone. I will add in one meal starting next Sunday with shakes.

Boom, that was the name they stuck with, I couldn't remember it. It goes something like MRP Diet - Fat Fast - Velocity in order of the T-Mag protein shake diets. Fat Fast was an extremely low calorie ketogenic one that was shakes, flax seed oil, and occasionally a bit of cheese or bacon to stifle urges. I seem to remember Bruce Kneller was behind it.

Worked REALLY well back then for anyone who used it.....
I thought it was Chris Shugart who invented it using Biotest protein with TC helping him to push it
-
Yeah Shugart's first version was the MRP Diet, then Brock Strasser (pen name for Kneller mainly) made it more keto and shake based with the Fat Fast, then Shugart cleaned up everything to make the velocity version.

Or go back 50 plus years and do the 36 eggs a day diet that Don Howorth did.
1 quart of milk
1 quart of cream
36 eggs
-
I wouldn't be satiated at all without real food. Protein and fats. Liquid calories don't help me diet. When I have a shake because too busy to eat I'm hungy again 45 minutes later.
-
Or go back 50 plus years and do the 36 eggs a day diet that Don Howorth did.
1 quart of milk
1 quart of cream
36 eggs
My shakes consist(ed) of:
milk
cream
1 egg
peanut butter
protein powder
MCT oil (squirt)
Around 1,000cals, 50g protein, 80g fat, 30g carbs, 22g sugar and delicious too.
Oh and I'd have a bit of oats with every sip.

You will drop an easy 10 pounds in a week.
And feel like shit after 10-14 days.
Mix in a few refeed if you plan on doing this long term.

I usually have a shake for mid afternoon meal.
1 tbls olive oil
4 tbls heavy cream or halfnhalf
1 tbls all natural peanut butter
3 raw whole eggs
1 tbls unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp Stevia
