Ok, as noted on some current and past threads quite a few of our members are using things to help them sleep. Either RX or OTC. I have never had that problem so just curious as to why some of you may be suffering from insomnia. Is it due to other RX side effects keeping you awake, pain issues, job/family stress, or just having an unbreakable night owl lifestyle? What have you tried that worked or didn't work?
I really have no issues falling asleep and often take an hour nap most days of the week. I do have Ambien here, but that is what I bought overseas many years ago and only use it for when I am doing a travel gig and need to sleep on the plane. I bought 100 tabs in 2009 (I believe) for $12 and still have about 40 left. I only use 1/2 tab each time.
I have read that most sleep aids OTC often leave you dragging the next day.

Never tried Ambien, Lunesta or Sonata
If i really really need to sleep and i'm thinking too much tossin' and turnin' in bed unable to sleep, i'd use Propavane/Poopervane

Do you worry too much?
Yes,about everything, mostly about things I have no control over anyway, but it`s just part and parcel with anxiety disorders.......comes with the territory.

Back in 2020 a neighbor gave me a box full of bars of this. I had no use for it and gave it to my buddy that owns a couple of bars here. Some of his bartenders are pot heads. He said that almost all of them said it wired them up too much to sleep. Weird I would think. But I have seen THC products that claim they are for focus and concentration. I always thought pot mellowed you out. Never used it myself.

Is insomnia a real thing? I don’t believe it is. If you get up early (4:30 - 5:00), physically exert yourself somewhat during the day, and repeat daily, you will sleep just fine. I find that people who complain of “insomnia” have irregular sleep schedules, take naps during the day, and/or otherwise have bad habits that are not conducive to getting a good night’s sleep. Occasionally you may wake up a night due to some issue that is causing anxiety, like the SEC finally looking into some of your shadier trades, but that should be the exception.
-
never needed meds to sleep but i never eat 3 hours before sleeping & i am very active during the day.
Just basics
-
another thing i have found is do not do cardio too late in the evenings. Train if you can early mornings or mid afternoons.
-
Lexotan but the next day i feel hangover. Been smoking some indica strains before bed. From a small vase in the balcony ;D.
-
I have had lots of trouble falling asleep (even as a kid) ... I'd stare out my window and Would feel comforted if someone else was up/ bedroom light was on) as an adult it got worse (anxiety / worrying about things like finances etc) then full panic mode as the sun came up and I have to go to work / haven't slept yet ... .. I take a handful of sleep meds every night (6 melatonin/6 Benadryl / Seroquel/ Gabapentin and 6 of these Costco blue sleeping pills) it really sucks!
-

Yes. Training close to bed time is a bad idea. Specially legs.
-
I only take coffee in the morning also.

your body secretes chemicals that are bad for sleeping. a complicated thing which i can´t explain as i am not a Doctor.
i would guess adrenaline is the negative one

if I cut back .... it doesn't work (I have tried higher doses And lower.... this is what works .... but even then not all the time!)

What meds do you take for the anxiety?
Sertraline?
Duloxetine?
Nothing, though I still have Ambien, but never take it.
I have Diazapam but use it sparingly......I guess I`m just used to lack of sleep.
Lately,I have been catching a catnap during some boring movie for an hour or so,that helps out a bit.
I stopped all anti-depressants also.......fuck them, all I regularly take is a statin which I want to stop but my doc advised me not to.
-
For real? 1/2 knocks me out.
Yeah, they are generic but the real deal doesn`t do anything for me either.
I`m certainly not bragging by any stretch of the imagination, but in my drug using days I had a high tolerance for pills. ???

Have you tried a no-thc CBD tincture?
-
My sleep is good with the mask I wear.
If my sleep pattern gets disrupted I will take some gaba in the middle of the night.
I had insomnia in college because my life was like that of a frat guy at that time.
I’d get more stressed as a young guy because I was a dumbass kid.
-
Have you tried a no-thc CBD tincture?
No,I did try some gummies not that long ago......never again.......paranoia city !!
You advised me in the past what to do,but my dumb ass disregarded it......I`m the worlds biggest, and best looking procrastinator. ;)
-
I was a breach birth baby and my mother used to tell me I came out feet first and haven`t stopped running since.
She always asked me why I was up and out so early, and would ask...."Do you think you`re gonna` miss something" ?
-
Have you tried Provasik?
-
I don't take anything, I just meditate and sleep easily.
-
if I cut back .... it doesn't work (I have tried higher doses And lower.... this is what works .... but even then not all the time!)
I'd imagine tren doesn't help.

Mike, that's a serious mix. You need to taper off a lot of that. Those Kirkland sleeping pills (doxylamine) are a strong anticholinergic and sedating antihistamine—as is diphenhydramine. You're really risking CNS depression taking both of them together at a high dose, combined with the other drugs you're on. There's some research documenting a possible link between those first-generation antihistamines and dementia in people who take them long-term, too.
If you're only taking the antipsychotic for insomnia alone, you should fuck that off, along with one of the antihistamines. You're dependent on them right now, so it will feel impossible to sleep without them for a while, but I'd imagine a doctor would be able to give you a good, single alternative, and possibly some cognitive behavioral therapy to deal with the anxiety.

If I didn't have to get up for work I would try tapering down / eliminating some of the pills (Seroquel is just for sleep) but I can't afford to be up all night and try to go work a 10-12 hour shift .... I have been taking this combination for years now .... and no the Tren isn't helping matters!
-
Mirtazapin has been all the rage for a few years now. It's an antidepressant originally. It can work very well but the negative is next day tiredness and often crazy appetite (which could be a positive side for some). The positives are that it's not dangerous or habituating. I would recommend just 7.5mg to start, half a tablet of the weakest strength (at least here). In comparison I have 45mg tablets for depression.
Dianabol and Anadrol can help sleep too, believe it or not. Dianabol might be downright euphoric as you lay down to sleep.
-
Yeah, they did have THC in them.
Ok fool, try the CBD route.
All I know is I had a buddy who slept 2-3 hours a night try it at my suggestion.
Saw him a few months later and he said it changed his life literally.

That's insane Mike.
Do you take a bunch of pre-workout supplements?
25mg of diphenhydramine will knock me out for 8+ hours and give me a hangover.
I've learned to meditate and do breathing exercises before bed.
I also don't drink any caffeine after 3pm.
Worst case scenario, typically when i'm traveling for work and staying in a new bed, i take 0.5mg of Alprazolam, which knocks me out and has cleared my system by the morning, so no hangover.
Also, 4-6g's of red vein kratom will knock you out no problem.
Kratom for sleep is amazing.

That's a lot of sleep meds my dude.
I'm assuming you suffer from anxiety.
I did for years but learned to let shit go.
As Keto Bro said, 5mg of THC and maybe even CBD will make you sleep like a baby.
I don't take gummies often due to drug testing, but a gummy and a pound session with my slut GF gives me then best sleep of my life.
I'll pray for you.

Gummies may have had THC....CBD alone doesn't cause paranoia.
So why does the THC cause paranoia and hyper activity? I thought it mellowed people out. All those bar tenders couldn’t handle that chocolate and they were big pot heads. They also reported they didn’t get the munchies but were obscenely thirsty for a few hours. Literally drinking water nonstop.

How many times do you need to pee during the night?

It's the dose. Smoking a lot will cause "paranoia" too. Actually I think the paranoia is what weed does, it's part of the effect, not a side effect really, but people interpret it differently. Some feel they dwell on negative stuff but others feel it just stimulates philosophical thought. Weed can make me feel relaxed and happy but at the same time there is always an undercurrent of anxiety present. But you can deal with it, just observe it in a mindfulness sort of way.
It's also well know the THC paranoia, which is part and parcel of its effects, is modulated by the other constituents of the plant, like CBD. Some products might even have pure synthetic THC added. Some have described the effect of pure THC as if you went to a funeral, very unpleasant.
A very common reason for stopping or pausing weed is "uncomfortable or unwanted thoughts," your perception of your life problems is enhanced. That's why some say weed isn't always an escape - your problems might seem bigger in fact.
Matt said he had a hellish experience and would rather take heroin if he had to choose. But I sure he could negotiate the cannabis effect by starting with a very low dose, he could still enjoy it.
It's also interesting that anti-anxuety meds like benzos almost completely abolishes any negative mental effects BUT also abolishes the positive high too. My theory is that the paranoia IS the principal effect.

Waking up for any reason, will definitely effect the quality of your sleep, taking you out of REM sleep, so you have to start the sleep cycle all over again. I never used Marijuana in my life, up until 3 years ago, I've been hearing about its benefits from listening to Rogan all these years, when I decided to try it, it was an absolute game changer, I always had to wake up to piss once through out the night, which I knew was breaking up my sleep, since using Marijuana prior to bed, I literally sleep through the night. I highly recommend it.

Though experts say weed tottally fucks up your sleep architecture, doesn't in fact improve sleep other than allowing some type of sleep. The fact that many or most say weed eliminates dreaming sounds worrying to me. When some stop they describe rebound "epic dreams" that can be terrifying.

I don't believe what "experts" say, same applies to studies regarding training, like there's no difference in fat loss from fasted cardio vs performing it in a fed state, I've done both and can say I get significantly leaner from doing fasted cardio. Take a 5mg gummy, actually break it in half, 2.5mg prior to bed, with some magnesium you'll be in a coma bro, you'll wake up rested and recovered.do you smoke it? or eat hash

Curious.
Ambien made me trip my ass off. I'd take one and be up late -- very late! -- mumbling nonsense about Scooby Doo farting about on my PC, half-convinced that I could reach into my monitor and manipulate windows and icons through the screen.
I've never used anything illegal apart from "bio-identical hormones," but the Ambien had to be on a par with some kind of hallucinogen. I told my doctor that fun was fun and all, but I had to get off that shit before I did something really stupid.

I did it and liked it, but just didn't feel like shelling out for the threonate/apigenin each month, so switched to mag glycinate, and still use theanine from micro ingredients.

Same here. Was getting my mag glycinate from Costco and tried without the apigenin or theanine. My sleep quality got worse, so I actually just ordered threonate again today just to try it again. I think one should cycling their magnesium sources to not burn out their receptors and to confuse the brain and body

Might be a good idea, because I'm now getting diminishing returns, especailly on the theanine - not getting the cool dreams anymore.

The purpose of a sleep aid is to assist in sleeping. I can take an ambien and get lots of shit done, but that’s not using it right.
Next time, go to bed right away after taking it.

I don't doubt that weed makes you "rested and recovered." There is a million testimonials that say the same so it's clearly "true." But there's a millions of testimonials saying drinking wine at night does the same. The question is what it does to sleep architecture, what it does to the length of sleep stages. Both alcohol and weed have been stdied quite a lot and it's not just positive, often outright negative. There's this Dr named Sanjay Gupta, he does documentaries and does ccommentary for CNN, I guess he's a liberal lol. But he said that 10 years ago he did a documentary about weed and from his research he thought weed had very little going for it as far as legitimate uses. Now he did a sort of follow up documentary and now he is of the opinion that it has a number of legitimate uses, one being as as a "sleeping drug" for the elderly. He is so positive of the positive uses that he would actually recommend it for sleep to his elderly parents. I think that's a good measure of how you view certain substances, if you'd be comfortable giving it to someone you really care about. At the same time there's all this data on how it's not as good as "normal" sleep. Better than Ambien maybe for example but still with some negatives.
Have you noticed an effect on dreaming (lack of)? It's very commonly reported by weed lovers. To me that sounds like it could bad. My brother reports it and he's been smoking since 13, 45 now. He says the dreams he has after taking a break are very scary though it normalises after a while. When using heavily he says it will eventually cause negative, self critical thoughts. His son who is 19 told me the same the other day.
I almost only smoke late at night, like when I get home from lifting at midnight. Very nice. A few heavy hits in the morning or early in the day can be very uncomfortable, I get the paranoiac thoughts, don't want to go out in public, a sort of agoraphobia in mass gatherings and so on. A feeling of drowning, anxiety, I don't know how else to describe it.
I bought the Magnesium L-Threonate and also gave 3 nights worth to my mom. Neither of us could say it did anything noticeable, at least not acutely/immediately. She can get zopiclone to use for a few days a month only, she has tried amitriptyline and now is trialing the mirtazapine. The zopiclone will always work to put her to sleep but she's taken a few falls the last few years, once damaging her teeth falling due to a hole in the concrete. Falls is a well known side effect of the z-drugs and benzos. She also claims just a quarter of a 5mg pill is enough to help sleep. The most surprising positive side effect from the amitriptyline, aside from promoting sleep is her 15 year problem of productive cough disappearing overnight, but u fortunately it only lasted 3 months. I had suggested she ask her doc about it, to use for cough, after reading about uncommon treatments, and he scripted her immediately and it was like a miracle, at first. Mirtazapine works to a degree for sleep but she doesn't like how it makes her hungry for sweets (a common side effect).
Next I'll have her try glycine, perhaps theanine too, and maybe GABA. She's against weed as it's illegal and doesn't want anything that might make her feel "high." I've never seen "gummies" her nor any weed infused pastries etc. Anyone have an opinion on these HHC, or O-HHC or Delta9 or whatever they're called. I think bhank said the delta9 was pretty much like regular weed lol.

Seems like all sleep meds fad in efficacy over time. Enjoying my natural sleep again.

My dreams are absolutely epic to be honest, I'm all about optimization, living my best life, having the best quality of life. I've seen nothing but improvement since I've started Marijuana for sleep, I never use it any other time of the day, I treat it like a PED. I don't know many adults that get 8 hours of sleep, most adults I know get like 5-6. The magnesium you got to use is magnesium bisglycinate. And I track my sleep, pic below.

Alright, sounds good. Huberman recommends bisglycinate or threonate for sleep but I think he favored threonate. But it's expensive so many go with the glycinate. I've used it too. Some say malate is best, others favor taurinate.

I believe magnesium bisglycinate has the best absorption of them all.

Maybe. But the main selling point for threonate is that it's the only one shown to cross the blood-brain barrier, hence being the best for sleep, theoretically.
Then there's stuff like this, with supposedly even better absorption:
https://nootropicsdepot.com/micromag-capsules-optimized-magnesium/
Threonate has claims like this:
"Magtein is the only magnesium compound that has been shown to effectively raise the brain's magnesium levels, which leads to enhanced learning abilities, improved working memory, and better short and long-term memory in both young and aged animals.*"

I have three nice drinks of Amarreta and 1800 silver tequila mixed together. Sleep like a baby.

Alcohol is terrible for sleep quality. I drink my 12 year old scotch before bed every night nonetheless

Never had that happen. But I only take it on planes. And a mild dose at that. Now that being said I know someone that drinks 3-4 martinis every single day and takes his ambien at 9pm and I have seen some wild ass posts from his FB account at time about midnight or so. So it is possible.

It's not just possible, it's especially likely when combined with alcohol. I've said before how they stopped giving hospital patients Ambien here due to bizarre next day behavior. Zopiclon is the substitute here, same z-drug class but not as many "incidents." Zopiclone can do it too though. My mother never drinks but once on vacation her girl friend wanted to split a single can of beer. She took her sleep med and next morning there was instant coffee spread out on the table in weird patterns lol. What scared me was once when I woke up in the morning I found unopened take-out on the kitchen table, zero memory of it, but I had been out driving zonked out, hardly safe. Ambien has been used as an excuse for rapes in court. The rapist claimed to remember nothing.
But if it works, no problem. I might even take it myself but I wouldn't stay up waiting for it to kick in. The sending of bizarre and embarrassing texts to everyone is a classic with these drugs, heard it many times. The bad part is that Ambien can be so pleasant to play with the computer or phone on. The visual field can sort of start floating and any anxiety disappears. Appetite can increase as well.
These are not benzos yet they are in a way because they target the same receptors. Because they are not "strictly" benzos they are much easier to get a script for (in some places). Kind of like Ritalin can be easier to get than the scary and much maligned "amphetamine."

Added this stuff (just to try) along w/ my 5 mg THC gummy.
Pretty vivid dreams and an easy 8 hours knocked out cold...
