Joaquin Phoenix ever pulled was making us believe he could act
Watched Napoleon and just started watching "Beau is Afraid" and it was the joker without make up in both movies

oof we disagree here
Joker is my all time favorite movie, although it may have more to do with relating to mental illness than his acting
-
You’re genetically incapable of having any sort of nice thing to say about anything to do with Napoleon.
-
I liked him in Gladiator

agree, I loved the Joker, thing is it seems so does he, hes now playing the joker in all his movies
-
Like many popular actors he just plays himself.

"Character Actors" who turn up on set unwashed and half asleep because they haven't slept for days "preparing" for their parts
Tosspots

You mean like John Wayne did?

Yes.
-
You mean like John Wayne did?
Precisely.
-
I loved Signs and The Village.
-
The one with Big Mel Gibson where he beats the alien with the bat is pretty good too.
-
DeNiro is the same in every movie.
He plays an Irishman just like a deer hunter.
-
I loved Signs and The Village.
Both really good flicks....."Signs" was great IMO..........the twist in "The Village" threw me for a loop.

I was thinking the same.

Joker is my all time favorite movie
Would put Heath Ledger's rendition of the joker against Joaquin's any day of the week.

Heath Ledgers CRUSHES Phoenix's, but I simply relate to the mental health issues of Joker the movie better, thats why its my all time fav
-
I really want to go see this movie. I typically hate watching a movie about foreign history and they speak English, and usually do so with an accent of whatever country they’re supposed to be in. I was planning on setting that aside since I have an affinity for Napoleon Bonaparte. Hope you’re wrong jeffy.

I agree. And as far as the movie goes, I wasn’t impressed with the Joker at all. Overrated.
-
I thought napolean was pretty good. I feel it was to much to condense into the time of the movie. It kept my interest. I would say it was def. Worth watching but i went in expectong a lot

I'm going to go ahead and agree with you 100%. I really want to see a good Napoleon movie but I just don't like this guy.
-

Guy Cisternino
-
He was awesome in Avatar.
-
I thought that he did very well in 8MM with Nicolas Cage. That was the first movie that I had ever seen him in.

I trust your movie opinions over others

Agree.
Ledger had an awesome mix of evil and playful while coming across as a complete mess. Far more challenging to do what Ledger did vs playing a nut.

It wasnt that good
Historically inaccurate as well

Acting
“The craft”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA
It’s easier to be a decent thespian than it is to be a decent plumber.
The greatest trick Hollyweird ever pulled off was convincing millions acting is some kind of rare talent.
There are fewer individuals who can make a good hamburger than there are individuals who can act.
Everyone and his brother is a frickin’ actor.
-
He's not my cup of tea, either.
Check out this earlier Ridley Scott film about the same period.
-
DeNiro is the same in every movie.
He plays an Irishman just like a deer hunter.
Cape Fear...Taxi Driver.. Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Godfather.... After that... not so much.. but that's not to take away from some pretty good acting there.

This movie is way dumber than that. Despite taking place in France, everyone still speaks with a British accent EXCEPT Napoleon who speaks with an American accent! Only the russian character has a region appropriate accent.
-
He was in the joker, no?
-
I`ve got the DVD (DVD`S?) "Walk The Line" about Johnny Cash with Joaquin in it.........had it for over a year and still have yet to watch it.
Anyone know if its any good?
These days I live on Amazon Firestick............... .got over 500 or more DVD`s and need to sell the fuckers.
-
I loved Signs and The Village.
Yes. I like almost every movie he's been in.

Always thought it was trash. Contrived 'edgy' for the sake of being edgy. Kind of like Babylon is supposed to be some masterpiece yet is pure style over substance.
A good 'edgy' film with actual substance, imo, is Fight Club.

LOL. Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man. He turned up on set after no sleep for 3 days looking like crap to film that chair/torture thing and Laurence Olivier told him why not just go in normal and, 'act', or along them lines. :)
-

8mm - what a great film. One of those where need a shower after watching.

100% agree about both films. I walked out of Joker after he killed DeNiro and then gave this long monologue while nobody in the TV studio did anything. Nothing. Unfortunately I fear that people thought I was walking out because it was too violent. Not at all, I would have like to have seen him get his head blown off. Babylon was just a bogus farce. Oh but it had Eric Roberts lol.

Everyone and his brother is a frickin’ actor.
A lot of truth in this, films are a great art form but as a whole the specific profession of acting (some exceptions aside) does not require an incredible, hard-earned skill set or outlier level talent. You only have to look at first time child actors and singers who transition to a lead in movies and more than hold their own against lifetime thespians for proof of this
Having a knack for accents, mimicry and naturally expressive eyes can help, but a majority of compelling and successful acting boils down to innate charisma, a good look, and some luck
A great example is Steve McQueen who, despite receiving some classical training, used to actively strip away his lines as he knew he could rely on his own minimalist magnetism to draw audiences in

I assumed we were talking about mainstream movies and not porn. If you're talking porn, spot on. Acting... great acting... it's an art
