Joaquin Phoenix ever pulled was making us believe he could act

Watched Napoleon and just started watching "Beau is Afraid" and it was the joker without make up in both movies

I'm going to go ahead and agree with you 100%.  I really want to see a good Napoleon movie but I just don't like this guy.

I thought that he did very well in 8MM with Nicolas Cage. That was the first movie that I had ever seen him in.

Would put Heath Ledger's rendition of the joker against Joaquin's any day of the week.

"1"

Agree.

Ledger had an awesome mix of evil and playful while coming across as a complete mess.  Far more challenging to do what Ledger did vs playing a nut.

Acting

“The craft”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA

It’s easier to be a decent thespian than it is to be a decent plumber.

The greatest trick Hollyweird ever pulled off was convincing millions acting is some kind of rare talent.

There are fewer individuals who can make a good hamburger than there are individuals who can act.

Everyone and his brother is a frickin’ actor.

He's not my cup of tea, either.

Check out this earlier Ridley Scott film about the same period.

DeNiro is the same in every movie.

He plays an Irishman just like a deer hunter.

Cape Fear...Taxi Driver.. Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Godfather.... After that... not so much.. but that's not to take away from some pretty good acting there.

I really want to go see this movie. I typically hate watching a movie about foreign history and they speak English, and usually do so with an accent of whatever country they’re supposed to be in. I was planning on setting that aside since I have an affinity for Napoleon Bonaparte. Hope you’re wrong jeffy.
This movie is way dumber than that. Despite taking place in France, everyone still speaks with a British accent EXCEPT Napoleon who speaks with an American accent! Only the russian character has a region appropriate accent.

oof we disagree here
Joker is my all time favorite movie, although it may have more to do with relating to mental illness than his acting

Always thought it was trash. Contrived 'edgy' for the sake of being edgy. Kind of like Babylon is supposed to be some masterpiece yet is pure style over substance.

A good 'edgy' film with actual substance, imo, is Fight Club.

"Character Actors" who turn up on set unwashed and half asleep because they haven't slept for days "preparing" for their parts

Tosspots

LOL. Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man. He turned up on set after no sleep for 3 days looking like crap to film that chair/torture thing and Laurence Olivier told him why not just go in normal and, 'act', or along them lines. :)

100% agree about both films.  I walked out of Joker after he killed DeNiro and then gave this long monologue while nobody in the TV studio did anything.  Nothing.  Unfortunately I fear that people thought I was walking out because it was too violent.  Not at all, I would have like to have seen him get his head blown off.  Babylon was just a bogus farce.  Oh but it had Eric Roberts lol.

I was being sarcastic.  Eric Roberts pays to be in movies.

He would be a blast to hang out with, though.
