Title: Anybody ever use ButcherBox?

So I figured to try it out last month and didn’t know it was a subscription service. I’m normally good about setting an alert to remind me to cancel. I received a $200 charge in the middle of the night at 12:45AM yesterday. I was up at 4:30AM, saw the charge and then found out that there’s no way to cancel your order online. You can only cancel your subscription service, but this didn’t include the order being processed. Their customer service conveniently doesn’t open until 9:00AM. I called at 9:05AM to cancel and was given an excuse that it was already in the hands of the shipper. The shipping history shows that it didn’t ship out until 7:00PM. There’s no way a perishable product is going to sit with a shipper for that long. I plan on disputing the charge and enjoying some free, juicy meat (nh). Has this happened to any other Getbiggers? If not, do not order from ButcherBox.

The meat could have already been prepared for shipping and is waiting in cold storage until it's sent out at 7pm.

This was your fuck up bro. You need to suck it up and take that extra meat like a man. No charge backs.

I use the service routinely.

Their customer services is excellent - they give you replacements for anything if you don't like the quality (only happened with one product in years).  All the beef is grass fed, seafood all wild caught (salmon / shrimp)

So stop driving my cost up with them and own your mistake rambone and eat your food.

And, if you would have come to me first, you would have saved $50 and got two free lbs of ground beef and a pound of bacon free every order.

Take what you pay and divide by the lbs of meat you get.

It's usually quite expensive.

$169/11lbs is $15.36 a lb.
$169/8.5lbs is $19.88 a lb

Ridiculous.

But, it's not rip off if you want high quality food delivered to you and have the convenience of not going to the store.  Personal time saved has a value as well. All that factors in.  I go to Costco every other week, and never buy meat there, and rarely have to go to the supermarket.

Do you not believe there is a difference in quality and taste between wild caught and farmed seafood?

I got a bunch of grass-fed ground sirloin because it was good last time. The steaks were kind of tough. A few pounds of chicken breasts and a couple bags of gluten-free nuggets (nh) and a couple of packs of turkey bacon (nh again)

I have an amazing butcher shop a mile away from my house. I can't eat supermarket beef, chicken or pork anymore. The stuff sold there is bottom of the barrel crap. I got a gift certificate for Omaha steak. Their steaks are garbage on par with the super market stuff.

Even the hamburgers from the butcher is amazing. I know the guy and he told me a secret. All his meat for sale has to look perfect. Any imperfections he sees visually will be ground up  for hamburgers.  He told me the hamburgers he sells are the top of the shelf steaks. Beyond amazing hamburgers.

My father was a top chef. I'm spoiled. Down where you live in the nearby town of Robbinsville is a NYC transplant that opened a real Italian deli.  His bread sold there was off the charts fantastic. My next visit there the bread wasn't good. I asked what happened. He said the people there didn't like the good bread that had a crunch to it so he got garbage soft bread. I notice the same with something as simple as a pizza or a bagel. In North Jersey and NYC it takes some work to find a bad pizza place or a bagel. Even the hamburgers from the butcher is amazing. I know the guy and he told me a secret. All his meat for sale has to look perfect. Any imperfections he sees visually will be ground up  for hamburgers.  He told me the hamburgers he sells are the top of the shelf steaks. Beyond amazing hamburgers.

I am similarly lucky - there's a great butcher less than 100 yards from my place - plus they sell game like rabbit and pheasant and even have a smoker thing out the back

On one hand your father was a gourmet chef and you’ve got this amazing butcher living right next door on the other hand you can’t find a decent bagel or pizza anywhere.

What we’ve all learned is you really don’t have any experience with butcher box and you’ve used this thread to share life experiences about how much better your options are.
