I tripled 495 many years ago when taking some eq and benching 2-3 times a week. Now I can prob do 365 if I really tried but my shoulder would blow out and I’d prob never lift again. I hate benching. I used to like it then realized it did fuck all for my chest and made my tris and front delts much bigger.

I never got much out of barbell benches. But dumbbells are a different story. I train the entire upper body using dumbbells only.

True. When I went heavy it was all tris and shoulders but when I stayed 275 or less with good form my chest got a good workout but at that age I was all ego. No my chest is better than ever with just cable flyes. I will say incline db press was prob the most effective size movement I did.

A pec tear is typically the end result of benching too heavy for too long. I had a minor one one. Fortunately it wasn’t a full rupture but it put an end to loading up the bar. These days it’s sets of 12 with medium weight .😢
I’ve found the key to training smarter is the acceptance that no one gives a shit about my lifting.

But it can I create with volume also. I’ve found I get more mass by doing volume than with more weight. Now anyways.

i take every single work set til failure and very often past failure ie. drop sets
for example today on pulldowns i failed after 6 reps then i dropped wt and failed again after 4 and then dropped wt again and failed after 7 reps
so is this one set or 3 sets?

I also take most sets to failur I also take warm ups till failure. I did arms today and did a set of 200 curls to start and worked my way down to 8 reps. I’m big on rest pause lately.

Yeah I throw them in here and there. I was doing them for curls,laterals and calfs a month or two ago. I also do them as 75s occasionally and 60s etc…

I’ve done all those as well for many months straight and the only thing I really ever got was sore joints. I do think static holds and rest pause work well so I keep using those.
