I just heard this on the radio less than 10 minutes ago. This just hurts.

The very reason I started hitting the weights in the first place was due to Hogan. To me, he made having muscles cool. And I'd seen other wrestlers (on local TV) who were swole. But, the Hulkster was a different guy altogether.

He still has his beach store here in Orlando. I wonder if they'll turn it into a memorial.

And maybe, just maybe, WWE will quit with the revisionist history and acknowledge that they wouldn't have what they have today (especially with the Saturday Night's Main Event) without Hogan.

First it was the nice black guy from the Cosby show, then Ozzy and now Hogan.

Man, the passing of these folks remind us of the fragility of life.

I agree.  His was big but his physique was never that impressive compared to so many others in the ring.  Still he did popularize wrestling for the masses.  I had stopped paying attention to Hogan and wrestling more than 30 years ago but I recall he had some sort of reality TV show (Hogan Knows Best) and he reportedly had some very racist attitudes and beliefs.  I had stopped paying attention him long before that but it was all just another reason to forget about him.  ::)

Can’t say I will shed a tear.

Bubba, his ex-best friend, who let Hogan fuck his wife, has been reporting that Hogan was at death's door for almost 2 months. Hogan supposedly went in for a complicated spine surgery, and had a hard time waking up, and has been in a vegetative state for awhile.

When you're a kid, you're not concerned about someone being "lean" or having "some shape". You're impressed with BIG!! Plus, when you don't have cable, virtually the only way you see muscular physiques is by watching wrestling.

When I saw Hogan live in 1989 (right here in Orlando), my jaw DROPPED. I was at the barrier; so I got to see him up close.

First, my head kept craning up because of how tall he was. WOW!! I had never seen anyone that big, that muscular in my entire life!!

That sealed it for me. I was hooked!! Hogan was GIGANTIC!! I wanted to get big and strong!!

Yes, I became a bodybuilding fan. But, I would never have touched a muscle magazine, if I hadn't seen the Hulkster.

Hogan was one of those guys everyone would know who he is even if you didn't follow wrestling,  like arnold for bodybuilding,  michael Jackson in music,  Michael jordan in basketball.
I've just heard his last wrestling appearance he was booed out the building mostly for supporting trump, a shame it ended like that.

Yep. And now that they brought back Saturday Night's Main Event, WWE acted as if Hogan didn't even exist. HOGAN was the reason that show became a hit.

The rematch with Andre still hold the record for the largest rated wrestling show on primetime TV....>EVER!!

He came over to our table and introduced himself as “Terry.” He was friendly and really nice to us. Although obviously everyone in the restaurant knew who he was and stared, he didn’t seem at all bothered by the attention. Seemed like a good man and I hope he had a fulfilling life.

His instagram has been recycling old pics. Right before this operation that supposedly help kill him, he was on a multi-state, every day promo gig to promote the beer line and the wrestling venture. He came home tired from that, and went straight into surgery not taking much rest.

Say what you want about the guy, he was a hard worker.

I think he was drinking a lot beers too for many years too.

Lots of drugs too. Lots of pain pills.

I remembered the Juvi Juice, I remember decades past some saying he always had it on him. Renutrient was marketed towards bodybuilders to increase GH and sold as a supplement at regular supp stores.

Warrior claims that one of Hogan's catchphrases back in the day was "A day without smoking pot brother is like a day without sunshine".  He also blamed Hogan for turning guys in WCW onto a substance called "juvi juice" or "rejuvenation juice" that many got high and OD'd on.  As Sean Waltman explains on his blog, "juvi juice" was a legal supplement at the time sold under various names like Renutrient and was a chemical precursor to GHB.  In his blog post Waltman called Warrior a hypocrite for airing Hogan's dirty laundry without mentioning his own, like the rumours that he was once a "gay prostitute" (male escort) in Atlanta and his "prayer sessions" at arenas, which was apparently his own code for smoking a joint

It was always hard for me to understand why pro fake wrestling captured any adult audiences. But later I could see some other aspects of it.

It's still real to me dammit!

I enjoy the backstage stuff, so much fuckery, and much of it hilarious. I stopped watching wrestling after a certain age, but i understand that it's like an athletic soap opera for many adults. This was especially true during the McMahon era.

Yup. And for a bb fan from a pre-pubescent age I was impressed with the muscle. The promos are still fun, the old Warrior and the 'cream of the crop' guy. Warrior's speeches made no sense, that's what's so hilarious :D

That's a bit harsh. Hulk Hogan had a number of friends and acquaintances, including Ferrigno. And given the name "Hulk", why wouldn't they talk to Ferrigno about his friendship with Hogan.

On a lighter note, here's Hogan at (what I thought at the time) his peak in 1990, right before WM6.

You’d put Hogan’s peak when he went up against the Ultimate Warrior, and not 3 years earlier when he battled Andre?  Not just Wresllemania III, but this beauty too haha

The last recent collection of Hogan is him getting boo'd to hell and back at the WWE thing.  Boo'd so bad that they cut ties with him.  Then he was trying to start a new wrestling organization.

Yeah, he did a lot of bad things and selfish things for the business.  But he also brought the business into mainstream and made it what it is today.

I never really bought into his opponents having a chance to beat him.  You just knew Andre wasn't because Andre was barely moving at the time.  Likewise for Bundy.  Savage was credible, but you knew he was too small for Vince to have much interest in.  Orndorff had no chance.  He never won a title the entire time he was in the WWF(E).  Sgt Slaughter was a joke.  And even the Rock was not going to matter no what the outcome was.  Warrior was the best "maybe" that he ever tangled with.  But by that time, everyone sort of knew Warrior was not right in the head.

Yeah what he did to Taker was probably the ultimate office politicking of all time(but funny as hell when Taker tells the story) but Hogan still gave a lot of us great memories and created two boom periods.  PIP Hulkster.  That pop when he hit the most muscular against the Rock at Wrestlemania is probably my number 1 wrasslin moment of all time.  Hulk Hogan was truly full of life at that moment.

100%when it comes to wrestling memories.

Anyone who was a kid saw Hogan, Warrior and the road warriors will have fond memories

I think he started out around 6' 5" or so, there are pics with Louie where they're eye to eye almost.

Old age Hogan might've been 6'2" - 6'3" range. Here he is next to Snoop D o-double-g, who is a legit 6' 4" -

Hogan probably had on wrestling boots here.

He said the leg drop ruined his body, he wished he did a choke, a slam, or something less impactful as a finisher.

Hogan started 6'8". But all those back and hip surgeries (plus old age) took their toll.

Look at the pics of him and Vince McMahon in the 80s and early 90s. He's much taller.

By 2002-03, McMahon and Hogan are almost eye to eye.

6'8" was definitely an exaggerated wrestling height. The 6'5" mentioned earlier looks about accurate.

How old were you for wrestlemania 2 & 3?

It’s easy to say in hindsight that  those opponents weren’t going over and lacked credibility , but 93,000 Hulkamaniacs in 1987 had bought in to the Andre threat .

Hogan was never 6”8. Vince would have Andre stand on platform when he was being interviewed so he’d look even taller. I’m sure he did the same with Hogan.

What Hulk said to his son when the son was in jail was a very bad. I don't want to look it up again, but from memory Hulk intimated that the other kid who became a paraplegic, was a very negative person, and that this was like cosmic justice and he was now paying for his negativity. Perhaps this is an understandable coping mechanism to handle a terrible outcome where you are at fault, but it doesn't look good in the least...

And I think Nick had like 4 speeding tickets in the months before the accident.

When he told kids to 'eat your vitamins' was he talking about the 'breakfast of champions'?

Hogan had a wrecked body..he had multiple operations & years of roids...

When I read 'years of roids' I see it as somewhat of an understatement :D

We know docs put mid-teens on roids around the time he was a teen, especially athletic teens who 'wanted to put on weight.' Coach has mentioned he got an Rx when he was 15 IIRC. So we might be looking at potentially 55 years of continuous roids, you generally don't get off at any time once you've been on for a few years and Hogan had an image to uphold. I don't want to minimize the risks of roids, it's generally agreed that they will shed a few years of your lifespan at least, but perhaps also extend it in certain circumstances (loss of strength and muscle is 'bad' for longevity). With that said, he also had decades of rec drug and alcohol abuse. So lasting til 71 sounds good to me all things considered.

Now I watch Jon Bravo and obviously I see nothing objectionable there, but he said "I quit, I'm done," probably making many millions a year through his social media. Ridiculous response from do-gooders IMO. Now Joey releases a forced PR firm directed apology. He had said colored instead of person of color, FFS! The accepted terminology changes constantly, him saying colored wasn't malicious IMO, and Swoll is right than when someone's popular a contingent is just waiting for them to mess up and then they pounce, it's the 'psychology of crowds.'

Friend suggested a helpful distraction, told his wife "when I'm gone, put on a sexy little dress and take care of him, if you know what I mean." Van you think Bubba was a good friend?

Not really, more like filthy degenerate friend :D

Hogan dating his daughter's best friend, the ex-wife going with some young boy, very sick all around :D There was even debate over whether Hogan was banging his daughter, some thought the optics felt off, but I don't know about that... Hogan saying the paraplegic deserved it. But I also think that it's stupid to expect your hero is a saint, they say you should never meet your idols.. Though Hogan saying the n-word in a private convo was the thing that had him canceled for a while, I think the priorities are messed up, but that's just me.
