Title: Hulk Hogan
Post by: eddiebubble on May 25, 2006, 12:27:18 AM
Hulk Hogan without steroids looks about as muscular as Mr Burns from ‘The Simpsons’.

A TV documentary captured him lifting puny weights without shame and if that wasn’t degrading enough he then had the audacity to flex his skinny arms for the camera.

He’s not a bodybuilder therefore why does he do that? I’m 48, 154Ibs and have never taken steroids and my arms look a heck of a lot better than his.

Real bodybuilders must laugh at him.

That is interesting....if this guy was on a t.v show,I would think the real Terry Hogan could get something done about him.

I remember once his daughter was to sing the National Anthem in one of the hockey game and Hogan told her to sing with pride, else he would go down to the rink and bodyslam her.

It's true.. I read it in both newspaper and internet.

He has his own T.V. show....Hogan Knows Best.  The guy is still very large at his age.  He has had a knee replacement and hip replacement and can still get in the ring.  The best is Rocky III when he and Stallone are in the ring.  He is about a foot taller than Stallone and out weighs him by over 100 lbs.

You should def. check him out in Hogan Knows Best on VH1. Mind you he won't win any acting awards but he's still huge. Hogan is 54 i believe, has had a knee replacement, hip replacement, has a bad back and still looks like that. His gym at his home is amazing. His arms are still enormous. Most bodybuilders would probably love to look like him when in their mid 50's. Compare him now to Arnold and who looks better??? King Arnold went from a physique to die for to that wrinkly man wearing a banana hammock on the beach. Hogan walks around Fla and people just look amazed at how big he is. I met him a few years ago here in RI when he and Vince were working out in my gym. Made Vince looks like a little man. Check out the show. Not a show anybody can watch on a weekly basis but worth seeing what we all on here wish we could look like in our 50's.

Remember, all that was built from taking your vitamins and saying your prayers........

I use to know Terry & Linda(his wife) quite well,& I can tell ,he is a very large man with a very large frame, we've traveled quite a bit together esp back in the 80's, & he literally use to take up the entire front seat of my car, an 85 Caprice Classic & if you know the car, you know what a boat they were. I'd meet him at the airport & you could see him coming from far away, he was head & shoulders above everyone. It was funny as hell to see people freak out when they would see him, mobbed everywhere he went, but he was always were cordial to everyone esp the kids.

A number of "real" bodybuilders were inspired by him. Hulk Hogan definitely got me interested in "hangin' and bangin' in the gym...BROTHER!!!"

In his prime Hogan DWARFED most pro bodybuilders at 6'8", 300+ lbs. He may not have had a pure bodybuilder's physique, but the man was HUGE!!!

I have on video footage of his training for his match against Andre the Giant (the one where he loses his title, due to the double referee thing). He's repping with 500 the way most do with 225; and, for back, he's doing PULL-UPS (so much for some of the modern mass-monsters excuses for not being able to do them, because of their size).

One bodybuilder who doesn't care for Hogan (anymore) is Paul Dillett. According to his column in MuscleMag, Dillett was training at Gold's Gym and somebody wanted to introduce him to Hogan, to show the pro wrestler some "real pythons". However, when Hogan got a glance at Dillett, his response was, according to the pro bodybuilder, "Whatever!".

Jesus, there really should be some type of test you have to pass to post on this board. Post your pic and we'll compare that with Hogans and make a fair ruling. Otherwise STFU....154lbs... God I hope this is a gimmick account.

Hulkster can press nothing. He's a big phoney. He's never had real muscles and he's not even a real wrestler. He's an actor and a bad one at that.

Hogan is 6'6, although he like most wrestlers worn 1-2in lifts on their boots, usually 1in on the inside & 1in on the outside to appear even bigger. As far as Dillet goes, he is nothing but a pure piece of sh*t. Anyone who knows the "industry" will tell you the same, he must have come at Hogan differently than what was said, because Hogan was known for being pretty good natured & knew alot of pro BB'ers on a personal level.

Have any of you actually WATCHED "Hogan Knows Best?"  The guy lives in a mansion anyone would be proud to own, looks BETTER than he did 20 years ago, still trains hard at age 55 (or whatever his real age is), and seems like a decent man and father.  He has had, without a doubt, the longest, most successful run as a pro wrestler.

Oh yeah, I was 5'10", 154lbs when I was 16 years old.  If you can't get past that weight at age 30 after training even a year or two, FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.  If you suck at something, why keep doing it?

As some have said. The man has had numorous surgeries/injuries,But continuse to wrestle.Way past his prime. But I give credit where credit is due.He still laces up his boots,And can still make a crowd pop.Add to the fact the man is in better shape than most in there 20's says something about his love of weight training. And there lies the diffrence.Your comparing apples to oranges.Strength atheletes "weight lift".Physique atheletes"body build".I know this is weights 101.Bare with me.
But in wrestling you "weight train".Yes you want to look good in spandex ;D Strength is defanetly wanted as well. But you've got to above all else have superior conditioning,And muscle indurance.Sure you ma be able to go 1 hr. + on the tread mill. But many of you would be surprised how quickly you'd drop inthe ring.[l
Now.By no means am I marking out to Hogan. But think about all the variables he's been through.Hell! The man tore his lat body slaming Andre at Wrestlemania 3.And kept on workin'.Could Coleman,Cutler,or Badell do that?I know,Apples/Oranges.But I think you get where I'm coming from.So when I read about someone making uneducated comments about someone I can relate to.In a buisness I love.I have to speak up.I say get your ass in the ring and train with us.Then run your mouth about someone letting them selves go.After years of constant abuse. At his age?Hell I hope I look that good when I'm his age.I could imagine what kind of shape you'd be in after a week in a wrestling school.Being the 154lb. bruser you are. 8)

My point being that pound for pound I am more muscular and stronger than him and my muscles aren't fake like his or yours.
I love the "Pound for Pound"  argument that small weak guys use.  Almost as good as the "Fake Muscles" argument.

I'll bet you're from the "It's not the size of the ship, it's the motion  of the ocean" school of thought.

It must suck to be so small and weak.

Just out of curiosoty, how tall is that hulking physique that those 154 pounds are hanging from?  5'10"????

You're a fukking beanpole.  I'll bet you don't even look like you've ever seen the inside of the weight room.

308 lbs??  With a Weider barbell set, which has the weights in kilograms instead of pounds, that would be 3 plates per side.  Each plate weighs 44lbs (20 kg) instead of 45 lbs (20.4 kg). Six of those plates, plus a 20 kg. bar equal 308 lbs. (140 kg).

Keep in mind that Weider is Canadian and, I believe folks from the Great White North (as well as internationally, where Weider weights are sold as well) use the metric system.

Therefore, the weights are broken down like this:

 -  20 kg  (44 lb)
 -  15 kg  (33 lb)
 -  10 kg  (22 lb)
 -    5 kg  (11 lb)
 - 2.5 kg  (5.5 lb)
 - 1.25 kg (2.75 lb)

We in the USA are used to 45s, 35s, 25s, 10s, 5s, and 2.5s. So, it takes a bit of adjustment. I used to train occasionally at the home of one of my best friends. He had a Weider weight set, just like the one I just described.

It is a home delivery set; but, I've also seen this used in a Muscle & Fitness video preview tape I got with a bag of Mega Mass 2000. As I said, I first saw this type of barbell set at my best friend's house, where I would train on occasion. And, I believe another poster stated that his gym had these type of weights.

I've also seen these types of sets, when I was in Spain. If you use the metric system, these number aren't "weird" at all.

Now that I recall, I used to have weights in kg as well: The weight set I got from my old grade school. I had one of those old-school tiny benches with the small-diameter bars and the cement weights. The Orbatron ones were in kg. I had the 2 kg (4.4 lb), the 4 kg (8.8 lb), and the heaviest of them all, the 8 kg (17.6 lb).

Man, is this stuff bringing back memories. I kept that until my freshman year of college, when I got my gym membership.

For arm exercises, that's not that big of a deal. It's the major exercises, that would concerned me.

Take the bench press, for example. If you use 4 plates per sides, with a Weider set, that's actually 396 lb (180 kg), instead of 405 lb with a U.S. barbell set.

As for the weight of your bar, keep in mind that there's a variance that the manufacturer can have. Their standard may be plus/minus 5%. And keep in mind that weights get lighter as they rust. I've weighed a 45-lb plate on the scale one and discovered it weighed 43 lbs. My friend, Paul, was complaining that his gym had switched out all the pure metal plates with rubber-coated ones. Less than a week later, the gym where I trained did the same thing, except for the 100-lb ones.

As I mentioned before, I had one of those when I was younger, during my teen years. I stopped using it when I got my gym membership.

Regarding the Weider weights, someone asked how can someone bench 308 lbs. And, the answer is simple: If their weights are standardized in kg instead of lbs, 308 lbs equals three plates per side, plus the bar.

The only weight set I've seen with kg-plates have been either the cement-filled Orbatron ones (which I used to have at home) and a Weider Barbell set, with the weights standardized as listed earlier (i.e. a 20-kg plate equals 44 lb.).

I absolutely hated the WWF (WWE) in the 80's because of Hogan. You just knew it was in his contract that if he was in the federation he was gonna be the man holding the title.Limited all the other wrestlers w/much better talent than him.Hell, a running clothesline is more devastating than his leg drop! The man was absolutely terrified at Wrestlemania II that Andre would not go along w/letting Hogan slam & win the match. In a bio I read it says Vince M was getting asked that all day before the match by Hogan.BTW check out the wrestlers when they slam a person.Always a very slight bounce by the slamee & the hand strategically placed on the slammers upper thigh to give a little upwards push to help out the slammer.

I trained wiht him in Waikiki at the old World Gym there.  He did bench 315 for 6 good ones.  And he was strong with the cross-overs too.  He is tall and he has a long arm span (at least compared to me).  I was impressed seeing him do 315.  He was thick too.  He was in town for a wrestling event.  In fact this was a match right after Brutus the Barber Beefcake got his face ripped off in that accident.  People would walk by the fence at the gym and look in and thought I was Brutus.  Sorry to burst the haters bubbles, but he was pretty strong for his height and asmuch as the outcome of every match is staged, and punching is staged, the falls, flying around, jumping is real as are the multi numerous injuries they recieve.  Very agile guys for being so big.  I was a celebrity referee for that day and refereed a womens match.  At the end she clothes lined me and I went flying.  It was great.

Are you talking about when he did the beach face plant while para-sailing?

Hogan has enough money a nice house and a nice family, why would anyone laugh at that? The man doesn't look bad at all considering the beating his body took in the ring.

I heard he was helping someone water ski and was in front of them.  When the boat took off the skag on the ski went right over his face and split it wide open.  The pic below is his ex wife Kristen.  Man do I have some memories of that.  What a great time in Ft Meyers.  She worked at Hooters and was featured in Playboy.

Whether Andre helped hogan to slam him at wrestlemania 3 or not (by pushing up with his hand on hogan's thigh) it was still an insane feat of strength in my opinion.

It looked like a rabbit picking up an elephant.

Perhaps, in all your hatred, you forgot the simple fact that Hogan and Andre's match was at Wrestlemania III.

 ;D

Besides, it was the 80s. If anyone BUT Hulk Hogan was WWF Champion, things simply weren't right with the wrestling world. Nobody could hold a candle to the guy. We found that out, during the year Randy Savage had the title.

Damn bro, you amaze me. Is there anyone you don't know? BTW - In that picture, you should have "accidentally" lowered your elbow a bit and rubbed up on those fun bags  ;D

A 315 bench for 6 reps isn't much to press. Especially when you consider how big Hogan was and then add on all the steroids he was taking.
That was probably him at his strongest too. Big,useless arsehole.

There is gym strength and their is functional strength.  I would hope most of you would know that.  Most people have one or the other and few have both.  I know many guys who can't lift shit in the gym but if they get ahold of you no matter how strong they are you aren't getting away.  Gymnasts are a perfect example.  They throw and support themselves in things not one BB or powerlifters ever could.  And when you say well they weigh only 160 lbs. that may be true but in many of the events their bodyweight is increased through g-force yet they can support themselves with ease.  Do you think Ronnie could even come close to an iron cross or even a plange.  Hogan was okay strong considering his limb length, but he also had incredible functional strength.  Football players have awesome functional strength but suck in the gym.  You take a 300 lineman and put him up against any pro and he would demolish them.  But in the gym he would get his ass kicked.
