could you run a mile in under 10 minutes?
-
is that considered in shape?
i could, and i'm not in shape.
-
could you run a mile in under 10 minutes?
only when gettin chased by the cops
-
thats a dumb way to measure it. Say someone like markus or ronnie, maybe even gustavo...they are in tremendous shape, but they probably gonna collapse cause of their weight. So would that be considered Un-Fit?
-
Markus, Ronnie and Gustavo are huge and lean, but that sometimes has nothin to do with heart health.....their hearts may be enlarged and their kidneys may not function properly.
-
Alexx, you don't look to be in very good shape from the pictures you have posted? I mean "shape" in the body fat sense. You could be in great cardiovascular shape.
Chris

yes it would be.
one of the requirements of being fit is maintaining your breath while doing anything more than flexing in your underwear.

F running. Every serious runner looks like an emaciated aids patient

Yes, they are un-fit. All they have are "show muscles" with no heart or lungs to support useful function.
-
10 minutes is to easy, 7-8 minutes is better, i can do it in 6, but after that my time would slow to about 7minutes a mile.
-
Would be exhausted.
I don't think any bodybuilders national or IFBB etc... can run a mile today
-
There was old man in my gym that used to say, "you show me the best 25 bodybuilders in the world and I'll show you 25 men that can't run the length of a city block without EMS assistance."
-
Arnold use to run a mile everyday even when in competition. If I race I could probably hit a mile in less than 2 minutes.

Well, given that the world record is like 4 minutes something, that would be quite an accomplishment. ::)

wow!

Well I guess I can set the new world record. :)

Ronnie and especially Marcus are not healthy at all. If you think being 280 plus pounds of muscle at their height with the amount of drugs they take is healthy you are nuts.
Just cuz they are ripped does not mean they are in cardiovascular "shape"as he was asking.
Just like goatboy said.... All show and no go with those guys. Just wait until they are over 60. If they make it that far.
-
I once walked a mile in under 30 minutes. Because I drink 15 gallons of water daily I had to stop and pee a lot. :(
-
cardiovascular shape may not constitute health either
-
Being in shape = Seeing abs 8)

Really? I can see my abs perfectly and I am not in shape.

your too hard on yourself
-
I am playing soccer and slowly getting more fit cardiovacularly.
Alexxx can blow 3 guys in 2 minutes, that's impressive!
-
Walked the strip in Vegas once doing a pub crawl. Does that count?
-
I guess I'd be considered "in shape" relativly heavy training 3 days per week and speed training the other 3 usually consisting 5 X 100yrds and 10X40yrds and sometimes more when I have time!
-
betweeen the few blunts a day, and the no cardio since november......id have to say im out of shape.
-
I think Ronnie would beat everyone at a waling lundge race. Let's say with 315 lbs on his back. Most people could not lundge that. :o
-
could you run a mile in under 10 minutes?
2 miles 12 minutes, no bs. Was 11 minutes, but I broke my ankle and had limited cardio for 5 weeks. I run about 10 miles a day, 6 days a week. Never really try for speed, could maybe do 2 in 10 and a half?
-

Quote of the night...bravo!LOL ;D ;D
I used to run a lot at at wt of 225 ran 4 miles under 35 min, not bad huh
-
I used to run five miles in about 32 minutes (best was about 30 minutes) but then again I also weighed about 175 at the time. But I still think I could run a mile in about 7-8 minutes.
-

Why do you post shit like this?

Wow! Howie you're in the wrong sport. Why not take up Clydsdale Marathon running? If you can run like that at 225 lbs, you'll clean house at just over 200 lbs. I wonder what the world record for a Clydsdale is anyway? I know, you could be the Bo Jackson type. But, instead of Baseball/Football, it's Bodybuilding/Running. 8)
-
Being all round physically is in my opinion preferable than being a huge muscled bodybuilder who runs out of air after an attempt to fix their shoelaces.
That's the price you pay for being freaky.
-
Alexxx can blow 3 guys in 2 minutes, that's impressive!
Now that would make Derek jealous

I can run it in a little under 6 minutes. I am 47 years old. I weigh 185 at 5'8". If I went down to 175 I'm sure I could get to the low 5's. Running is a good indicator of function. I love bodybuilding but to much emphasis is on cosmetics over function. I wouldn't be happy with big lifts without having cadio endurance and I wouldn't be happy being a cardio animal without strength.
-
During the commentary for the 93 Olympia , Jim Quinn states that Flex had a skinfold measurement done at Golds and it was 0.0% the lowest ever tested at Golds. Does that mean Flex was in shape?

Yeah, but does he work his heart?

-

You can run a mile under 5 min but still have heart disease, an unfavorable blood composition, something wrong with an organ, etc.
-
I'm so fat I haven't gotten up from my couch in five. I have food brought to me, piss in a bucket, and my skin has kinda "fused" to the couch's fabric. ;D

I use lard, then deep-fry the aspirins.
i'm so fat that on an airplane i sit next to everybody ;D

You fat imbeciles are incolent! You need discipline!

Being out of shape regarding cardio is a risk factor to heart health. It's the number one killer of man. There are a lot of factors that determine a heart failure. Genetics, inflamation, triglerides, HDL to LDL ratios; total cholesterol, blood sugar, diet, body fat levels, and cardio fitness to name some.
The argument that I know a 20 year smoker that is healthy or a 15 year steroid user that is healthy is pure stupidity. They are a risk to health. You can't go to the extremes of statistics to prove a non existent point. Sure as the sun rises a good runner will die from a heart attack. As sure as that the majority of runners will prevent a heart attack from their running program.
Cardio endurance is important. If you don't believe it go down to your local boxing gym and fight a three rounder. I bet the next day you be lacing up up your running shoes.
-

jim fixx might disagree with you on that point
-
i ran a 1000 miles once!
-
jim fixx might disagree with you on that point
i believe fixx had a preexisting heart ailment which he wouldn't take meds for, and wouldn't allow for treatment. fell dead one day very young.
-
could you run a mile in under 10 minutes?
yes

fell dead while jogging ;D. he had a family history of heart disease, his father died at 42
nothing beats genetics
-
fell dead while jogging ;D.
brutal road rash.
-
I couldn't run a mile in 10 minutes cause it is too boring :-X
All the times I tried to do cardio I did like 2 or 3 minutes on the threadmil :-\
-
i dont care what anyone says...... if i had two weeks to get into running shape, and was being chased by a killer animal, i could pass the mile mark in no more than 3 minutes.
what these runners need is proper motivation; at the next olympics they should have a lion chase the runners during the mile run, i guarentee you everyones time would improve by at least 30 seconds.
-
i heard running on sand in practice will work wonders on your best 1 mile time.
-
I'm so fat I haven't gotten up from my couch in five. I have food brought to me, piss in a bucket, and my skin has kinda "fused" to the couch's fabric. ;D
That's actually happened numerous times to overly obese people :-\
Anyway i have done a 5:30 something a few years back :)
-
I'm so fat, I have shit in my rolls...and don't even know it. :-X Reality is crazy, isn't it?
-
I can run the 400m in 1 min. I'm winded after. That's about my best time for a sprint. I ran the Massey Clydsdale at 6'3 and ;D just over 200lbs in about 4 hrs. That's 26.2 miles. I love to run! It's a high for me. Anyone here get the runners high? I never have a problem getting or staying lean. I find muscle harder to build. Most people at my gym seem to be the other way around.
-
I know. That's where I got the idea from.

The one story i know was with this women who was married (husband was a dumb SOB) but much bigger and when she got to the emergency room they found her skin was graphed to the couch along with years of defication :-[
It was on T.V. so nasty and so sick especially all the descriptions :)

pretty good.
how many pull ups (hands supine)? And have you ever done Hindu squats?
I'm considering trying calisthenics. Combat trainers swear by it.

I gotta say that is the finest logic I have heard on this board. Your entusiasm is both refreshing and what this sport is missing!

Goudy that is another excellent point! How stupid and lazy can people get?? We are proven wrong everyday!!

Running or any cardio will decrease your resting heart rate. This illustrates that your heart is pumping more volume at rest. It's more efficient. It increases HDL to LDL ratio. It decreases body fat not only subcutaneous but visceral. It also lowers blood pressure. It can have a positive effect on cholesterol and triglycerides. It can also promote healthy blood sugar levels.
There are many risk factors to heart health and being out of shape is one of them. Is it a cure all? I don't have to answer that question because someone will bring up Jim Fixx. Heart attacks is the number one killer of man. I'm sure many of you guys in your 20's couldn't give a damm about that but one day you will be in your 40's and 50's. Pay attention to risk factors.
On an athletic consideration endurance is part of the pie that makes a successful winner. I wouldn't want to ground fight, box, or just about any athletic activities missing a good cardio background. Skill, speed, endurance, reaction, and power are some components of most athletics in different ratios. How many steroid pros have true cardio endurance?

I can run two miles in 13 minutes... I timed myself last week or so...... The problem though with actually being 'fit' is that for me I slidown too much and dont look puffed up like my normal beasting self...but I must confess that because I have been involved in a BBall summer league and I play soccer on weekend mornings..i am a measly 195.... For the Mr. Get Big, I need to come in at 215 or I might not even show...
