I don't want to die just another slob-with my name on a gravestone someplace. I want to die with my name somewhere at the top. Make a little dent in the sport I'm in, so that maybe forty years from now people will say, 'Hey, that guy was Mr.America.' This would give me enough happiness to die with a smile on my face.
- Mike Katz
I won't do anything else until I win Mr.Universe. If I have train ten years, I'm going to win it. I don't know why I say that because the education is just as important, but I could not be happy right now going out as a loser. I placed third in Mr.Universe last year. If I went out as a loser it would make the ten years I've spent in bodybuilding a complete waste.

I want to be bigger than everybody else, but I wouldn't want to be so big that people can't accept it. For instance, if you come in with 30-inch-arms, even your own peers aren't going to accept that. I wouldn't want to be that way. I wouldn't want to infinitely become unreal.

he owns a gym I used to go to, it was called WOrld Gym and they had great equipment with dumbells that went up to 200lbs------almost overnight he changes the gym to "Planet Fitness" and gets rid of all the good equipment including all the heavy dumbells down to 60lbs
He would give anybody who actually lifts in there an attitude----------they had a bell that would go off if someone dropped a weight a decibel too loud-----------------basically he wanted only fat out of shape middle aged diabetics to go there.
He's a sellout-----f*ck Katz
-
Katz should've realized earlier in his BB career that time spent in the squat rack contributes to every champion BBers success.

I belive he said something about a knee or similar injury when playing fullback for the NY Jets in Pumping Iron.
Perhaps this is why his lower body work was less intense ???

That is indeed Adonis´father, Adonis have a lot of anger towards him for going the steroids route... he's determined to be bigger and better than his father, all natural to "show him"
Hate like that can take you a long way.

And he just expanded the place with another cardio and circuit area according to their website... lots of money in catering to fat slobs

A pompous windbag who rambled on and on during an appearance here in NY; he looked 87 years old. Never had a great physique at all.
He was an offensive lineman for the Jets for a while.
-
Mike Katz was and still is an emotional old man who has always tried to overcompensate for his shortcomings and crappy childhood. He never won the Mr Universe (and with good reason), and did zero damage at the Olympia. He also aged terribly.

Adonis?
-
Katz is one of the greats.
He did pretty well on the Olympia stage.
-
Katz back is too big for his arms, he has one pose and that makes him look like a spider... hahahah
Katz' Pumping Iron Meltdown is Classic!! The music in the background with dazed look in his eyes hahahahah
But he did have some strange looking lats and chest

damn, that's the exact same thing that happened to the Gold's i used to work at.
Planet Fagness
They are a "Judgement Free" zone, in other words, if you are a fat slob and have $12 a month, you can be "Janet Fagness" Problem is, they cater to the undesirable gymgoer who won't continue to go but will continue to get drafted for their membership monthly. All about selling a high volume of memberships and not helping a damn soul.

Went to a seminar here given by Dave Draper at MidCity Gym on 49th street. There was another old guy up on the platform with him, I said to myself why is the accountant for the gym up there, I guess he must be a fan. He was fat bald, sickly pale and looked like he never lifted a weight in his life, I mean never.. Then he started giving advice to guys about lifting. I was like WTF!!!, Turns out the dude was Mike Katz, former Mr. America. I am tellin you dudes he looked horrible, nothing about him said that he was Mr. America. His wife, sorry but she was just as fat and just plain ugly. I can't imagine when the meet new people and tell them the Mike was MR. America, they must be laughed at. Seriously dude, he looks horrible. I walked home stunned, totaly depressed and thought about never lifting again. Damn if Im gonna look like that forget it. Whats the point. But then I returned to my state of denial and I am back in the gym.

um no he didnt. in 76 he placed 2nd in the heavyweight class out of 2 competitors. and in 81 he placed 15th out of 17 competitors. his only claim to fame is Pumping Iron, in which he was consistently owned by Ken Waller.

Howie, he was an offensive guard.

Its about money. Hardcore bodybuilding gyms don't make money. Yuppie gyms do.

Thats nothing. I went to Mike's Katz first gym. Jerry Mastrangelo and Ken Passariello were the co- owners of the gym. It was "World Gym East" in Hamden, CT. Eventually he had to buy a franchise of "World Gym" in the late 80's because Joe Gold threatened a lawsuit or something. I started going there when I stayed summers in CT back in 1979. That was hardcore gym, all the WWF wrestlers lifted there. Powerlifters. Olympic lifters. Guys who competed on the national level. I saw some serious physiques and awesome feats of strength in that gym. That was an awesome experience for an 18 year old.
-
At the Dave Draper seminar he said something about ruining his shoulders over the years lifting. Warned lifters to take care of them

Oh yeah, i forgot about the "LUNK ALARM"...one of my friends stayed there for a bit and still trained. one day he racked the Smith machine and the alarm went off ::)

True story. I worked out at one when on a business trip last year. When I finished I ask the girl at the desk if I could buy a post-workout shake. Her answer? "We don't sell those. We believe you should only be natural." I just stared at her blankly and left. What a place.

mike katz had the best front forehead pose of all time.it even holds up to this day although jay cutler seems determined to try and better it

Interesting to see that Mike took 2nd place to Ken Waller in the heavyweight division of the 1976 Olympia, but beat Ken in the 1981 Olympia (though not many others at 15th out of 17th places).

Anyone have any pictures of Mike and the lineup from the 1976 and 81 Olympias?
-
LOL!
Mike hasn't trained in a long, long time.
-
they had a bell that would go off if someone dropped a weight a decibel too loud.
LOL..I remember Joe Gold at World Gym in Santa Monica had an overhead office above the gym and when someone didn't put their weights away he would yell at them through a PA system.....LOL!! Onlyme might remember that as well....Eddie Guliani was there everyday all day, I think he was Joe's shadow!!
-
someone plz put up a picture with adonis and katz side by side..need a laugh

Brutal synthol abuse.

Shit, he would be yelling all day if that was the case at every gym I have ever worked out in.

I trained there once with Samir and was not impressed by Zabo. I never went back. The guy was a dick. My former roommate was Eddie Giliani's training partner for like a year and I heard those stories every day.
-
He never won the Mr. America.

me too. he claims to have had a rough childhood too. I like how his name went down as a great bodybuilder.

He never won the Mr. America.
Says he did here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Katz
and in 72 he won the tall class

The AAU Mr. America was the only real Mr. America. Mike Katz and Dave Draper won the phoney IFBB version.

Frank Zane, Mike Katz, Ken Waller, Ed Corney Lou Ferrigno, Bob Birdsong, Robby Robinson, Mike Mentzer, Danny Padilla all won the “phony” Mr. America?
Man I’m glad I found out the truth. Man all these years I thought these guys were great bodybuilders and now I find out they got there by winning a “phony” contest. That’s just brutal. My life has no meaning now.

The AAU America was the phoney one. They kept Sergio from winning because he was black.
-
Don't foget Harold Poole in the AAU Mr. America. The AAU was the class of the amateurs in later years.
