The majority of pros now have a trainer/nutritionist do everything for them. Tell them how to workout, what to eat, how much to eat.
Who was Arnold's nutritionist? Did arnold pay a trainer $350 an hour with money he made from dealing steroids or posing naked for gay guys to help him win Mr. Olympia? NO
Most of the pros don't think for themselves. That's not bodybuilding. They're just lab rats for the 'gurus'.
It's so stupid that Chad Nicholls has clients who compete against eachother.

Its ALL about the money now. Bodybuilding these days has got nothing to do with busting your ass, mutual friendships and the simple the joy of BB.

the guys back in that era had no need for a nutritionist...they just trained...actually most of them overtrained... ate lots of protein(red meat)....and a few tabs of ciba dianabol...simple and basic.
training, nutrition and supplements has come a long way since then...to achieve the level of muscularity and conditioning needed to do well today many bodybuilders need to hire a nutritionist...like it or not bodybuilding is a science.
most of the bodybuilders back then couldnt even win a national level npc show today...excluding the 2 great ones, arnold and sergio...they would be considered smooth by todays standards...thats not a knock against them...they just didnt have the the knowledge of training and nutrition we have today...or the amount of supplements and drugs...thats why its not even fair to compare those guys to bodybuilders of today.
-
Oh I knowwwwwwwwww and the music kids listen to these days is just noise isnt it...
-
Was I not clear? I was not trying to compare types of bodies from then and now rather I am saying that today BB is all about money plain and simple. So because its all about money the joy of BB seems to be gone forever.
And music ? whats that got to do with the current bb scene. BTW i love todays music as much as yesterdays

Gay for pay is huge in BB. Check out the thread "Posing Suits" with nearly 30,000 pages viewed:
http://forum.bodybuildingpro.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15
I haven't had much time to check out my own boards lately but there are tons of nude photos in there.
That's why I told you before that your forum is gaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. You should delete that thread and ban its creator, or give them a sub-forum titled "Dirty Fags Who Are Going To Hell". Put it at the bottom where no one has to see it.

gotta pay the rent
cant keep it real livin in a dumpster homie

All drugs these days.

I don't totally disagree with this statement but I will say this: In pro sports like football and hockey you have trainers and I'm sure you have nutritionalists so it only makes sense for alot of these guys to go this route. If I was a pro and it came down to me making money and winning a show witha trainer or finishing 8th...I'd go with the trainer.
-
"Back in my day the BBers did it all themselves. No shindiggity new-fangled contraptions like the Nautilus machine or nutritional gurus like Chad. These new kids have it easy, sonny." (my joke)
Sure, they have it easier if they have the money for it, but you still gotta WORK FOR IT!!!!!!!!!
The money is a great part, but not everyone can be in the top 10 at the O. where the money is good. That's 10 people out of tens of thousands of BBers. I'm sure it's hardly about the money to most people.

???for most of these guys bodybuilding is their full time job...they make their money guest posing, appearenes, seminars, supplement contracts, prize money, selling pics and videos....if hiring a trainer and nutritionist is gonna help them make more money they need to do it.
boxers, cyclist, track athletes, ect all have trainers and nutritionist...why not bodybuilders.
-
This "all about money" isn't strictly true when it comes to bodybuilding. The amount of prize money these guys make at contests is swallowed up to pay for nutritionalists, drugs, supplements and the like, so economically, bodybuilding is crap. If you want to make money in sport, stick to golf or tennis.
-
ANYTHING FOR THE SANDOW... ;D ;D

I doubt any bodybuilder tries to live off of or intends to ever live off prize money. Prize money is birdfeed unless you're new and win the Arnold/ Olympia, otherwise you should have amounted enough sponsors to live comfortably + dealing steroids + Gay for pay.

Dudes, Arnold was definitley a kept man. THere are no records of his employment during his Venice days.

That's pretty stupid. Hmmm...let's look at other sports.
Boxing: they've got trainers, managers, "handlers"
Baseball: they've all got trainers now, coaches (hitting and fielding), managers
Football: most have lifting trainers, coaches for EVERYTHING
Every sport has this. So what? It's just a natural progression in sports where you're always trying to get that extra edge.
-
Who was Arnold's nutritionist?
it was john balick now owner of ironman magazine

He made menion of that type of situation in his book. When he was in Europe he had some "benefactor"
Of course nothing gay happened.... ::)

Of course not. Benefactors often take young muscle men under their wing and provide for them out of the goodness of their hearts... happens every day. :D

How hard do you have to train and diet to be 175-235 lbs. @ 5-7% bf on stage. Hell you did'nt even have to tan or paint to win back then. I am way old school but Let's not miniturize what's going on right now. we can't go backwards. I need 8-10 meals/day 2 workouts 2 cardios and 10-12 hrs sleep. Someone has gotta Help a brother out!!!

First off I thought you looked great winning the contest, but...let's not be ridiculous here. Arnold and Sergio (to name just two guys from back then) were pretty friggin' amazing. Training to look like them ain't easy. And as good as you looked in this recent contest, I wouldn't bet on your physique against Sergio at his best any day of the week.
I'm sorry but for all your 10-12 hrs of sleep, 8+ meals a day and whatever else you do, you haven't equaled (or passed) this:

Lazy wankstas do or else they would be too dazed to open the front door.

thats the truth right there...like i said in the other post, nothing against those guys from the 60s and 70s but that type of physique wouldnt even win a quality npc show today.
toney i know you worked with author l rea in the past...did you work with anyone on your prep for the europa?

lazy unemployed bodybuilders do! ;)

Sergio was one of a kind. He worked 10 hour butcher shifts and after that went in to train for hours non end. Few have that will power especially bodybuilders today.
Toney Freeman is the closest physique to ironage today.
-

common man...l like sergio also but u gotta keep it real...if sergio came with that physique today he would not do well...it is a different sport today.
you cannot compare toney and sergios physiques...toney would blow him away on legs, conditioning, and the level of musculartiy and detail...especially from the back.
now if sergio was competing today and had the same advantages of training methods, nutrition, and drugs....it would be a different story.
-
Toney is wider than I though.

Toney is a monster plain and simple

Sergio had some of, if not the best genetics of all-time, along with Wheeler and Dillet.

yes sir.

Serge thinks that Sergio is the most blessed bodybuilder because he would train badly and never paid attention to nutrition.

Well, the drugs take care of a lot of the nutrition issues. Much better nutrient partioning on the sauce.

so? lots didn't. wouldn't Arnold go eat a pie to himself 3 weeks out of a compition? when they were chilling out at the beach did you see tupperware containers of chicken, potatoes and broccoli?

I only report what I do. If I get 10-12 hrs of sleep I'm not saying I sleep that long. It's usually broken up between workouts. 2 naps and the 6-8 hrs at night. I also eat 8-10 meals cause that's what works for me. I do 2 cardios and 2 workouts because evidently that what CHAMPIONS do. I'm glad I finally figured that out so I am able to enjoy the fruits of my labor. If some of you want to have some of the same type of experiences in life you might want to listen to this old man...peace
p.s. OR NOT

I been doing this a long time but I have learned so much in the last 18mo. That it has and will continue take me farther than i ever thought possible...peace

What kind of drugs do you take. That is important if someone wants to look like you. More so than twice a day workouts and 8-12 hours of sleep.

You do Dorian Yates' workout twice a day?

Same drugs that everyone else takes. He just has better genetics than 99% of people, you included.

He is not taking the same drugs that Sergio Oliva took though.

I think i speak on behalf of 90% of everyone here when I say its good to have you post here soo often (as of late)

Sergio boasted that he drank coca cola and ate pizza regularly cause he rationalized that it basically comes down to calories

My point is, he is on the same drugs everyone else is today, including all no names all over the internet, yet he is top 5 in the world. All genetics.
Toney would still be a very big dude without the drugs if his diet and training were optimized for a natural.
TA, I have never used, nor do I endorse the use of steroids, much like you. However, why do you continually shove your anti-steroid rhetoric in our faces 24/7?
-
Sergio boasted that he drank coca cola and ate pizza regularly cause he rationalized that it basically comes down to calories
yes, and they could do that no problem, just like the pros of today could too, just it would impact their physqiue compared to the next guy who isn't eating the pizza. and at the level the sport is at now these guys don't have room to be eating pizza and drinking coca cola. even though im sure they'd love to.
-
With drugs, you can be huge and shredded eating pizza, mcdonalds, soda, etc.
