i have seen this alot of times that big and strong guys always humble..guys like kevin levrone, ronnie coleman, markus ruhl, orville burke, dorian yates, jay cutler etc are like freaks of nature in real life and when you talk to them they are so humble...i have known some big guys who boast about themselves and are too cocky and they fuckin act like assholes...but in the case of pro bodybuilders its completely the opposite..these guys are like the bigger they become the more humble they get..and that is why i respect these pro bodybuilders alot.all of these freaks are so soft spoken its seems strange sometimes
-
Because they are professionals and that`s part of their profession.

They are humble b/c they do not have a physique rather a chemical costume. They are guilty. That is the truth!!!!
-
Lou Ferrigno says "HI" ;D
-
I wouldn't consider Ronnie humble
-
@Howdog
Here`s the truth. You`re an idiot.
-
Because, they are not insecure.
I mean they dont need to bother themselves with pretending like "they have something".
Because,THEY HAVE.
-
Lou Ferrigno says "HI" ;D
and charges you 20 bucks for bodybuilding tips if you reply.
-
They are stupid to be humble.
Arnold wasn`t. Either was Serge Nubret.
They would beat everyone before the contest.
They had greater intelligence.
-
Very cool. I like this and think it's totally true (in most cases...Ronny it just weird I'd say, not especially cocky).
Let's have a competition to see who can list the most people on GetBig who 'are pretending like 'they have something'". I'll start:
You reek of insecurity fatbody..........You can`t get lean because your fat is your mental blanket....You think it is muscle. You think you are bigger than everyone when it is all just fat. You then look at your arms and think,"Oh how puny they are,I`ll go get synthol from Greggvalentino.net and start injecting.Maybe then people will think I am big."
Your lifts are a joke...I am STRONGER than you....I have outlifted you and you are nearly 300 lbs of uncooked bacon...hahhahahahahahha hhahaha
-
Ok, thats fine. You're stronger than me. So go to a powerlifting board and stay away from us pussy bodybuilders lifting tiny weight.
Open invitation to leave Adonis. You said it, not me.
hahhahah YOU ARENT A BODYBUILDER!!!!!!!!!
You use Synthol like a protein shake. You are FAT.
Bodybuilding IS NOT FAT building. hahhahahh
You are just a fat slob who goes to the YMCA. Go find the fat slob YMCA board. You know nothing about bodybuilding or the history of it. You NEVER have been lean. hahhahah

Wasn't is Arnold who said... "When you are driving a Ferrari, you don't have to speed around all the time. You know when you push the pedal you're going to go faster than everybody."

Not to steer this thread totally off topic, but how did you possibly pull off doing 112 reps with 225 lbs in the deadlift?
DaddyWaddy. The bodybuilding/weightlifting gods blessed me yesterday and I did 112 reps total with 225 on the deadlift. Breathing like a locomotive for sure.

Hard Work. Deadlift has always come easily for me.
Next time I do it I will videotape it. The trick is, NEVER put the bar down...If you have to stand there and catch your breath for a few seconds, do so with the bar in hand.

Humble? I hope you are never stranded on a desert island with a bodybuilder. He'll steal your rations and let you starve to death rather than lose muscle.

A picture says a thousand words. Brutal exemplification of virtually every bodybuilder stereotype known to man encapsulated in one photo image... :o

Pro BB are mostly about the money themself and thier personal enjoyment usually in that order.
My personal experience shows me that (not a complete list):
Quincy, Melvin (last couple of years) = HUMBLE
Dexter, DJ, Shari, Stan, Shawn = NOT HUMBLE
Milos, Dorian somwwhere in between
-keep it real-

100% correct
Most people who talk shit have done nothing. It is due 100% because of being insecure. it makes them feel better about themselves.

and professional bodybuilders that need to shoot grams of hormones a week to get bigger are not insecure?
juiced bodybuilders are the most insecure people on earth, i would say at least 95% start the roids because they feel small, weak and want to look bigger and be respected by the people in their lives.

I agree with you 100%. I don't know if anyone has ever done this but I bet if you look at pictures of pro BB's before they started lifting and competing I bet they were all small guys who got picked on or didn't fit in. I am sure some of them were athletic and were okay, but I bet the majority of them were weaker and got picked on.

its called bigorexia or some shit like that

Met Jay Cutler at the GNC convention in Orlando...a friend of mine asked for his autograph...lets just say he is not too humble.
-
I think most bigger guys are humble. Especially strong ones. I don't think BB's can be classified as humble since they are in a profession where they are showing off there bodies in a thong on stage (about as unhumble as you can get). But I know allot of bigger guys who have made a living from being big and are or were the best at what they did and they are very humble. Maybe loud at times but humble about their achievements and power. i was alway called humble. I wanted to be that way because in my sport anyone could beat anyone. I just couldn't see me going crazy on stage like others did and then lose. That would be very embarrassing. I did think allot when I went places with my friends like movies, dinner, mall or wherever that I knew I was the strongest guy there. I enjoyed knowing that but never bragged about it. Most people could see I was strong. When I lifted I tried my best to make it look easy. You can ask anyone who has trained with me that I don't strain to much. I do what I can do without making it look hard. I was always told a good player makes everything look easy. I always tried to make it look easy.
-
i was alway called humble.
you must act different in person than you do here
numerous times I've seen you mention "I have this" or "I had that" or "I knew so and so"
on what planet is that considered humble?
not a flame, just an honest observation
E
-
Because they are just putting on show. Being a bodybuilder at that level is very egoistic. Naturally they don't want to come of like that. Everyone wants to be loved, admired and respected, it's just human nature, oh and did I mention the increasing your popularity and chances of getting fat contracts? In bodybuilding You come first at all times...
So, just do cardio and relax, you know It's right... bodybuilding is bad stuff, will fuck you up!

I am different in person as I'm sure you are. I am a dick on here because others are dicks. I am pretty confident that in person not many would be a dick to me. When I say on here I have something or knew so and so I am not be boisterous. I am trying to contribute to the thread. When you see me mention somebody I might know, worked with or met it is generally because it has to do with the thread. I don't usually just say I know Chuck Norris is the thread has nothing to do about him. I just so happen to know allot of people and because of that I make money. People who know allot of people even say to me "you know allot of people". I can't help it. I try not to burn bridges either. And if I do I do it because I would never in my life want to do business or have anything to do with that person ever again. I am right now starting to do business and talk to someone nearly everyday after not seeing or talking to him since 1987. Now we are going into business together.

I rarely do this, but I have to agree with what TA says.
Bodybuilders act humble so they can fit in. We generally overcompensite what we've done with our bodybuilding with humble behavior to make other people feel "comfortable."
This is a very BAD habit of behavior to get used to in the "real world"(among many that come with successful bodybuilding).
If you want to be average in life, act humble. Make sure every John Doe who hasn't accpomlished anything in their life feel comfortable with you. Play yourself and your accomplishments down--so they won't be intimidated.
That a definite path to MEDIOCRITY in life.
Being humble is for the average.
Successful people aren't humble, boys. They may seem like it--but they aren't.
They truly believe that they are WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than most people.

Really, I know ALLOT of very successful people and all of them are humble. And I know allot that aren't. My uncle Joe has the biggest mouth of really anyone I know and it not because he is rich as hell it's because he is short and always want to be the center of attention. He wear tennis shoes and t-shirts. He is very down to earth though. Here is a name that most people that know anything in the industry and has met him will say the same thing, HE IS ULTRA HUMBLE. That is Pete G. Not many more humble than him. And he can buy just about anything he wants. I loved it when we went to SEMA one year. He was asking questions about some items for one of his Porsches. The item cost around $10,000 or so. And he told the guy he needed 4 of them for his cars. The guy looked at him like he was full of shit cause Pete just had on jeans, t-shirt and boots. Little did he know Pete could have bought every car in the show. SO there are some humble rich people and there some that are not.

TA doesn't anything about the real world. When has he even met Arnold or anyone in fact. Arnold played games with everyone. Playing mind games with his competition is what he did. He loved it. Why anyone would listen to Apenis is beyond me.

Ali was like that for the cameras and for the public. I have been with him and seen him how he acts without a camera in his face. I have talked to him and listened to him. I have been with his wife and watched him talk when it just us. He is a quiet and very humble man now. He might have been different a long time ago but I still think it was all an act. I like to judge people when they are alone with you or without a crowd. At the dinner when he was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame I sat right next to him at dinner and had to help him cut his steak and even tell him the date so he could sign an autograph for Carlos Palamino (I think thats who it was). I had to tell people to leave him alone so he could eat. He was so normal. Then when he had to go up on stage and do his speech when he got his award, after at least 5 minutes of a standing ovation and everyone screaming and yelling ALi, Ali, Ali, he started to speak and I swear if you closed your eyes you would have thought you were at a press conference back in the 70's. He was so excited and I remember him saying "you guys never thought this black would do it did you". And he was just going off. After that we went up stage together and I sat between him and Jake LaMotta to sign autographs for everyone in attendance. It was most autogrpahs I have signed at one time. Over 1000. My girlfriend and Mrs. Ali and Jakes daughter sat at the table just waiting for us. And the second biggest highlight of the night was when Ali asked me for my autograph. I was floored. He then signed the program on his page to me "From the X Champ to the New Champ". I will never forget it. And yes I lost it cause Tony Halme girlfriend through it away. Thats another story.

Some people are humble, some are not, regardless of profession.
There are those that are not humble, even though people assume they would be according to their profession.
There are also bodybuilders that are humble, when most people assume they would not be.

My manager at the time was Art Braverman's nephew and we did allot with boxing. He ask them if I could go to the awards dinner. They said yes and made me a Guest of Honor. It's where I met Dmarko Blewett who was hired as a bodyguard.

nope

Actually I had quite few pictures but lost them. We were waiting for the limos and he snuck up behind me and grabbed me. We ended up wrestling on the ground in our tuxes. He was having a blast. He weighed 235 right there and was solid. Yes I asked him
