I like OB non-applicator. It widens as it absorbs as opposed to lengthening and becoming very uncomfortable, if you know what I mean :P

Too funny, that is exactly what i use!!!!! As for the ones that tend to get longer, i thought i was the only one that thought they were uncomfortable.

Never had any probs with the "regular" kind, :) but would love to be able to use OB since I have to travel a lot and with all the clothes and gym stuff I always have to work to get the suitcase closed and keep from exploding into little pieces. It would be nice to just drop in that little box... :). I just found them kind of "awkward" when I first tried them, but maybe now I'll give them another shot.

Maxi pads are da debil. I don't need to use those except when I had a fibroid and bleeding increased 1000 fold.
I know a lady that had a 4 pound fibroid :P

I think the non-applicator ones require a skill to be learned. (Nothing worse than walking around with a halfway :P) In the meantime, I'm not throwing out the box of Playtex Pearls.

I will use the Always Thin pads (w/wings) too. Sometimes my super strong vaginal muscles accidently "pop" the tamp out when peeing. ::)

i used to hate it when women would flush those products in the restaurant. Someone would always come up to me and tell me the toilet is stoppped up. So i'd have to send someone in to clean it up

My husband is in the Navy and his job is what they call on a ship "Turd Chaser"...anyhow, there would always be that call that the womens bathroom (or whatever it's called on a ship) was clogged, so there he'd go searching for the problem...ALWAYS ALWAYS it was what he calls a little white mouse with a red nose. And, not to gross everyone out, but our house was built in the 30's and even though it has updated plumbing, our most recent call to the plumber was the cause of one OB caught in the roots of the pipes...NICEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I don't know. She had a lot of pain and bleeding for a long time and one day could not urinate. That caused her to finally go to the hospital where they discovered the fibroid was "lying on" her pee tube. :P They operated immediately.

Playtex & Tampax suck imo. I'd always have a mess, and when Id remove it, there'd be nothing on the tampon. They take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you won't want to go back. My best friend turned me onto those when I was 14. Haven't used any other brand since.

The bleeding period every moon phase thing lasts all your adult life then you've got the menopause (at approx 50) to look forward to, which is, apparently, 50x worse and lasts 5-10 years. I can handle it (provided I buy the best tampons

Okay this thread needs a little kick back on the cheery side.
So two guys in their twenties decided to do a backpack trip across Europe for summer vacation.
Being guys they were so very careful with their money and got stranded in the French country side
with only $10 left to their names. One guy turns to the other, "what the heck are we going to do, we still have three weeks of vacation left?" the other fellow grabs the $10 and shouts that he knows what to do while running down the street to the corner store.
A few minutes later he returns with a box of tampons. The first fellow looks at him and says
"What are these? Tampons! how is this gong to help?"
The second looks at him blankly
"What do you mean, with these things we can now go Horseback Riding, Cycling, Swimming etc..."

Why not, when my son was really small he came out with one in his ear and was telling me he was cleaning his ears. Too funny, then when I went into the bathroom to see what he was getting into, he pointed to all the pads stuck on the walls and door and said "look mommy...stickers". I don't think I ever laughed so hard in all my life.

Lol, I don't know any bowlers... I read it somewhere, along with how a Marine saved his buddy's life by sticking a tampoon into his wound to keep him from bleeding to death. Also, apparently maxi pads with wings are good for cleaning... you just wrap the sticky part around your hand and go...

It comes from an e-mail exchange between and mom and her marine son. He was getting care packages destined for female by mistake...
"My son said they had the most fun with Marine X’s package. He said he wasn't sure who we were sending the pack to, but the panties were size 20, and he said one of the guys got on top of the humvee and jumped off with the panties over his head and yelled, "Look at me, I'm an Airborne Ranger!!!!". He said one of the guys attached the panties to an antenna and it blew in the wind like a windsock. He said it entertained them for quite awhile.
Then of course, they had the tampons. When he brought this up my imagination was just running wild, but I let him continue. My son said they had to go on a mission and Marine X wanted the chapstick and lotion for the trip. He grabbed a bunch of the items out of his care package and got in the humvee. As luck would have it he grabbed the tampons, and My son said everyone was teasing him about "not forgetting his feminine hygiene products".
My son said things were going well, and then the convoy was ambushed. He said a Marine in the convoy was shot. He said the wound was pretty clean, but it was deep. He said they were administering first aid but couldn't get the bleeding to slow down, and someone said, "Hey use Marine X’s tampons". My son said they put the tampon in the wound. At this point my son profoundly told me, "Mom did you know that tampons expand?" ) "Well, yeah!".
They successfully slowed the bleeding and got the guy medical attention. When they went to check on him later the surgeon told them, "You guys saved his life". If you hadn't stopped that bleeding he would have bled to death. My son said, "Mom, the tampons sent by the Marine Moms by mistake saved a Marines life." At this point I asked him, "Well what did you do with the rest of the tampons?" He said, "Oh, we divided them up and we all have them in our flak jackets, and I kept two for our first aid kit".
PS. I'd rather use a swiffer too. :)

Of course we did. I'd not actually read it properly and now I have.
I'd never understood why tampons went all long instead of going sideways like they do on the adverts. & I have never been able to get one in without an applicator.
Like ~flower~, I figured it was my internal muscles and the fact that I did not have children (and when I have a cervical smear they have to use the smallest size instrument thingy).
It's not exactly a subject which women ordinarily talk about, so it's good, I think, to discuss this subject on a forum.
Thank you so much for the information in this thread (which really should run for 100 pages).
Unfortunately I still can't do the little ones that you shove in with a finger, just can't get them in. The only way I can get a tampon in is to lie on my back and I'm only able to use the mini ones with cardboard applicators. They used to come with plastic applicators, but I think they did away with those because people flushed them and they ended up as debris on the beach along with all the condoms.

I like OB non-applicator. It widens as it absorbs as opposed to lengthening and becoming very uncomfortable, if you know what I mean :P

i REALLLY hate ob non-applicator. It's just a wad of COTTON. I don't know how you are able to slide that in, it's so DRY.

They at one point had "coated" ones which made the surface more slippery. Not sure if they still make them that way?

and that is about the most ill-informed info i've ever heard from a female professional health gyno person in surgery. she ought not be allowed to give advice or even voice an opinion like that.
surely a super maxi tampon and a big pad if it's that bad would be more appropriate (or just call in sick !!!

When I was 13 and in the 8th grade, my girlfriend's little sister who was 11 and in the 6th grade started her period. Since their mom had died when they were both very young, and since they were both being raised by their father who neither of them wanted to discuss these types of things with, ...like the good big sister that she was "C" taught her little sister "L" all about tampons and how to use them, ...or so she thought. :D
One day a bunch of us were hanging out at "C's" house afterschool. We were sitting in the kitchen, when "L" comes down the stairs and says... "C, ...I don't know about these tampon thingy's. I've had it in for about 4 days now, ...and it's getting kind-a-soggy" :o
Needless to say, we all hit the floor laughing. It seems "C" forgot the part about telling her she needs to change the tampon every few hours

I realised when I got home and it was only lost overnight because I again tried really hard to find the string in the morning, gave up and made it to the doc immediately.
...I have heard stories about women who have put another in forgetting there was one there already, which sounds to me like the horror story of the gyno doctor who puts two up at a time. I always figured they were women who'd had lots of kids or something. (And to whom I'd still recommend a super tampon and a maxi pad),
but perhaps my comments can only be applicable to a childless girly like me who has a difficult time getting a mini one in and out.
Also I was on the pill for 13 years, from the age of 16 till I was 30, so had practically no period. I even moved it to Monday morning so I wouldn't bleed at weekends.
& I had no sympathy whatsoever for women who worked for me and called in sick with their monthlies. I told everyone else in the office that they had diaorrehea and then left tampons on their desk and in the washroom so they'd be truly embarrassed when they showed back up to work.

One of my funny childhood memories is the pads in the bottom drawer. My mum sat me down and told me all about it when I was 12 and those Dr Whites pads sat there staring back at me. Waiting for me to grow up.
I didn't get my period till I was 16. I had to take those pads to girl guide camp and back with me and I was the last one in my class to get my bleed. It was dire. But luckily I learned all about it from my friends. I remember helping girls in the gym shower and explaining to them what was happening.
I went on the Pill at 16 (immediately after getting my period) and I lost my virginity (wonderfully) that year too.
& I didn't grow tits till I was 17

I have a really gross BLACK tampon story that i love to tell people to gross them out, however i do not think some on here would appreciate it.

No, it did happen to me and now, 20+ years later i think my whorey dorey stories are funny and i love to tell them...i also love telling some of my hubbies whorey military stories...between the 2 of us, we can keep a bar rolling.
