From Mat himself...
Hi everyone...
Chris was nice enough to send me this link. I do not want to bore everyone, but will fill you all in a bit.
Last September, almost a year ago this week, I tore my pec. Thank God the tear was partial and from the tendon...not the bone. I had to have surgery twice. Once for the tear, and with my excellent luck, a second time due to an infection...I actually attended last years Olympia for Muscletech with a Pick line in...a permanent IV from my right arm to my heart. I had to administer IV anti biotics 4-5 times a day for 8 weeks...it was not a fun time, but I would not trade the lessons learned during that time in my life...
You see, I had decided to wrestle based some on a true enjoyment of the wrestling industry, but also due to the disappointment of my pro debut at the 2004 GNC...Basically, I ran away; something that at one time in my life I was a master at.
After the pec tear I had 5 months to sit, heal, and do a lot of soul searching. I love bodybuilding; more so the training that it takes to be a pro bodybuilder. The challenge of it all....In earning my pro card, year after year I dieted away muscle show after show...my fault as I am a grown up and should have known better than to do so...Now, after 2 years away from competing I am in now, at 2 weeks away from the Atlantic City, and 3 from the Olympia in the best shape of my life. The task? keeping it all together!...I am this morning 276lbs. and could drop water...then walk onstage tomorrow...it is a blessing for sure.
I still want to prove that I can pursue both genres...bodybuilding and wrestling...how? I am still unsure as I have stayed out of the ring while I prepare for these shows. Wrestling was and is so fun...time and my body's ability to hold together will light the path I take...with of course my reuqest of God's direction....
My goal in doing all of this was to stand on the Olympia stage. I set this goal at 12 years old...now 21 years ago in my life. I have been blessed and do not want to waste the opportunity to do this. The Atlantic City Show will dictate whether or not I earn this privilege this year....
Looking at pictures from the Europa and Montreal those close to me were frustrated that I did not opt to compete in these shows as well, but I like to stick to a game plan. I set this plan during my recuperation time and wanted to stick to it...Atlantic City...Vegas and perhaps the Euro tour?
Thank you all for your kind words; I cannot tell you what it means. I get a lot of IM's requesting photo's, but this will have to wait 2 weeks...the Atlantic City show...Pictures now while impressive? mean nothing 2 weeks from now. A lot of guys set themselves up by doing this?...then not keeping it for the stage? I would rather everyone see the pics, God willing, from the AC show and know I worked beyond hard for this!
I hope to see many of you in Atlantic City and Vegas. I already am booked in Vegas for Muscletech...now in my 8th year with the company. Please come see me and say Hello...this is why I started this journey so young in life. The chance to meet others and relay the lessons I learned a long the way. Bodybuilders...all athletes are getting hammered right now for a lot of the decisions we have to make in pursuit of greatness. I struggle daily with some of these decisions...but again trust God to light that path. Meeting all of you? takes away that negative slant we all constantly have to read about...it reminds me again of why I started this race/ journey.
Be well. Sorry for the scattered thoughts and any typo's...I am wiped out, but wanted to at least say Hi and commend Milos on an excellent board.
Mat DuVall
-
Duvall showed up onstage looking like he couldn't have won the Mr. Punyverse contest he was so small and depleted, looked like he was all of 210lbs. he's finished.

he had no back and legs, was smooth, yet had striated glutes, all he has are those synthol filled "strongest arms in the world" ::)
-
Mat will prove the haters wrong and show up in shape at the atlantic !
you'll see sarcasm ;)
I saw him last year at the canadian nationals and he looked huge
-
Mat competed as a pro when he was completely burned out & wasn't in a good place in his personal life. All that is over with. He can & will show his stuff at Atlantic City. Good luck to the man.
-
Why is he coming back? I love the heartfelt letter he wrote. If you've ever known him in any way, or (shudder) done business with him, he has the super hero power of being able to cry at will. guess it works on the ladies. all i'm sayin'.
-

no he won't, he's just another shit talking fraud who lies about everything from what he weighs to what he lifts, even Cutler made fun of him on a Muscletech video and said sarcstically, "well you know Matt has the largest arms in the world...supposedly" and then rolled his eyes right in front of him, hahahaha, owned.

it was on the Muscletech videos that they gave out when you bought a huge thing of Cell-Tech, Matt C. probably has a clip or review somewhere.

I wanted to see those video
I went ot the GNC at the mall and the fucker didn't want to sell them to me, I had to buy 100$ of muscletech products or something like that
needless to say, I told him to fuck off. I'm not going to pay 100$ to see a video

i saw a long clip somewhere last year can't remember where maybe bb'ing dungeon or something but it was hilarious because Jay is standing there at 290lbs. and Matt is like 240 and he's talking about having the biggest arms in the world while Cutlers are like twice his size, it was funny.
-
haha yes I agree that compairing Mat with Jay is somewhat ridiculous.
I don't like how Jay looks onstage but clothed or in a tank top, he is the most impressive guy ever
-
He should get contacts.
-
Returning for what?? To place 18th at every show again along with his other muscletech buddies like Aaron Maddron, Greg Kovacs and Jeremy Freeman?

agree
and what happen to those guys ??????
-
Matt was said to have the strongest arms in the world, nowhere near the biggest though. He says he could hammer curl 145lb for 9 reps in each hand

They're all bagging groceries at No-Frills.

According to the "Ad Report".

Matt DuVal and Markus Ruhl are the two W-I-D-E-S-T bodybuilders I've ever seen in person. Any idiot can see there's no synthol in his biceps. That is natural Coleman-ish shape. Ridonkulous shoulders and arms in that pic. Sure his chest and back are not the best, but would you prefer Kamali's chest and back with no arms?
Special "Team DuVal" Ed

wow he's big.

You all are fucking trippin!!! I have met Mat on several occasions and have came to the conclusion that he is a truly nice, sincere guy. The size and condition of Mat each time i saw him was extremely impressive. Plain and simple, the guy is freakin huge! I bet Mat will prove little negative hating bastards all wrong. Wait and see......

You didn;t see his pro debut then.

im glad someone said that.

I could not possibly make any excuses for my pro debut...one big reason I walked away from bodybuilding for awhile...I looked awful. I was flat, small, way off...due most to my not being as focused as I should have been at the time. I should not have rushed to the pro stage. All the same I did, and learned a great deal.
After my pec tear...I definitely could not get back in the ring for a while. It was an uncomfortable feeling when I tried to rush even that. Meaning I wanted to rush back into the ring, but had to listen to my body...My surgeon had said 18 months away from the ring, and went on to say 12 minimum out of the gym, at least training as I would like to...After 4 1/2 months I could not take it, and went back...just cautiously...the results will be seen in 2 weeks at the Atlantic City Pro show. Ironically, it is one year ago this week that I tore my pec...had I listened completly to my doctor I would not have this chance to compete.
I have always tried to explain that what I love is training. I do not love competing. It was a choice I made due to the time and effort I put into building my physique in a gym. Being in a gym for me is a unrivaled feeling...onstage?..I feel a little strange. All the same it has enabled me to travel all over the world and meet so many great people. This alone made it more than worth it...
As for the Muscletech DVD's?...it was an honor to be apart of...at the time it was filmed I had taken a 3 month lay off due to again the injuries I had before winning the Nationals...As much as I was at first un happy about being there?...the irony again is that I was motivated by another guy in that video who on those days was less than we are used to seeing...Branch. He had just had surgery on his arm, and had not been in the gym either...then? he came back to win a couple of pro shows...looking awesome at the Arnold...this motivated me to get past my injuries and focus on future goals...All the same the videos were
informative which is why they were made.
I hope in 2 weeks all will see what almost 2 years away from the stage...and some very tough training can do. Being Mr. Olympia?..not in the cards for me, but earning the chance to be on that stage?...I pray to do so. Be well.

Highly unlikely. Bottom line is he never faired well at any contest. No hate. Just facts.
-
I actually like Mat. Met him at the State show a couple of years ago and he was very polite. I was just shocked at how he looked in the debut as in off season he looked massive.

2003 NPC Nationals 1st place super heavyweights and overall champ is pretty good to me.

I have met Mat for dinner and drinks on several occasions and have came to the conclusion that he is a truly nice, sincere guy and very sensitive and will listen to you intently. The size and condition of Mat's cock each time i saw it was extremely impressive. Plain and simple, the guy's pole is freakin huge!
This blows Mimraw's gay shit out of the water. Whoa.
-
LOL ya know dude we should form a club called "Anal Rape Stalking Victims of Billy Mimraw." He's a fat joke. I've never seen so many roid up so much and have so little to show for it.
hahahaha, he uses the same old tired excuse of, "i'm a powerlifter, i don't care what i look like only what i lift", hahaha, monster delusions.

You make it sound kind of gay ??
-
Stavios, (everyone)...
No, thank you for being kind and fair...I read the board all the time, but do not like to jump in so much. Everyone is entitled to their opinion(s)...Some athletes get their feathers ruffled very easy, but I cannot argue with some of the criticisms of my physique...This is why I stayed in the gym for almost 2 years before returning to the stage. I just needed some time to step back...learn how to not always train so intense that I ended up taking steps back rather than forward....
There is no need to mislead about my weight, or strength...everyone will soon see me onstage again...God willing...back in a wrestling ring as well, and will see the benefits of my time off...
Being with Muscletech for 8 years now has been a huge blessing, and I want to go on record that they have many products I use and believe in...they have treated me so well, and stuck with me after my injury. The term, "bodybuilding's strongest arms"?....I did not choose, they did... I have always said there are many many out there stronger than I, bigger than I, etc...it is called marketing, and if people are talking about it?...good or bad?...it means they are paying attention.
