Here's your top 4 after just witnessing the prejudging...
Lee Priest, Andreas Frey, Voltan something, Sami Al Hadad. Probably in that order too.
Priest definitely the winner. He's on. Remember, Priest is one of the top 6 bodybuilders in the world if we go by Olympia placings. Andreas looks great! Condition--on. Has room to grow and fill out his frame. Voltan looks good too but I have Sami above him. Sami more in the mold of a Dex Jackson/Flex Wheeler.
The IFBB's Valentino Jabes also looks great. Rhino proved he's not out of place on a pro stage.
Kind of strange/disturbing/wierd thing... a top IFBB official and show promotor was standing outside the theatre before and during the prejudging.

Hes waiting to sack Lee
-
what NPC/IFBB faces were in the crowd?
-
who was that, weinberger? how many people were in attendance?
-
Want to take bets on whether this thread mentioning the official is removed?

Frey really looked amazing, had the presence of the old time bodybuilders up there, amazing frame and muscle popping out, really tight and healthy looking. Total package, looks like a young Gunter.
Lee will win of course, best arms and legs. Volton guy looked like almost exact twin of Frey but not quiet as pulled together. Sami was slightly smaller than the others but totally put together, great conditioning, likeable presence. OVerall great show. Rhino looked tight, arms and back were on, but was lacking in legs and probalby the worst glutes I have ever seen on stage, but hey is not a spring chicken. Still has the rhino smile the audience likes. There were three huge short guys in incredible condition, don't have their names, numbers were 15, 16, and 8...anyone help me here if you were at the show.
Audience was filled with your usually rag tag gym rats, guys off cycle but still wearing xxxl size t-shirts. and women with leathery skin and deep voices. Why do people insist on bringin little children to these shows and let them run around and make noise while they yap on their cell phones, totally annoying? They are not the only ones that payed 40 bucks for a seat.
-
who was that, weinberger? how many people were in attendance?
Imagine if all you had going for you was the possibility of maybe making money as a pro bodybuilder...then I think people can understand the chilling effect events like the above have on the athletes.
Has IronMan covered the PDI or the NOC? (I honestly don't know because I don't read it as much anymore). If Balik did, would the IFBB still sanction his IronMan Pro Invitational every year?
Before people knock the NOC and compare it to an IFBB show, that ISN'T the correct comparison. The PDI is starting out, so if you want something to compare it to compare it to the IFBB in the 1960s.
That said, Lee Priest in his condition tonight would be top-6 Olympia. Frey would probably make the top 12-15. Sami Al Hadad shows the most potential of all of them.

How many people in the stands?

How many people in the stands?
From where I sat in the fifth row, it looked like more than half, maybe 3/4s of the lower level was filled up. People were scattered around though, so maybe less? Night show should have more. Always does, even in the IFBB.
Sean Allen was onstage. Sean is a big guy. Looks especially good from the waist up. Like a Paul Dillett.
But every time they had a call out and Sean wasn't in it, he didn't look to happy. And a few times when they did call him out, he looked like he couldn't believe they were calling him out against the guys they were calling him out with. Hopefully I'm reading his reactions wrong, because they were kind of obnoxious and not professional, even for a guy who wants to win.
George Mairoano was one of the shorter thicker guys someone asked about. A complete beast. If he'd brought the conditioning here that he brought to the USAs he'd be top 6.
One guy was really thick too and freaky looking but had shoulders into which he had spot injected or used synthol and they looked bad, took away from his physique.

The only 2 I recognized were Toni Dee and Wayne's main man, John whose-last-name-I-can't-for-the-life-of-me spell.

Bongiovi?
yeah, lots of people spell it Bon Jovi.

How many does the lower level hold? If this is a 1500 seat total auditorium, figure the lower level at 900 or so? 3/4 full, but spaced out, so maybe half? 450 people? You figure 100 of those or so are comps for sponsors, guests, etc, so that leaves 350 paying attendees?
350 people.
In New York City.
Hell, in NY you can get more than 350 people to attend the grand opening of a lemonaid stand without breaking much of a sweat. 350 people is beyond pathetic!
MONSTER success, Wayne!

That might be him. I recognize him as a guy who used to compete, think back in the 70s maybe? Glasses, probably in his fifties now. Have met him. Nice enough guy.

Really then how do explain the Weinbergers show.

Sean always acts like a big baby...

I don't know anything about Weinberger's show.
You really should change your sig from "don't f**k with bears" to "don't fuck with spiders"... much more accurate!

Hi Goatboy. I want to be really clear before I reply to you that I am not "anti-IFBB." I am pro-bodybuilding, which means I will support the IFBB, the PDI, NABBA, and any other organization that allows our brothers and sisters to compete and entertains us. But if an organization and its officials are acting irrationaly, I'll point that out.
That said, when Weinberger started the NY Pro show people got in line on-line to bash him. Complaining that the show was held in a high school auditoirum (actually its a college auditorium and not paltry). Complaining that attendance was down. Complaining that from one year to the next the show didn't change, grow, get better, etc.
Know what? I've been going to the NY Pro since its inception and enjoying it EVERY time. And I will go to the NOC again and I'm sure I'll enjoy that too.
These shenanagans between the IFBB and PDI only hurt the athletes and the fans. And the fans, go to any show--PDI or IFBB-and where are all the young 18-23 year old guys in groups or with their girlfriends that used to go when I started going to the pro shows back in 1990? It seems like the mean age of a fan in the seats at ANY show is 40-something these days. We gotta grow the sport, and that means working TOGETHER.

Actually bears and spiders would be better. I might do that.

yea, Shawn Allen acted like a fool, he wouldn't stand in his place and kept walking back stage while other competitors were up on the dias. He kept trying to engage Lee in a conversation but Lee looked annoyed and kept his focus on respecting the competitors. Lee was a real class act, very much a professional. WHen Shawn came out for round 2, who ever oiled him up did a terrible job and his legs were shaking while holding poses. Thought he was gonna fall over. He seemed pissed he wasn't getting the call outs he thought he deserved. Can't stand cometitors like that.
Id say Frey has most potential, guy is only 26. Shoulders the size of a house and wheels to match. George Mairoano dude was packed with muscle, amazing wheels and really small waist, shaped like LEE.
Sami and Rhino need more confidence, but it was just the judging, hopefully they will bring it on tonight.

I'm not pro- or anti- any organization either, I just call things like I see them... and the way I see it, 350 people is pathetic for any sporting event, except maybe a little-league game.

how about cats?

Goatboy, sorry if I sounded like I meant you were pro-or-anti. Not what I meant. There are people reading this who will gloat if I wrote that the prejudging had thirteen people in attendance, and they'd probably be the same people who gloat every time someone bashes the NY Pro Show. That was my point.
And you're right...350 people is kind of sad, but again, attendance is down at all shows, the fans are getting older, and the in-fighting between the organizations can't be helping the situation.

GH or anyone how did the t-shirts look andget some pics of them on people

Didn't see any but wasn't looking.
Oh, and the blazers the judges wear appear to be darker than those worn by IFBB officials.
-
didn't see em selling any T's in the lobby, or for that matter not hawking any products. Kinda good in a way.
-
A little more in-depth for those who care before I head back to the night show...
23 competitors all together.
Jim Vest is a big lumber-jack of a man. Had he nailed his conditioning he would have placed much higher. People should watch him (and Sami) and be scared.
One guy had a really bad umbilical hernia and everytime he hit a pose I was waiting for his intestines to pop out through the rupture. Not nice to watch.
Steve Stinton looked very good, especially when he hit a pose. Conditioning on with this guy.
I wish I knew everyone's names.
Louis Castillo is an INBF (natural) athlete and all he lacks here is size. His conditioning and shape are on. For the record, I'm friends with the man and he's the only natural athlete I ever believed when he told me he was natural.
The guy with the spiky white hair who qualified last night drew a lot of applause, but not my type of physique. Last night this black guy with a back that reminded me of Flex Wheeler's in a way qualified but he's not on stage today.
Sami Al Hadad hits his poses fast and should hold them longer, let people get a better look. But he's dried out and has gotta be cramping up.
-
Oh yes, for the record...
I don't think the current incarnations of Vince Taylor, Vinny Galanti, TJ or anyone else who reneged on competing with the PDI would have beaten Andreas Frey, and Sami Al Hadad would have given them all hell too.
-
Top 5 in no particular order:
Lee Priest
Andreas Frey
Geoff Hargreaves
Sami El Haddad
Zoltán Vörös
Pic 1: Andreas Frey (Germany), Lee, Zoltán Vörös (Hungary)
Pic 2: Lee, Frey, Vörös, Hargreaves(?)
-
Fucking Lee's arms are unreal and Frey is a monster.
-
Tamali should have done the NOC!
-
Kamali wouldnt of qualified for the Olympia in this lineup. It looks like a great top five and good compeitors. While attendence isn't what he wanted, the show is decent.
Kudos to Steve Weinberger, a top IFBB official, for coming out and supporting his friend Wayne, the guy that introduced him to his wife many yearsa ago. That was nice of him!
-
Lee Priest was in great shape, hard to believe he had a staph infection and his shoulder cut open only a couple of weeks before the show.
-
no way kamali would place top 4 with this lineup... ;D
-
Why not ???
-
no way kamali would place top 4 with this lineup... ;D
That's why he didn't go PDI... he would have done shitty there, too, and been even more embarrassed.

Bash the attendance all you want, nobody cares about going to ANY pro show outside of the arnold and O. Even those events give away ass loads of tickets to fill the stands. If you think the arnold is a "sold out" event, you're crazy. There is a reason pro shows are generally combined with an NPC show. NPC pays the bills, period. Nobody comes to watch the pro's, sorry guys.
-
Lee priest is the best thing to come to big time Bodybuilding in many many years. Maybe not tomorrow or next month, but soon other bodybuilders are going to realize that they basically do this for themselves and the allure of competition. Bodybuilders want to compete...like anyone that partakes in a sport or game they are competitive. The PDI is given them another place to do this...and they should have the right, being that the ifbb does not have them on salary.
Anyway, good for Lee.....If I were a fellow pro BB I would be calling him up and showing my support to the step he took.
Not for nothing but a few of these guys are good bodybuilders...on any stage. sami has all the physique potential in the world. lee looks better then I've seen him look in many shows, very full and hard upper body, real thick balanced legs.
-

Very true. Probably barely a 1000 people would go to the Arnold or Olympia if it was a stand alone show with no expo or other things happening.

I still think webcast ppv is the way to go. Unless you're really into this crap, you're not gonna go see a bodybuilding show in person, but I think a lot of people might pay $5 or $10 to watch these dramas that are discussed on the boards play out. And you should be able to get a lot more money out of the advertisers too, since you're increasing their exposure by like a factor of 10 or 20.

bingo!
take away ronnie and jay and it will go to another level of disasterous! look at the lack of interest in the asc with neither one competing!
your avg fan does not give 2 shits about any show besides the asc and mr o and even those 2 shows need a rivalry, gaspari/haney, yates era was a downer do to the lack of a rivalry, colemen/cutler brought great interest back... once thats over they will have to wait again for a big one to develop!
plus it needs to be a white vs black guy! black on black, white on white the avg fan wont get enticed!

10 bucks on tv is better do to all the internet problems on both ends!
