Title: The fix was in!
Post by: rocket on September 30, 2006, 09:38:14 PM
Anybody else find it quite interesting that immediately during his speech, Jay goes into "company man" mode.

Were the IFBB looking for a more able, pro IFBB vocal Mr Olympia?

Stand by for 10 pages of conspiracy theories via 240.

Cue..... 240

Ronnie took the bullet so that the IFBB could look like the league "where dreams come true".

And they allowed him to be made to play the fool by probably encouraging him to play up the reigning champion angle.

The fact that Jay lost in 2001 but won in 2006 speaks volumes.  He certainly didn't have that kind of advantage tonight, and won.  We should have seen a Vic Martinez coronation tonight, if the champion was to fall and the mandate was to be enforced.  Dex, melvin, and Vic should have been top 3 in any order.  Ronnie AND jay have some seriously wide waists.

Despite that, it's chaos, so I enjoy it :)  Ron's been given enough gifts that his turn to get the short end of the stick was overdue.

But yeah rocket, I'm sure it was abundantly clear to everyone that the victory speech would have a decidedly anti-PDI tone.

OMFG . . . 240 made a post I agree with. hell has melted over.

can't believe the anti-PDI slant they took. "the IFBB is where you win the Mr. O."

are they really that scared of a tiny start-up?

Still, Jay deserved it from the back..

No Mr Olympia should win with that type of asymmetrical thing going on - despite it not being as obvious as Dorian.

Glad Vic got 3rd.

Hmm I agree.  Ronnie and Jay were both blocky but Jay was better than Ronnie.  It always has been Coleman/Cutler and I guessed they finished it.  Ronnie will never win another Olympia.  But if the bad guy shows up next year 10 percent improved then Jay better get off the gear and keep up the realtor gig.

As the new night time comparison pix CLEARLY show.  Jay Cutler was not even close to Ronnie.  Jay is a great pro BB and I'm sure after looking at the night time comp pix right next to Ronnie he will agree to those close to him.  Anyway, congrats to those that had jay and to jay himself.  It is a subjective game either way ya cut it.

Ronnie Coleman, the first guest to fail to appear for his scheduled interview on Pro Bodybuilding Weekly, loses the Olympia title. You do the math!

that was just symptomatic of the general problem w ronnie . . . not enough of a team player, apparently.

seems like the groundwork was being laid early on.

chick let us know early on that Ronnie was "injured" and not quite himself . . . while that statement appears to have been true,  the extent of ronnie's injuries were not sufficient to deserve the kind of attention they received. attention ronnie felt compelled to respond to?

Jay's a good bb, but was he good enough to win?

ah . . . not just another night in the "league of dreams."

Yes, Jay's quotes were extremely politically correct and obviously directed towards the PDI. That was pretty lame, actually. Is the IFBB that nervous?

It all comes around.  Ronnie got one in 2001 that he shouldn't have.  2006- If you follow the gut mandate, it shouldn't have been either of those guys.  I am happy to see the chaos this brings.

One loose end though.  Will Ronnie, perhaps upset, say a few things about the past 8 years that might makes news?

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm looking at HQ pics of both competitors and Jay did not beat Ronnie (from what I see). He tied him at best. When two competitors tie, the win should go to the reigning champ. I think the IFBB pulled a desperate move to stir excitement in a dying sport.

Jay has the better back, but that pose is more than just back.

thats true...but ya cant help but notice the obvious flaw. Unfortunately/obviously the judges couldnt look past it.

I knew that Ronnie was going to be in trouble as soon as I saw the back.  The difference between even last year and this year is staggering.  If Neo or Hulkster can pull up a back double bi from 2003, you will see that this win was more a result of Ronnie sliding "back" to mediocrity than Jay coming up significantly.  Ronnie was huge from the side and front, however his waist was also bigger.  To be honest, I had Vic or Dex winning in a legit contest, but I knew it would come down to Ronnie and Jay.  To me, Jay looked very average from the front and side.  This was as political a victory as there ever was.  However, to be honest, the Mr. Olympia has the better back and between the two Jay won tonight.  It is sad to see a great champion go down not by a better challenger, so to speak, but because of injury.  Hulkster, you rag on Dorian repeatedly about his imbalances; today, Ronnie is downright half as large on his left side as his right.  I believe this discrepency was too much to overcome.

The way I see it...If Ronnie lost because of his back and gut then Martinez should have won

I think in all honesty that this is one of the first times the ifbb have done the right thing, Ronnies a great bodybuilder but the massive flaw in his back just couldnt be ignored, i was actually embarressed for him having to get on stage with such an injury, the thing is IF it was between ronnie and jay can you imagine if Ronnie had won with that huge problem, that wouldnt have been right and i think everyone knows it, even hardcore Ronnie fans.

Ronnie wasnt at his best and he paid the price, simple as that. The better man won on the night.

There is difference between having a gut and a wide waist. Ronnie had a gut, Cutler has a wide waist.
The IFBB has a mandate for guts not wide waist.  How small do you think Cutler's waist is going to be at 5'8 280 lbs?  He stomach is flat and that's what is needed.

Basically Cutler just stomped a mudhole in the PDI and Demilia.

this is ridiculous..ronnie lost fair and square and everyone should admit this fact..ronnie was really off from his back poses.from the front coleman was just few percent better than iron jay but still it was really close...jay had coleman from the back..jays arms were as big as colemans..jays legs were better..coleman looked awesome from the side.jays mid-section was slightly better than coleman..ronnie owned him in the most muscular..jay owned him in side tricep pose..condition wise ronnie was more grainier but jay was bigger and and a bit harder..it could have gone either way..i don't see any politics..jay was definetly the better man.. ok so if ronnie would have won then the discussion would have been other way round..people would have said jay was better and he sould have won..then you all would go on bashing coleman that he won the olympia without a back and a tricep..then you all would have said ronnie is disgrace and jay was robbed like the way he was robbed in 2001..then you all would have said that how can a guy like jay whos back is better than coleman did not win mr olympia..then you all would have keep on tearing down coleman..come on people get real..it showed in almost every pose that jay was the better and more conditioned guy..just accept this fact and move on
JAY CUTLER IS MR OLYMPIA 2006...THIS IS THE TRUTH AND YOU ALL CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!PERIOD

Jay has paid his dues, done his homework, and deserved his win last night.  I also think he will be a far superior representative of the sport/activity of bodybuilding.  We all knew that when Ronnie's reign came to an end that it would be Jay to start the next reign.  The only question is "how long will Jay's reign be"?  He is still young by bodybuilding standards and he is too good to be a flash in the pan.

congratulations Jay!

The better guy won - I tell you what though - he looked a hell of a lot better last night than he did on Friday. Coleman smoothed out considerably.

jay's victory speech:

why was it not a spontaneous effusion of the "thank you jesus/kerry/mom and dad" kind, but rather a carefully crafted political statement?

was there a need for a more eloquent spokesperson that was met yesterday? I guess in times of trouble you need more than "Jay be smoking that crack again."

Dex can't speak worth a damn, can Victor?

is melvin anthony respected in bb circles?

the IFBB, a place where dreams can come true.

but you need a profile that includes a lot more than meets the eye.
