Title: How many women here are fitter than their significant others?
Post by: Al-Gebra on October 03, 2006, 12:58:54 PM
Knew this girl who was on the (a?) dance team when she was in college. she was always dating guys who weren't in the kind of shape she was. she told me that it made her feel better about herself.

so, i was wondering, what do women think about:

1. dating someone who isn't as fit as they are.

2. what happens when you're on a hike (or some similar activity), and the woman has to wait for the man to recuperate. (Happened to me when I was a kid . . . I participated in organized sports, but my friend's mom kicked my ass on a hike . . . she also kicked her son's ass, and he had been on the cross-country team.)

funny my wife is a runner also. I used to run with her but it got to the point where she was running and pushing the kid and talking to me and not out of breath..I had to stop..:)

My wife has always been a cardio freak, hockey, running, rollerblading, ect me I bang at the gym and for the most part gave up running serious after I left the corp.I Think its great if you can find someone who likes to stay active (whatever there choice is) because its just another thing you can share together.Unlike my brother who always complained when he dated a girl that he wanted one that worked out but when he met his current wife she was a runner...until they got married and she blew up and he stoped caring...sad really.

That being said I think its not allot different from any hobby, as long as you can be supportive of each other regardless of what you do it really is whats important.

I'm the one that looks like I've had 3 kids and not my wife!   :-\

She still looks like she's been training even though she hasn't worked out since our first was born.  She was a heptathlete in college.   :o  Incredible genetics!!!!!

i have to admit that fit women cause me some anxieties.

i love women who run b/c of their legs, but they can usually run me off my feet too as my body is not as efficient as theirs are when it comes to running.

then I start thinking about what is more manly, being able to squat a shitload, or being able to run ten miles like it was nothing.

welcome to my neuroses.  :D

I could never be with someone who doesn't stay in reasonable shape.  If I am expected to remain "pleasing" then so should he.   >:(

I have been with big muscleheads to average gym goers.

My preference now is to slighty above average gym goer.
  ;)

Oh well, im out of the running   ;D

if you weren't married and started running, maybe that would change!     :-*

Marriage is bad for the soul and running bad for the knees   ;) (that was a joke Stella)

Me too!  I have been struggling all my life.  When I was a kid/young teenager I was seriously skinny, then when I hit my older teens I ballooned out.  My biggest was size 11/12, smallest 3/4.  I am now between a 5/6 & 7/8 depending on the designer.  Man...I wanna be a 3/4 again, lol.

I am a 6 now.  And the 6's are getting looser.   At 5'6" a 4 would be pushing it and hard to maintain long term I think for me.   It's the legs that are the problem, need to lose muscle in them so the waist in the jeans isn't huge.
I'm only 5'3" and I know what you mean about the waists...but mine is due to my ass.  :)  lol

i am married to a former marine, she was in decent shape before she got pregnant with my son, but after the pregnancy(2yrsago) she has kept on with the sdame wieght and she saysd now that she wqants to try and get back into shape but i doubt she will. it really sucks that she won't at least trty. i am a very healthy guy i run workout 7 days a week and she just sits around. always breathing heavy and she has no desire to be active. i would say that i do not like bieng as much more in shape than her. but i can't be mad or say anything because she would take it as me not loving her or it would be my fault because i got her pregnant

Try involving her with some of your activities.  Mike and I go to the gym together every day (well mostly every day) and we go for walks every night for cardio which is nice because it's just the two of us and we can catch up on the days events.  :)

thanks alli really appreciate the help, she just wont do nit anymore, she won't even talk about it, she feels like i am looking down on her about it. (that and she has low selfesteem) she thinks that she is a slob, and no matter what i try she just gets mad, i hate to do it but she said something about a personall trainer at ballys and i think i am gonna get it for her, that way she doesn't feel like i am trying to be better than her or push her into it. and then i can work out my way, and she won't be hurt or offended, and i don't have to let her see how i truly workout, it's kinda a balls out workpout

dam thanks migs i never woulda thought of that one, it's worth a shot though, and just outta curiosity, whats the whole bks thing? it isn't like the squad or any thing is it?
Title: Re: How many women here are fitter than their significant others?

BKS is a band of brothers (that has a sisterhood chapter).  We pretty much created a gruop since we were always talking to each other on the threads.  UNlike the squad,we talk over many subjects and our vocabulary is larger than Pwned and Meltdown.

does walking count as cardio? . . . when it's hot, i'll drive five minutes to the gym rather than walk 'cause I thought your heart rate had to be at a certain level for it to up your cardio fitness level.

Depends how fast you are walking if it is 'cardio'. Nevertheless, as the basic premise of fat loss involves expending more calories than you intake, walking at any pace will serve to burn calories which will assist in fat loss. Obviously, putting in some effort and not strolling along like a turtle would be more effective.

what if your goal is to improve your cardiovascular fitness levels?. . . I'm not really concerned about burning fat.

Like mostly everything in the fitness field, that is debatable. I would say assuming you are reasonably young, reasonably in shape and we know you are male [so you say >:(] than some cheesy walking will do crap all to improve your cardiovascular fitness levels.

CQ is correct about the walking...it won't do much unless you're of an advanced age or morbidly obese.

walking probably does help people lose weight . . . I'm more concerned w being able to keep up w women who run marathons for fun.

I wouldn't say we "speed" walk, but we do keep a quick pace.  Just fast enough to sweat (from the walk, not the temp) and kinda jargle our speech.  We walk 2 miles in about a half hours time.  It was the only cardio Mike did to prep for his show and that with diet and weight training ... he lost 70 pounds in about 3-4 months.

i read somwhere that if you were to do a treadmill at a 5% incline and walk at about 3.5-4.5 it was the best thing to do. it supposedly kept your heart at a good rate to burn fat and not any muscle, personally i run 3 miles a day and walk 1-2 on the treadmill
