On PBW they announced a new award called "Achievement in Bodybuilding Media".
Here's a transcript from what they said on the show about this years winner, our very own RON AVIDAN!
"Were gonna do something we have never done here on this show….announcing a new award – and this award was created to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions in the area of using “new media” to provide fans with more ways to follow the sport. The individuals considered for the award are those of have paved the way and have helped create the model by which others have followed. - These are the “game changers”…the people who helped create the blueprint, during the technological boom. -- And guys, the inaugural winner of the award is a guy who created a website back in 1995 long before online bodybuilding communities were popular. A guy who managed to build the online bodybuilding community that all others are compared to. He is passionate about the sport….he cares deeply about its advancement….and his website “GetBig.com” remains one of the most visited online bodybuilding destinations in the world. –The man who created the website and helped revolutionize the bodybuilding internet movement, Ron Avidan is the recipient of the 2011 “Achievement in Bodybuilding Media Award”

Over the years, I have met a lot of people from the boards, from all over the world, and some of my very good friends too. Getbig keeps me entertained, happy, sometimes riles me up, but in the end, I still like to come back and work on it, check out the latest happenings and see what is up.
Most important, without various personalities who come here and post, it wouldnt be Getbig. Without many of you, some new, some very old from years past, there wouldnt be a place to visit. And it wouldnt have let me take pictures, write articles, and meet some of you who are in the supplement industry or not. I thank you all.
I have learned that in order to have balance in life, family, friends, work, play and getbig are all important. With every negative there are usually a lot more positives.
Thank you Dan for the award, it is very much appreciated. As I like to, I stay behind the scenes when I can, but I am also a big fan of bodybuilding (and always bikini and figure). As it should be.

There was no forum on Getbig in 1997...... ::) He didn't get one until 1999 and it was an antiquated one at that.
Ron had a board on Americanbodybuilding around that time. He can confirm what year it was. Maybe 97, 98, 99. I remember it was when I had a health food shop around the corner from the gym which was 96-99. Thanks for your input genius.

Actually, I did have a discussion board - but it was more for VIP and special guests, not a public board at the time. Checking out the past on the 'Wayback Machine' wont show it to you.

Interesting, I was using your chat room in 97, Ron, because that was the only thing available as far as live chat was concerned other than the slow ass newsgroups and Spellwins POS Elite Fitness site, however but I wasn't aware that there was a discussion board for VIP and special guest but I never knew you had a secret discussion board so I guess I was wrong.
But I am curious as to why you had a secret VIP board for??? Was it for American Bodybuilding employees or something or for vendors???

SO FUNNY that you mention the fact that at the time Getbig was started, it was the only place to get up to date contest info. I found getbig hunting around the internet trying to find out if Ronnie had won the 98 Olympia. I remember the morning results were posted, pacing around the office waiting for my computer to boot up and when I saw he had one I lamely brofisted the entire office. That is definitely a morning I will never forget!!!

Much thanks for what you do here Ron, it is appreciated by MANY. Sometimes the voices of the few drown us out, but largely we are all very appreciative.

No, Isaac is not gay, nor bi, nor anything but a die hard photographer and fan of the sports who happens to enjoy the opposite sex. He just chooses to keep his relationships private, although his close friends know who he is with. When he comes to Los Angeles, he stays over in the guest room, and my kids even call him Uncle Isaac once in a while. He is alos one of my good friends, us having a lot in common with photography, covering the events, and running websites.

Thanks, as Derik knows firsthand how Getbig has affected his life. Very nice seeing you and the rest of the crew at Metroflex. We were all impressed at that 585 pounds squat (12 plates) with Derik weighing 176 pounds. Pound for pound, Derik is one of the most admired and impressive hardcore training bodybuilder there is.

Good memory - it was always called Getbig, but that the time I also owned americanbodybuilding.com which redirected to getbig.com. American Body Building drinks decided to use it has a place for their members to come and learn about the drinks (we were and still are ABB distributors), but eventually, we separated the two. Have to give credit to Peter Parsons, who at the time liked that name the best. Peter left ABB at the time, and went on to work for Microsoft Games, eventually becoming a director for some awesome games, including Age of Empires and Need for Speed... among others.

Special friends, bodybuilders and others who needed information, but not out for public. Promoters info, contest questions, etc, more like what twitter is now (it was different back then) in terms of how it looked. And yes, there are some private boards here now too. One is for the Mods. Back training now and very consistent, have not missed a workout since April this year. Here is my latest photo, taken last week filming my 5th series of Muscle TV. Just turned 47, happy and healthy.
