Title: Lakers are done.
Post by: Quickerblade on December 08, 2012, 05:06:25 AM
The lakers are done, tired of hearing about "when Nash comes back" and "when blah blah" What did the Pheonix suns ever do with Nash in his prime.....exactly..
Pau Gasol is struggling with a knee injury, does not get along with the new coach's system, has Kobe blasting him in the media.

Howards smiling everytime his interviewed shows his a moron, Shaq smiled alot but he was winning.
Howards free throw woes is not the reason the lakers are terrible, Howard is not Dominating, ok he is coming off back surgery, tough luck, that proves my point the lakers are done..I see howard walking away after this year as Kobe is a terrible teammate, a winner but horrible to be around when your struggling.

Nash is injury prone at 38, when he got injured months ago they said he will be out for 1 week, its been about 2 months. Nash will be destroyed by just about every point guard at this point, Chris paul, Deron williams, Russell Westbrook, etc will annihilate Nash.

Kobe is going well, on his way to score more the Jordan but his Championship run is just about done and dusted, well with this roster anyway.

Interesting stat is everytime kobe scores 30+ the lakers have only won 1 of them games..Terrible.
Dwight howard is not a winner, Ron artest is hot trash, so slow, and all the steve nash hype is just that.

This is exactly what everyone was saying about Miami when then started off 8-9 after signing Lebron.  LA is down to their 3rd and 4th point guard, Pau is banged up and Dwight isn't 100% after back surgery.  When they get healthy and their 5 starters actually get to play together for a while they will be fine.

Kobe Bryant's eulogy has been written a bunch of times but he keeps coming back stronger.  If Pau continues to struggle he will likely be dealt for a guy that's a better fit.  Either way the problem will be solved.

Never mind Miami, Lebron is a better team mate then kobe, kobe tells his team that he needs to eat first, how bout setting up the best situation to win, his jacking up about 25-30shots a game, his hellbent on over taking jordans scoring total.
Lakers are done, if im wrong please bump this thread, Nash is overrated, Gasol has checked out, D'antoni is just useless and a terrible fit for this team.
I will never write Kobes eulogy, but his a cancer..Great player, great shape, great work ethic but has no trust in his teammates (cant blame him to be honest, ron artest is just a joke) then throws his teammates under the bus everytime he can, when his the one you cannot guard his own man.

D-Howard has no go to move, he has great strength and great athlete, of course the back is slowing him down, thats one of the reasons the lakers are done..

They lost at home to the Jazz.

They look pretty bad right now.  I can't really judge them till Nash is back and Pau stops playing like Pau GaSoft.

Hey BeachBum!!

I dont think Nash will make a difference, lakers have no outside shooters, Gasol has been struggling for the last 2 years, his numbers are declining. Dwight Howard is only seen as good cause there are no centres in the league like there was years ago. Howard is a turnover machine and is not dominant as people believe he is.

What's up Quick?  You might be right, but I want to see what Nash can do.  Meeks has been shooting extremely well lately.  Jamison can shoot.  But overall I agree they don't have great shooters.  It certainly doesn't look too good right now.  I'm sure Phil Jackson is finding this all pretty funny.

they hired a coach who runs the wrong style for the personnel on this team. phil jackson with the triangle would be rolling right now.

DR. Bus didn't want to pay phil 12-14 million a year like he was before, so he's paying 3 million a year to this coach which he will have to fire.

Im good BB, Im sure Phil is having a ball hahaha.
Ok lets see how the lakers go when Nash comesback, but how long do we give Nash to gain conditioning and get his rythym, if anything his going to be extremely slow at 39, i know age is a number, but i know the deron williams, russell westbrooks will have a field day with him.

I think Gasol needs to go to another team, Howard is out of his element. If we are relying on Antwan jamison's shooting to make the playoffs the lakers are really done.

till then will wait to nash comes back.

I say give Nash about 20 games or so with Pau.  Remember he won the MVP twice while running D'Antoni's system in Phoenix.  He can't guard Williams or Westbrook (or pretty much anyone else), but he is one of the best shooters in the NBA and arguably the best ball handler in the NBA.

9-13.

I don't think Nash coming back is going to make much of a difference. They simply don't have the right players within the coache's scheme. No outside shooting.

there done and dusted, they are bleeding, they have a terrible coach, Kobe scores 40 and they still lose.
they look lost out there, its just kobe isolating and going off and taking fadeaway 3 pointers. Props for playing at a great level at 34, 34 is not ols but oldish in the NBA but his looking great.

the rest are horrible, howard included.

Nash coming helps their outside shooting.

In any event, they're not losing because of the lack of shooters.  They're losing because their defense sucks, Howard cannot make his FTs, and they're down two starters.

The Black Mamba is playing lights out.

Not so sure about Howard.  Depends on how they finish the year.  Remember LA is the only team that can offer him a max contract next year.  Much more than any other team can offer.

Trade Pau while he still has value. Get a lower to mid tier PF in return along with some outside shooting off the bench. The Lakers bench is flat out terrible.

It's time for Pau to be shipped out.

Ron Artest has zero speed, no trade value at all, howard smiles cause his retarded, i dont know how you can smile when your team is below .500 and he had so much praise coming in, i would be a absolute monster.
Kobes most likely according to the recent espn interview is retiring in the next 2 years, and wants to eclipse Jordans scoring record.
Pau gasol should ask to leave, this team is going nowhere, best case scenario they make playoffs and OKC wipe them clean or the spurs do, no shot at all.

for the sake of my man beach bum i will give them a respect for beating the knicks on Christmas, lakers always lose on Christmas.

He does look miserable.  D'Antoni is trying to make him shoot three pointers.   ::)  If they don't make a championship run Dr. Buss should take coaching and personnel decisions out of Jim Buss' hands.  Should have hired Phil.

I stand by what i said, i know BeachBum thinks they have a chance, but if he saw Nash not play any defense at all he would believe the lakers are just dead weight.

Any other team would sack the coach, they keep him to save face, but its very possible to sack him if they drop 2 more consecutive games..this would be hilarious. Mike D is a asshole, he cannot understand that defense wins, even a netball team knows this.
Mike is running his players into the ground, playing them at way to many minutes.

Kobe is Kobe, players dont like him and dont feel good around him, Metta World Peace is not bad when his at his best, but taking to many 3's. Even Howard took a 3 in the game today (against Denver).

Gasol once again is mentally finished, he does need to play elsewhere or retire. When Mike D gets sacked the Gasol will be re-energised but its probably to late.

Howard is a bastard whiner, throws his teammates under the bus when kobe is not, he complains the team has no chemistry, i can tell you by telling you the media this it will fix team chemistry instantly (idiot)

my prediction sticks, the lakers are bonafide scrubs, a scrub team in the luxury tax

They are five games out with about forty-five to go.  Plenty of time.

They're still the most talented team in the Western Conference.  And they have Kobe.  No way I'd count them out of the playoffs.  But unless they fix that putrid D they ain't winning crap this year.

True of the Clippers.  The Clippers are deeper than the Lakers.  Not really true of OKC.

Regarding the Clippers, they're really one deep on the bench in terms of players who actually contribute a lot.  Odom, Hill, and Billups either haven't played much or haven't contributed much.  But on paper they're pretty deep.

I was thinking more of the starting five.  No more talented starting five than Howard, Gasol, Metta, Kobe, and Nash.  They're playing like a lottery team, even when healthy, but no question about the talent.

I understand your personal bias but it doesn't mean a thing if Pau is playing like shit, which he is. He's clearly on the back nine of his career. His prime years are over. And he's not comfortable playing in that offensive scheme. It clearly shows by his numbers. And now he's starting to become injury prone. Never liked him. He looks and acts like a bitch.

And don't forget about Eric Bledsoe on the Clippers. Very talented young player.

Would that be the same personal bias that said the Lakers are not a championship team and playing like a lottery team?

I don't think Pau's prime years are necessarily over.  I do agree that he is not good for D'Antoni's scheme.  He shouldn't be shooting three pointers.  He's not Dirk or Kevin Love.  And say what you want about him, but he has two rings.  He gets on my nerves when he goes into Pau Ga-Soft mode, but he's still one of the most skilled big men in the game.

Bledsoe for the Clippers is the one guy I was talking about who really contributes off the bench.  Barnes does too, but not as consistently as Bledsoe.

You think the Clippers have a more talented starting five than the Lakers?

Yes.....by a slim margin...By virtue of their youth and athleticism. I think you're overrating Metta too much. He still takes too many bad 3 point shots and he has unpredictable behavior issues.

It's debatable.  I can see an argument for either team (the starting five).

Metta does shoot too many threes, but that's largely been a function of D'Antoni's offense.  The whole team shoots too many of them.  But his value is on the defensive end and the toughness he brings to the court.  I like him a lot.

I'm hoping Jerry Buss goes back to Phil and begs him to take over the team.   :-\

Signs of life?  The Black Mamba is still a beast.  He can do whatever the heck he wants.  He could lead the league in scoring or assists.  He can be a lock down defender.  He's clutch.

I hope the rest of that team steps.  They have the talent.  I hope they can have some success in spite of playing for D'Antoni's no-defense-having-seven-seconds-or-less scheme.

Retarded is right.  Making friggin Pau shoot three pointers.   ::)  Kobe said they're an inside out team yesterday.  Imposing his will on D'Antoni?

And he's coming off the bench.  At nearly $20 mil a year.

Trade Dwight now while you can still get value for him.

There is no way he re-signs with L.A.

He plays with no heart out there.

What's the point of putting this talent together if they suck as teammates? Do they want to go down in history as the most talented starting five NOT to ever make the playoffs?

Trade him for who?

For a Lopez from the Nets and some outside shooting, possibly. I think Howard would be more likely to re-sign with the Nets. But the Nets now probably feel they can get him for nothing after the season.

I just don't see Howard re-signing with L.A. He doesn't look comfortable with the spotlight and extra attention and expectations.

I'm not sure the salaries match.  The talent sure doesn't.

He can't get a max contract anywhere else with the fifth year.  I don't think he'll pass up the money.  But anything can happen.

Really....check his stat line....18.6 pts, 7.3 rebs and 2.2 blocks...not to mention a 74% FT

Maybe not as talented athletically, but fundamentally?? Lopez is way better. And younger. (24)

Lopez and maybe get a 3rd team involved to get a scorer and a post player.

Overall...no. But fundamentals? Lopez has the upside to have a more rounded game than Howard. He reminds of Tim Duncan a little. Howard's strengths are his athleticism and defense. And he barely has a post game, if you can call it that.

Can't argue with your comments about Howard. His post game stinks.  And I never thought I would ever see anyone shoot FTs worse than Snack O'Neal.  I was wrong.

Kobe plays the 2, so he shouldn't have to be a facilitator.  In spite of that, he has lead the team in assists pretty much every year as a starter, so this notion of him not sharing the ball is not accurate.

Thanks mang.  They have really stepped up defensively.  Howard has been playing extremely well on D.  Metta is playing really well on D.  Kobe is playing as well as I've seen since the 2000-2003 championship run.

But they are still a ways away from looking like a championship team.

Not looking good for LA.  They have to win out (five games) and Utah has to lose at least once.

Check out this stat:

Craziest Steve Nash-Dwight Howard stat you will ever see
Mike Foss, USA TODAY Sports
April 4, 2013

Dwight Howard has been horrific from the free throw line this season. Howard is 314-for-646 from the line (49%), missing 332 free throws.

That's how many free throws Steve Nash has missed in his entire 17-year career.

Winner: Steve Nash.

322 missed FTs lifetime.

If he shot at least 60% he'd average 25 points a game, easy. It doesn't seem like he wants to work on making it better.

I'm sure Kobe is plenty pissed about being almost 35 years old and not having a playoff season in his golden years. Howard won't re-sign. He can't handle the pressure of playing in L.A. He likes the limelight but he doesn't really want it, either.

It's an absolute waste of a phenomenal year by Kobe.  Best I've seen him play in years.  The team hasn't been healthy all year and I don't think the starters played together for even half a season, but still a waste.

I doubt Howard leaves.  He's not going to leave that fifth year on the table that no other team can offer, plus the increased endorsement money that comes with being a Laker.

Sucks for him to get this injury in his golden years. He may be re-thinking about retiring after next season. Because it will take him probably a year and half for him to get back to form.

Was he playing too many minutes for this injury to happen? I think so.

He walked off the court.  Kobe is a stud.

I initially thought the heavy minutes and foot/ankle injuries were to blame, but the more I hear about these kinds of injuries, the more I question whether those were the causes.  Seems like a freak injury that happens to young and old.  Non-contact injury.

If anyone can come back from something like this, it's Kobe.

No doubt he can come back from it. But does he want to work hard enough to come back only to play the last year of his career? What kind of team will the Lakers be? Kobe is to receive 30 million in salary coming off a major injury. Should be interesting how it pans out. But it sure sucks to see a superstar go down like that when he worked so hard to get his team to the playoffs.

I'm curious to see how the Lakers respond and play. For one, Dwight is going to see a hell of a lot more touches on offense.

I don't think there is any way he walks away.  He was playing the best BB I'd seen since the Shaq days, and his game had already evolved to being less reliant on playing above the rim.  This is the same guy who added a new move or shot to his game pretty much every offseason (the Duncan backboard shot, Dirk one-legged fadaway, the Dream Shake, etc.).  He's going to come back with an improved outside shot and some other component that will allow him to play at an elite level.  That's my guess.

I'm really interested to see how Howard responds too.  If Nash comes back, he'll actually have a better supporting cast than the one he took to the Finals while in Orlando.

And I really want to smack D'Antoni upside the head for benching Pau (and trying to turn him into a three point shooter).  He has been balling the last month playing down low.

That's debatable. We're talking about a 39 year old Nash and a weak bench. If you think Steve Blake is gonna score like that every game like against San Antonio, then that's wishful thinking. Jamison is still a decent player but he is way past his prime. Artest is coming off a knee surgery too.

I agree it's debatable.  The Lakers have been decimated by injuries.  The worst season I can ever remember when it comes to injuries.

Here is what Howard had in Orlando:

Rashard Lewis
Hedo
Raefer Alston
Pietrus
Courtney Lee
Jameer Nelson
Reddick

I see it this way:

Pau > Lewis
Metta - Hedo (probably even)
Earl Clark/Blake > Pietrus/Lee
Nash > Alston/Nelson

I don't know what Blake is going to do going forward, but he has been playing extremely well the last month.  Very impressive.

How about this:  if LA beats Houston tomorrow they're in, get the 7th seed, and play SA in round 1.  Much better match up than OKC.

Very interesting. No Ginobli for SA either. Dwight Howard has to be the main go-to guy. Time for him to grow a set of balls and get mean out there and be the man. Just dominate. He can run circles around Duncan in the post.

I felt the same until a friend of mine did it.  He did it for the insurance money for his kids.  (At least that's my theory.)  I'm a lot more sympathetic about the whole concept now.  I saw my friend about a day or so before he killed himself.  Looked fine.  Normal.  But he had to feel like he had nobody he could talk to.  No help.  Must have been pretty dark in those final hours.

I agree that overall it's often a selfish act, but you never know what despair and depression can do.  Well, actually it kills people . . . .

I hear you but I still think it's a selfish chickenshit thing to do, especially if you have children. I had a cousin who did it and left behind four kids. Anger has not yet given way to sympathy yet and it's been years since it happened. He left behind a good wife who was a great mother. Still is.

I see your side of it as well though. Depression can kill people. But you got a find away to let your survivalist mentality take over and dig your way out of that dark hole.

Anyway...Nash out again with the hamstring issue. Not looking good.

I like the quote I've read in several places:  permanent solution to a temporary problem.  Still, you never know what is going on in someone's life or in their head, whether it's clinical, etc.  Some people are stronger than others.

The Lakers injury-plagued season is so bad it's almost comical:  Howard injured.  Pau missed a good portion of the season.  Nash has been injured all season.  Blake missed over a month.  Jordan Hill missed the season.  Metta had surgery.  Kobe out.

Kupchak has a lot of work to do this offseason.

Don't underestimate the power of money.  He will leave millions on the table if he leaves.

That said, I am glad the dreadful Laker season is over. They were snake bitten. Worst injury-plagued season I've ever seen with them. Very disappointed in Howard getting himself kicked out of the game when they were already missing Kobe, Nash, Metta, Blake, and Meeks.  A real punk move.

Mitch Kupchak has a lot of work to do.

I disagree.  The starting five of Howard, Gasol, Metta, Kobe, and Nash started something like seven games together.  When they started to get healthy after the All-Star break, they had one of the best records in league during that stretch.  Then the bottom fell out again.
