creatine + caffeine?
« on: October 07, 2006, 10:31:31 AM »
I have been taking creatine for years now in my morning coffee and now a new container I bought (from what I am told is a good company) tells me I am not supposed to mix my creatine with my morning coffee because it negates the effects. It is the most sugary thing I eat in the day. Is it really true that caffeine somehow diminishes the effects of my creatine?

For Creatine to work you need to provide a way for you body to transport it into your cells. This is reason they say to take it with dextrose ( Grape juice ).  Coffee tends to dehydrate you, so in effect it would limit the benefits of creatine.  This doesn't mean you won' get gains, but the gains would be much greater if you were to ditch caffiene when using creatine to builk.  This advice is from my own experience with Creatine and Caffiene, and Creatine and Ephedra, and Creatine and ECA.  Creatine and ECA in my experience just made me sick in the gym. Way too much lactate in too short a time span.

Another reason grape juice is advised is the fact it's not very acidic. Taking creatine with e.g. orange juice results in reduced effectiveness due to the higher pH.

Personally, i take my pre workout creatine with either water and sugar or  caffeine-free green tea.
