Now I'm TRUELY CONFUSED!! (RE: Nubret's routine)
« on: December 05, 2006, 11:01:51 AM »
Just when I started a routine that seems to give me decent gains - one of the old school Ironagers (the 1 and only Surge Nubret) comes on and throws up a routine that's to the exact opposite of the style I'm doing now ??? Info from the great is appreciated but his 8-15 sets with 10-15 reps\set, 2hr long workouts and each body part twice a week (WOW!!!!!) just looks like a recipe for serious overtraining for me (note for my body-as I overtrain just doing HST) - I'll stick with MaxOT for now as it works good but I might try his hour long ab training for cardio - as the treadmill is some boring shit to do first thing in the morning. What are you guys' thoughts on his seriously high volume approach to training?

Didn't he just do one exercise for bodypart but do 10/15 sets at it?

Different strokes for different folks.  I'm sure Nubret's program has it's merit's even though it's pretty much the exact opposite of what I do but I don't even come close to the results he's gottne with his stuff.  I just don't find that type of routine practical, I've got kids, wife, a job, school and my wife works and goes to school so I can't be in the gym that long.  I do what works for me, it's all trial and error.

Everyone is different and not everyone has the same hormone levels in their body...

Genetic greats can do all sorts of different programs and still grow. On that basis what he does can be misleading to others.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the volume he did was very much the norm in the 60s & 70s. Today's training might be more effective for the majority. Each approach should be tried and the results compared.

Just one more way to train, not necessarily the most effective.

Yeah I think it would just take me to long to figure out what weight to use that I can accually get decent workout from that many sets and reps - how to balance between whats to little or what's to much - plus I'm a PhD student married and have lab and teaching obligations. My saving grace is that my gym is just a 5 min walk from my home and it's open 24hrs. But MaxOT has been working good for me so far - good results that are progressive in strength. But I will give the 1hr ab session a try

Stick with any program till it stops working, obviously.

I think a nice (and shorter) variation of 70s volume training is to do the GVT 8 x 8 or 6 x6 for one exercise only per muscle. It's a form of volume but doesn't take as much time considering that it's only one exercise/muscle.

The 1 hr. ab session's worth trying as an alternative to cardio.

it you dont go to failure you might be able to hang with the volume. but who cares how serge trained, we know for a fact that people get great results on many different programs.

Empty "Bluto" post as usual nothing more than wasted server capacity.
