getting out of breath
« on: July 11, 2009, 05:12:24 PM »
Hey guys
I starting to notice that I was getting out of breath doing everyday things like walking long distances, walking up long flights of stairs. I thought that it might be a cardio thing. I've been doing 25 minutes 3 times a week with  low intensity on the bike. I noiced that it didn't really help in fact it just killed my legs

is there a way to work on not getting winded / out of breath? I do have a little asma when I'm running full out.

thx for the replies

If your fat then that will do it but I would get a checkup with a cardiologist just to be safe.  That is not typically normal unless you are VERY out of shape.

You are simply unfit.

Low intensity? Get a grip son and get some high intensity cardio or some interval training scheduled, depending on what you want to achieve ( i guess just a reasonable level of fitness) this should take no time at all to help you.

My former mailman was getting out of breath when he walked up hills etc...stuff that never had bothered him before.  Eventually he went to the doc and he found that he had some blockage in his heart and needed heart surgery.

Hope it's nothing like that but if you used to have no problems you may want to head to the doc.

+1 here...don't know your stats or age but worth getting checked out. Off season (rugby) I do almost no cardio and just lift heavy (which also winds me and makes my heart pound) but I don't get out of breath walking.

If you really want to improve your lung capacity and cardio ability...swim. Sprint down the lane, slow stroke back and repeat for 30 min. It will kick your ass (and shred your back)

You know your body best...you should make the call whether or not it s you simply being out of shape or if there are other underlying medical conditions causing this.

Personally, I would probably be paranoid and get a checkup with the doctor regardless.

Anyway, your "low intensity" workouts don't seem to be doing much for ya, so why don't you up the intensity a bit (or a lot)?

People with questions like this need to consult with their physicians.

We can speculate from our empirical data, but we aren't running EKG's and blood panels.

Get a professional opinion, and then get back to us.

I could go miles with that, but... ;D

Do you smoke?  Any other health issues?  "dyslexic" is right, some questions should be taken to doctors, not to the internet.

I get out of breath easily if I'm training hard at the moment, the muscles just just fatigue easily and require lots of oxygen...

Might be asthma.  I have asthma and even if im lean, my breathing bothers me if i dont keep up on my cardio (which is treadmill, 1/2 hour, at least 6mph after warmup working up to 8-9mph depending on how im feeling).  I take Advair which tends to help.

Fuck him.  I mean really, who makes a thread as serious as this and doesn't give anyone a follow up on his health?  It sounded very serious and I would have hoped he would have had it checked out by a medical professional.

Hey guys
I'm doing better now.. I got checked by a doctor and he said that my asma mostly is acting up on me. I just have to do more cardio to reverse it.
