Lil' Stella
« on: March 08, 2007, 06:58:00 AM »
Heres a quick update on Lil' Stella for ya (if you care)..

Wifey and I heard the heart beat on Monday! Lil Stella was moving around a good bit according to the good Doctor. Shes at 13.5 weeks and all is well! I'm happy to report wifeys heartburn is getting much better, she not as wiped out at the end of the day and is generally feeling better all over. The bitchin has slowed a good bit too  :D

Quick question for you Lady's that have had kids. What are your feeling on the early blood tests to screen for things like Down syndrome, clef palette and things like that? Most people have said all they do is make you worry for 6 months only to find out your baby is fine since the rate of false positive is so high. Opinions?

Depends on how you would respond to the results. Don't quote me on this but the risk of Down's syndrome rises to about 28% after a woman turns 32. If there's a family history of any serious disorder testing should be done as well.

Thats how we feel Doc. I dont think we would terminate the pregnacy if we did find anything wrong anyway so we think we might just skip the test. Wifey is 32 and her doc doesnt feel the need for genetic screening since she has no family history of problems. So, we might just skip them rather than worry for 6 months.

Thanks

Thats great Lord!!  Sounds like everything is on track! She has made it thru the hard trimester...it should be smooth sailing from here until the 8th month.  Thats when the swelling, water retention, heartburn, sleeplessness, cramping, and other "non mentionals" begin.  So you have a few months to prepare.  Thats when you will be needed most!!  ;)

As for the genetic screenings, Bob and I went for it even though I was in the lowest percentile on the scale.  It was nice to see our baby in 4d as well.  We did ours at 16 wks (i think) and it was interesting.  All they do is prick her finger (your wife) for a few drops of blood, and do two types of ultrasounds.  One to check the size of the neck and spinal column, and the 4d to check the palate and facial profile.  If your ins covers it....I would go for it. The likeliness of anything showing up is seriously LOW!! But, knowing if your child will be born with a problem, you can prepare yourself mentally and emotionally.  I was told the age is 35 for the increase of DS and other genetic problems.  But again, even that risk is still low.  Do it just to see the baby again!!  Thats why I did!!  I never missed a chance to see my little pumplin moving around, and see her little heart beating.

And don't forget LH, ...as soon as the baby starts tap dancing on her bladder, she'll be in & out of the bathroom.

This will NOT be a good time to forget to put the lid down, ...you might lose a body part or two.  :D

LH, Ignore Judy, LOL! She's obviously on some stuff. :)

You don't seem like the type would would marry someone too stupid to work a toilet seat. Let's face it... if you're too stupid to work a toilet seat, you're probably too stupid to take care of a baby. :)

My Dearest Dr. Kaje,
1st., ...it is Judi with an I, ...not a Y  >:(
2nd., ...it's not a matter of being too stupid to work a toilet seat,
...it is a matter of being too pregnant, and too irritable to have to do so.  >:(

Toilet seats carry germs. Pregnant women with vulnerable fetuses should NOT be unnecessarily exposed to germs!

I can see what your bedside manner is like, ...you're probably all cold instruments ...and no KY  :o  hrmph   :'(

I hope, for my sake, you never meet my gf LOL!

Let's just say she has some embarrassing examples of my lacking bedside manner from work.

Besides, I'm just trying to lighten up your droll Canadian life. It's cold up there, LOL!

For you, I'd break out the KY warming mist. :)

Ya, it's pretty cold alright! We were at minus 30 the other day, ...but we have a warm front coming and the thermometer is suppose to go all the way up to minus 5 degrees by the weekend. I can hardly wait!  :D

Plus i'm slightly pissed. we're throwing a huge shin dig in Vegas this weekend, and the lovely 60 day delays at our passport office means...they're partying in Vegas without me.  :'(  {sigh} There have been many a March holiday ruined by this new legislation requiring passports between our countries. The normal 7 - 10 days for your passport, has now turn into 60+ Right now Ontario is working out a compromise with new enhanced driver's licenses. The economic hit to all the border states is making the Feds want to talk.

And of course, ...our snowplows were out in force again... doing what they do best... Gotta love 'em ::)

Hey gang,

Thanks for all the advice!! Wifey and are are really on the fence about the test but we are leaning towards not having it done. Ive heard to many horrible stories about  false positives to think its a worth while test. I think we are still going to have a sonogram done in early April to see little Stella for ourselves though. Maybe at that point if we see any problems we can go further with some tests.

There was a woman complaining about her family... Bear in mind that I was probably hungry with low blood sugar, etc... Offered her money for gas and suggested she burn the family to death in the trailer, except her daughter.

Sure, but only a little bit. Too much takes away from the experience :)
