That line was supposed to say "my wife won "money" not "my"  ;D in an NPC show. I think that the laws are more clear now Bob so I just wonder how this will pan out when it comes to future episodes dealing with amatuer vs pro status are far as the NPC is concerned. THanks

Back in the day,the AAU stripped Ken Waller of his amatuer status because he accepted money for doing an ad for the old Bullworker exercise apparatus.

He then competed in the IFBB.

AVBG,

I've always been freelance. Somehow I got pegged a "Company Man" but unless someone is going to show me some serious paper, I'm going to do whatever I want for whoever I want. Unlike some peoples in this biz, I have a real job. The truth is that I had offers from a few different magazines/websites to cover the New York Pro and I went with the two who made things easy.

There are two types of people on this site...guys like you, Ron, 240, Adonis, Lift, ThisisKeith, Garraeth, Blockhead, and myself who love bodybuilding and want to make some money doing what we enjoy, and the ones who lack the ambition or are too consumed by self-loathing to try.

There are tons of talented people on this board. If we put our collective heads together, we could launch our own product and crush the "man".

Ed, you wanna hug it out? :-*

swoody likes to talk in 3rd person.

Give that 3rd person crap up, "Big Sean".  Not even the best bodybuilders that ever took the stage (Haney, Coleman, etc, etc, etc) talk in 3rd person... time for a reality check, cause this 3rd person shit is delusional as hell...

To my understanding, when you compete in another "professional" organization for prize money you are no longer considered an amateur. You then have to sit out a year in order to achieve your amateur status again.

Stan McQuay placed 2nd in the 2000 Musclemania Pro and won the 2001 Musclemania Superbody Pro while also competing in the NPC (before, in between, and after those pro events)

Derrick Brown won 2003 Musclemania Pro, then competed in the IFBB North Americans

I'm sure I could come up with a few others

You need to clarify yourself on this one a bit more. The NPC can not suspend anyone from competing in another amateur org. It's a law. Now, since this was a pro org. Then it gets a little more complicated. I was not aware that the NPC had rules governing professional athletes and there becoming amateur again based on a suspension???

Believe it or not a previous precedent was set on this "pro org back to the NPC issue."
When the IFBB started to have pro fitness, they allowed the gals who has been in other organizations to return to the NPC and earn an IFBB pro card. Sadly, the PDI is going nowhere fast and I think that after a year or so suspension, it is a good idea to let former PDI guys come back to the flock.
Bodybuilding is a great sport, but, it is too small right now to split up the pie.

it took 16 years for the IFBB to establish itself, from it's first contest in 1948 till the time the IFBB Universe became somewhat legitimate in 1964

What is he leaving.  He doesn't have a contract with them does he.  If he does I think it states he can go compete with any other organization he wants.  Not sure how he placed in whatever PDI shows he did but if he won any money I don't think he can compete in the NPC which is an amateur organization.  But in any case it isn't that big a news.

Nice brush off, Keith.  Fact is people are leaving the PDI.  Lee Priest retires.  Now even your fat ass could place in a contest standing next to Jack London....hit the treadmill homeboy!

Depends on what orgs. you are talking about when you say they "allowed" the girls to come back. If they were'nt pros in these other orgs.  then they had and still have no choice but to let them compete in the NPC.

If the NPC is truly an amateur organization
how do they allow their athletes to make money from sponsorship deals, guest posing,
video sales and other questionable activities. -- not begrudging anyone from making a buck - but nothing seems to be in black & white in the political landscape of bodybuilding federations as far as the "rules" go

the classification of amateur has no meaning any more.   we have professional basketball, hockey and baseball players competing in the Olympics.   The US Olympic Committee pays athletes in the lesser sports to train all year round.

Not too long ago, using your muscles to make money would get you a life time ban from the AAU.  That included being paid for photo shoots, even working at a gym.   Every top amateur today would be considered a pro.

If the NPC has anything in their bylaws about amateur status, they could not enforce them now because there are too many examples of where they did not enforce them in the past.

Was it LISA LYON that was suspended for posing nude for art photographer Robert Mappelthorpe ? and I remember a female bodybuilder contestant being disqualified for inadvertently bending over to showcase her butt during her posing routine in a national level show(NPC)- this woman was devastated - would think such heavy handed rulings today,  would result in a lawsuits

DQ'ed?

I'd give her the trophy for making the show interesting.
