rubber bands and hypertrophy
« on: September 18, 2007, 03:33:37 AM »
Does adding rubber bands or chains to the bar increase hypertrophy? The men from westside barbell seem to do this a lot and it has been said that it is not uncommon to gain 30 lbs. in your first Westside year....

Each can if BB'ing reps and limited sets are used. This is very advanced training, meant for men with a lot of hands on heavy lifting gym experience. Do not think of buying either bands or chains unless you know how to use them to the fullest advantage. Some of that stuff is a lot of bucks. Either is bested preformed in a power rack, standard racks, "A" frame, etc. And with good training partners to spot. If the need is great for muscle mass and power than you may consider joining a PL'ing gym in your area. Or at least get around guy's who may have a little experience in that style of training. Good Luck.

Princess L is correct. It may be compared to buying lifting equipment at WalMart vs buying it at WestSide BB Club. Lifting bands and chain training are serious stuff. Good luck.

No necessarily.  We use bands to teach new guys on our team how to squat properly.  Personally, I think the only problem with thge bands are that guys want to add them to everything, and dont use enough straight weight with their lifting.  They get too caught up in "advanced techniques," and forget the basics.
