On a serious note, I looked up Dane Cook after the original Carlin thread, Id seen him in movies before but never his standup.I watched 2 10 minute youtube clips and didnt laugh once, I wondered why the audience was laughing as I couldnt see anything funny.Is this guy really the biggest thing in American comedy at the moment?Is it some fratboy thing where someone decided he was cool so the rest of the sheep followed?

carlin LOVED hedberg, by the way. he once saw mitch perform live and said "that blind guy was amazing", cracking on the fact that he has a tendency to stare at the floor for an entire performance.

izzard is fantastic, too. Dress to Kill on dvd is great, but the audio version is weak.

i happen to like comedians that can be funny without being crass...

Relax my cranially-engorged friend. She just goes around screaming 'vagina' and 'fuck' a lot to create a reaction is what I mean. Take that schtick away and there really isn't anything left.

Still you have to admire the degree of brainwash Dane had to go through to actually believe his pathetic act is anywhere near funny. It's like a sociological experiment, only that for some reason there actually are people who think he's funny.

I agree, I think the whole thing's a mindfuck because he is NOT funny.  Cook's just really animated and it seems like what he's saying would be funny because he has everything but the actual humor down pat.

The problem is, you just can't fake funny. The harder you try, the more pathetic you look. And Dane is trying very hard. The part I don't get is why there are people who are actually willing to pay for this embarrassing act.
