Starting Strength (book review)
« on: July 23, 2008, 04:54:04 AM »
Somebody loaded this up as an ebook but i don't remember who it was.

I want to say thank you!

I started reading the book after it slept on my PC for a few month and i have to say it's awesome!
I finished the first chapter about squatting yesterday and it was great. The writing style is witty and very entertaining but the information it provides is pure gold.

I couldn't help but getting up during reading and try the squat again and again, and i realized i have made quite some mistakes until now, or lets say i can still improve my squatting.

can't wait to start the second chapter tomorrow.  ;D ;D

The book is a gift from god... two gods to be exactly(Mark Rippetoe, Lon Kilgore).
Can't remember who uploaded it, maybe overlord or slavboy?
Book made me realize how shitty my form and exercise was - basically I'm starting anew.

Props to the uploader.

Just proves to show how very little you really knew about weight lifting in the first place.

Just think you and _bruce_ didnt even know how to execute a squat up until now.

lol, true!

I am for very strict form and correct exercising from the start, actually my first gym was a medical rehabilitation center and i only trained with physiotherapists. I thought i knew a lot on good form, but this book has brought me even further.

I was happy that i made very few mistakes on squats, but just changing the stance a bit or the position of the bar on the shoulders are great adjustments!!

Excellent DK!  Thanks for the heads up - just what I needed!  :)

I should stop into the Training forum more often.

Actually the Training and the Nutrition board is all you need, the rest of getbig is pure entertainment!  ;D

I had a great leg WO yesterday.

I dropped all weights from the squat, started again only with the bar and loaded up with each set.

Squatting feels much better now, full squats with a slightly wider stance like suggested in the book. I will load up more weight next WO to see how much weight i can squat without sacrificing any form and still being able to do a full squat.

what does it say about leg extensions

It has Squats, deadlift, benchpress and a few other exercises, no leg extensions.

The book is about building strength.

Could you or anyone else give me a link to somewhere where I could download a whole load of strength/workout/nutritional etc e-books?

bummer

Who would need an explanation about leg extensions anyways?

Squats are coming along, still feels much better, no knee pain since i changed the form around.
