Yes, you are an idiot for thinking that.  Don't worry...I don't think you're a total idiot. 

Sorry, but people have every right to defend themselves.  While it is true that a firearm's main purpose is to kill, there are those in society that do not care if they hurt or kill people.  Citizens in every culture should have a right to defend themselves; as stated in my first post about the elderly couple, or even someone of my stature(younger and in shape).  Guns, while dangerous, are that great equalizer in the hands of those that use them for the defense of their person/family.  I would fully support and expect the elderly man to shoot the intruder in his home.   

If you take guns away only criminals will have them.  Gun laws do not affect criminals because by definition criminals do not follow the law.  I simply wish the news would report the over 2.5 million defensive civilian uses of firearms a year.  Let's not mention the very fun uses of firearms much like people tune cars or collect things as a hobby.  It is no different with firearms.
