It's 2009, why are you even bringing up slavery and using it as an excuse for a cultures shortcomings and failings?
Well, because it really isn't that far away. The last American slave died in 1979 in Florida. 1902 is the year in which the last slaves were freed. The last "Whites Only" signs were taken down in the mid 1970s. For many years, during the past century, they were shunned from professional sports, military,
et cetera.
This is about just 2 generations away.
But worry not, this created NO GENERATIONAL TRAUMA whatsoever.
If you think experiences like slavery have no effect on you and your family try going to jail for about 25 years and see what happens to your life and the lives of the people around you.
Then again it's way too big of an understanding dose. It's easier, more conscientiously gullible to stick to the on-off Caucasian thought process that there must be something wrong with their internal wiring. Doesn't matter that 99.9999% of their genes match those of Caucasians. Somehow we can't seem to find another answer to the sorrow and dispair our ancestors sowed (and we inherited by the way) other than the color of their skin.
And before you start your "I didn't say that you said that I said that you said" crusade let me reiterate that I am not saying that you are a racist, I am merely saying that the simplicity with which you seem to observe a very complex social, racial and cultural problem carries a very racial undertone, again, not by your own analysis, but probably because you read it somewhere.
