for a newbie: what's tougher 3 day a week or 4 day a week?
« on: September 03, 2009, 09:35:45 AM »
sorry for the stupid question but after working out for the past 5 months ready to move on after doing my full body workout 3 times a week (mon, wed, fri) was wondering if i should go to a

3 day a week (same days of the week) split routine or a

4 days a week (mon,tues,thurs,fri) split routine?

which would be more wise to do? right now i DON"t want the more difficult routine!

i need to move slowly and surely so tell me should i do 3 day a week or the 4 day a week, obviously which ever one i do, i will then move on to the next one.

thanks in advance for the expert opinions!

Man you way over think things...IF you are making progress doing full body then stick with it. There is no "ultimate" routine that will work for everyone. Adjust everything if progress stalls- diet, cardio, supplements etc

full body workouts are ok, until your poundages go up,, then u spend far too much time building up in each exercise...

you could split your body into 2 halves... 1..legs and arms, and 2..chest,shoulders and back

train your usual 3 days per week, monday 1, wed 2, fri 1 etc etc

First, WHAT are your goals? Nobody can suggest ANYTHING if they don't know what your trying to accomplish.

just turned 45! 5'10 and weigh 225 pounds with a way too high bodyfat % percentage hovering around 18-20 percent! too damn high

eventually want to lose the bodyfat and keep the same weight if not add more?! dream goal would be 230-240 year round and bodyfat hovering around 10 percent? (guess i would have to take "special"supplements for that goal to happen?!!

so like everyone else want to get huge and have a low bodyfat year round

right now, i suspect i should first try to get the bodyfat percentage down while still trying to maintain my bodyweight, then once i am towards 10 percent, then i can go from there to bulking up and watching the bodyfat percentage. my biggest fear or concern is that i don't want to lose bodyweight to try to lose bodyfat!

i mean i dont' want to lose 15 to 20 pounds just to see some abs! not going for the swimmer/weekend warrior look! want to go past a fitness model physique but stop at being ridiculously monstrous gigantic looking blocky off season bodybuilder physique that looks like a football player not in actuality a bodybuilder!

I don't understand why so many people worry so much about their body weight, why not just go by what you see in the mirror? I mean if your not an athlete that has to make a way in why does it matter if your  240 or 210 if you look how you want to look?

My advice would be to go with, say, the 3 day a week routine, then go to 4 days a week, or even 5, a few months later.  The body's an amazing machine and can adapt quickly to new challenges.  90% of the time, this is what happens when you hear people talk about hitting "plateaus."  By the same token, don't switch things up TOO often...inconsistency is bad because it almost always goes hand in hand with a lack of devotion.
