It appears from the tone of the posts here that many of you have a certain distain for pro-bodybuilders. This is interesting to say the least. If you feel this way about bodybuilding, why are you even posting on a site devoted to that sport?
The combination of good physical genetics and a strong burning desire to tap into that and put in all the work and sacrifice to reach one's ultimate muscular potential is an accomplishment in and of itself. Such dedication is nothing to scoff at in a time when achieving success in any life endeavor for anyone is more difficult and competitive than ever in history.
It is obvious that “retired” pro bodybuilders continue to live their lives in many different ways, just as do all retired athletes. Pro-bodybuilding as with many sports offers one the "glory" days earlier on in life and for a shorter duration for many other non sport related careers. However, it is not unique in this respect. Careers in the arts are often also more accessible to the young than the more mature or seasoned individual with few exceptions. A young, beautiful, sexy and talented actress has a somewhat better chance of getting roles than does a more mature, seasoned, sexy and talented actress does. Male actors are somewhat more fortunate because women admire more mature successful men while me often prefer youth over maturity in women.
In all types of careers, folks do what they feel is necessary to succeed. So, pro-bodybuilders who capitalize on the admiration of others who either wish they could be, have been or who see them as some sort of trophy accomplishment and are willing to pay for the privilege of their company are no more of a whore than the rest of world which kisses ass each day for a paycheck.
At least, for those bodybuilding folk who have maintained a physically healthy lifestyle along the way and who continue to train well into their senior years, good health is a bonus. Keep in mind that realistically, the number of bodybuilders who succumb to dubiously related steroid illnesses is comparatively small.
