No. It can be a serious situation because it's trying to redirect.  It's more than someone simply reporting the site as unsafe.

How is it so easy to hack in to a server, though?  That's the part I don't understand.

Not hacking the server, but going through the weaknesses of .js scripts and other files from programs.  You are at the mercy of other people's programs, hence the updates.
