days not weeks  . . . . . Or months. . .   . .or billions of dollars.

bush/cheney had an optimistic view of how iraq would play out.  didn't work out that way.

Gadhafi Son Rebels Said They Captured Turns Up With Government Troops (says it was a trap)
ABC News ^
Posted on August 22, 2011 9:39:57 PM EDT by Borough Park

One of Moammar Gadhafi's sons whom the rebels claimed to have captured appeared tonight with the Libyan strongman's troops, telling reporters that his father was safe in Tripoli and that the balance of power has shifted.

"We have broken the backbone of the rebels. It was a trap," Seif al Islam Gadhafi told the BBC. "We gave them a hard time, so we are winning."

Seif al Islam was seen laughing, carried on the shoulders of government soldiers and riding on a tank near the Rixos Hotel, where many foreign journalists are staying.

When asked by reporters whether Gadhafi was safe, Seif al Islam laughed and said, "Of course."

LOL @ Americans re-telling the tales of terrorist leaders.

kadaffi blew up a plane full of americans.  not 'some group he was associated with did this or that..."

No, he directly sanctioned that and we tried to bomb him for it.  guilty.  no denying.  yet people seem to trumpet his praises because they hate obama.

You still don't fucking get it do you? There is this thing called the constitution, and yes even the POTUS must adhere to it.

LOL @ you for being a "the ends justify the means" asshat, no matter how illegal or unconstitutional.

I didn't say it was RIGHT for obama to ignore the constitution.  But it's what he did.

obama spent 1.1 billion in Libya (plus mercenary costs, we don't list those).

Kadaffi ousted for that cheap?  An american killer taken down for that little money?

We spend WAY more than that in Iraq or afghanistan on a weekly basis - and those results?  Um

You can spin, twist, contort all you want. The simple fact of the matter is this is illegal and unconstitutional.
1.1 billion is on the cheap? Man you must be a rich SOB. Not to mention the fact that Kadhaffi is not dead or in "custody".

Um what, oh that's right you want to quantify this with something else ::)

If the only justification for bombing some place in the ME is because there is/are American killers there, better strap in its going to be a bumpy ride.

120 keeps mentioning Bush and Iraq everytime on this thread.

120, was there a declaration of war and approval by Congress to go to war with Iraq? If there was, why do you keep bringing it up? How is it remotely the same?

This probably needs its own thread but....

What exactly is going on in Libya at this moment? Have the rebels actually seized the capitol and toppled the govt? Are the sons arrested? Where is the Col.? There are still reports of fighting going on in the capital. Did the Col. actually sanction mass slaughter of civilians? Why don't we know anything?

What are the "rebel" forces actually? Are they just Eastern tribes fighting against the Western tribes? Muslim Brotherhood? Will we really see a "inclusive" democratic government?

I would have rather seen Obama spend this money to assist the peoples revolution in Iran when it was popping off....instead he did nothing and watched as the protesters and students were slaughtered.

it's gonna be kinda crazy... lots of info, disinfo, true and false reports.  history is being made here.  The US and the UN are in the midst of toppling a terrorist regime.  It's a pretty big deal.

Sure, pessimists will say "but but but the next guys will be bad too.." and that may or may not be true.  but we do know that whoever comes in, they CERTAINLY will not have the power, insulation, and connections taht kadaffi had after 42 years.  The dude was a ghost - ruling from hiding.  New guy won't have that problem - they'll have to be visible to maintain power - which means they're WAY more vulnerable than Kadaffi, who lived in military bases and nobody knew where he was.
