Would this be the case for jackets as well TA? I'm going to buy a schott perfecto and can't decide what leather is best.

YES!

I have a few Perfectos and Horsehide is the best, but their Steer Hide is incredible too.  I have one particular Schott Perfecto from the late 50s early 60s that is labeled Western Costume Co., brown steer hide.  Western Costume Co. never lets any of their Hollywood costumes out of their warehouse so I was surprised to find it.  I`ve been trying to find which movie it was used in, if any, and who wore it but no avail so far.

Goatskin is incredibly durable also, but I am not sure if Schott is making any this year.  Goatskin is what is used on all authentic Flight Jackets and will last forever.  

My best Horsehide though is a full length World War II Nazi Great Overcoat.

The character that twenty year old Shell Cordovan develops is something that our disposable culture can't appreciate.  I'll keep my Aldens and they can have all the yellow soled Cole Haans they want.

I have said this in the past on here, Quality American made goods are vastly superior to any in the world in my opinion.

Thanks my cultured broski, very informative.  The horsehide is the most $, that's the problem with cheap leather, it gets worse as it ages, with quality leather it gets better. Really, a Nazi overcoat? A lot of their clothing was made by Hugo Boss were they not. Interesting to see a pic TA.

But no you can't really go wrong with the design classics, they don't date.
