It's not a terrible casual look imho.  Hard to pull off a jacket without an interesting texture in plain black.  I would have gone with a navy jacket and a darker wash on the jeans.

It's actually been made in my town now for over 2000 years, maldon sea salt company has been making the stuff in the same way since the late 1800's - great stuff for finishing any food. Funny you mention dessert: This is from their site

The character that twenty year old Shell Cordovan develops is something that our disposable culture can't appreciate.  I'll keep my Aldens and they can have all the yellow soled Cole Haans they want.

The Perfecto is a timeless style, buy the original and appreciate it for what it is.  Although they are available in different leathers now the ones you saw the guys in the old movies are horsehide as it was a common leather at the time.
