You're the one who is assuming the stance of "English Professor"..

Yes, that's why I started a thread about the "misconstruing" of heroin.

You're the one that feels the need to point out grammatical errors.  So are you playing the role of English professor or just trolling aggressively for some attention?

You're not getting a rise out of me or anyone else, so what's the point?

I'm a peaceful man...but I get this irresistible urge to take my peepee out and slap it across the face of anyone who begins a sentence with the word "Frankly..."

Why do you suppose you have an issue with the word "frankly"? Was it something you mama said to you when you were in trouble for something? I find the word "peepee" very juvenile for a supposedly grown man to use.  :-\

Last time I heard it mispronounced it was actually by a "white" rapper on the radio.

Prior to that instance, I was watching an interview on youtube where a radio host was interviewing Frank Lucas and upon speaking of his Heroin sales, would continuously pronounce it as "hair-on".

This mispronunciation is not necessarily limited to any ethnic group.  I am just wondering whether both forms are actually acceptable or is it a slang term used for the drug in certain groups.

wtf is "oxford english" you pompous old assbag? and "Pigeon English"?  WTF is that? english spoken by pigeons? Try "pidgin," fucktard.

and OMR - always trying to act cultured to cover up the fact that he dragged himself up from some immigrant ghetto. you can't hide your roots, brah.  no need to act offended by hair-on when your command of the language is pathetic to begin with ("when did the pronunciation of the word become so misconstrued?" ok, don king, do you even know what misconstrue means?  ::))

You got me on the "pidgin" English as opposed to pigeons who speak English mistake. Just proves I am not perfect....never said I was either. At least you are smart enough to have figured out what I meant. I give you credit for that. Some folks believe that "Oxford" English is proper English and everything else is just slang. In terms of this, Americans generally do not speak or use Oxford English.

Clowney, you seem to get miffed so easily. People saying hair-on for heroin doesn't offend me in the least. I have no idea where you got idea from. To the best of my knowledge, I don't know people who use heroin, hair-on or smack so how that culture chooses to talk is of no importance to me.

Yes I do know the meaning of the word misconstrue. You seem to have misconstrued what I said with regards to the English language as a put-down to those who use slang or otherwise alter language. In truth, how people speak, speaks volumes about them and frequently "classifies" them in various ways, such as their economic status, education and where they grew up, etc.

I didn't rise from an immigrant ghetto, as you suggest. Of course there is always the off chance my ancestors who immigrated to America from England prior to the Revolutionary War and who also fought in that war, may have lived humbly at first. I cannot imagine that there were ghettos in America back in the 1700's though.

I have answers to all of your questions sir:

1- It comes across as being pompous, ostentatious, highfaluting

2- regarding my mama...impossible! I had 2 "dads"

3- I literally LOL'd at your last sentence. Peepee is perhaps the most juvenile phallic reference, that's correct, and that's why it was my word of choice. In real life, I would not slap my peepee on your face. That would be very rude. But on GetBig, I would do it many times over to make a point. Nothing personal my friend :D

most of my post was directed at OMR.

not miffed - just tired of old guys acting like the world is going to hell in a handbasket b/c someone doesn't speak "standard" english

and in OMR's case, maybe i misconstrue his true motivations for a self-satisfied better-than-thou attitude. anywho, don't care much either way.

1. Quite frankly, I could give a rat's ass if people thought I was highfalutin, pompous and ostentatious....but honestly, that is just your frank opinion.

2. There was a mama somewhere in your history; Frankly, two dads can't make a baby as yet. Perhaps one of your dads played the mama to you or one or both of them were pompous, highfalutin and ostentatious in their word choice. Were either of your dads named Frank?

3. Yes, "slapping your peepee" on my face would indeed be rude, plus in real life if you did that you'd risk losing your peepee. I have learned that for some people nothing is real on Getbig and perhaps to some, also in real life. Frankly speaking....speaking will all frankness, I don't take what you say personally, nor should you feel my response is personal either.  ;D

Don't be so quick to judge me. Yes I am an old man. Yes I do find some slang amusing, sometimes confusing and occasionally annoying. No I don't believe the world is going to hell in a hand-basket either because of language and dialects or otherwise. I do worry about overpopulation sometimes....but that has nothing to do with language. Perhaps if people talked more they would have less time to be "breeders" and the world would be better off. If you were to meet me on the street, you'd probably be surprised at how laid-back, friendly and non-judgmental I really am. I have no clue what OMR is like in real life but I find his choice of George Michael for a profile photo interesting and amusing.

You have no idea where the word ghetto originated, do you, english professor?

Your question peaked my interest since I didn't know the origin of the word ghetto. So I did a little research and here is the best of what I found.

To quote from the source:

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term is of uncertain etymology but is probably Italian in origin and was perhaps used for the first time in Venice, circa 1516, to describe a neighborhood on the site of the city’s foundry.

Early in its history, the word "ghetto" denoted a walled-off and gated section in a city to which Jews were restricted. The word was chiefly used in Italy, especially in port cities like Venice in which large populations of Jews—many of whom were traders and money lenders—lived. Because they were viewed as cultural minorities due to their non-Christian beliefs in a Renaissance Christian environment, Jews were placed under strict regulations throughout many European cities.

Touché; with you to help me, I may actually someday learn to write proper English. Thanks.

Shouldn't it be chocolate bon-bons or bonbons and not the singular bonbon. Perhaps you ate all but one of them?  :-*
