I think deadlifting is a dangerous exercise for biceps, that's why you should do them with dumbbells instead of barbells so the arms can adjust to their natural position over the whole lift.

Come to think of it, why use barbell for anything, arms are made to operate independently in all directions.

You do have a point, but personally I'd say any improper form or too much useless heavy weight would cause injuries. I'd say best approach is moderation, good form and focusing on contracting the muscle tissue with muscle and mind connection.

I am pretty sure I have minor anterior labral tears on both shoulders from prolonged wear and tear, but I am still able to crank out moderate to heavy weights without suffering from any subluxations or dislocations.

My biggest fear (besides going under Anesthesia - which should be the biggest fear as it can lead to death) is that not all shoulder surgeries are successful. Some end up with complications like infections, chronic pain, further reduced range of motion and/or an inability for the shoulder to be restored to its original form.

While many people have experienced great results from undergoing shoulder surgery for an anterior, posterior or even SLAP tear, I still worry about the pain not going away and whether it will become a revolving door for us patients.

Best of luck either way man, I wish you the very best!

all I can say is at 5 months post op I am happy with my slap repair surgery....granted mine was a major tear so I had to have it repaired. The difference is immeasurably positive from prior to surgery.

Same here.  Had the surgery done and I am very pleased with the results.  I'm very happy I had the surgery.

Lol of all thing it was playing disc golf!  Hurt real bad when it happened sent a jolt through my body almost like getting the wind knocked out. During normal activities there is no pain. Pain only when lift arm above head like working shoulders or shooting g basketball. After I get warmed up I can play basketball pretty painless.

Lol! Disc golf? Shit i guess you never know when you can injure yourself, not neccessarily with weights either.

Thanks bro. As far as you having concerns with surgery, that's understandable. Infact for any surgery, any type of possibilities of something going wrong is possible. But you'd also have to look at things on a brighter side, such as will it be worth it, will i gain more with surgery than the current physical state i'm in now. Also, the type of shoulder surgery that i had or one that you might consider at least its not heart or brain surgery, or shoulder or hip replacement for example. Either way best advice i could give you is, have surgery as a last resort only if you think your body needs it and knowing it'll make your body physically stronger. And do some solid research for a great Orthopedic Surgeon and Physical Therapist! You can get their opinions too prior to having any kind of surgery done, doesnt hurt.

Agreed!

If I go under the knife for my shoulder problems, I would have had to exhaust both physical therapy and use of anti-inflammatory meds (just short of developing stomach ulcers or kidney problems).

As you get older though (for us guys in our 40's), these injuries don't typically go away or get better.

This is true. But do keep in mind as you get older the surgical aspect, and recuperation wont be as easy as when you're younger. Either way, ultimately it'll be a decision that only you know when your body's ready when the time is right.

Good thanks. Seem to be getting better by the day. Right now just trying to focuse on minimizing as much scar tissue as possible through physical therapy. Keep the shoulder mobile and not let it "freeze" to avoid limited range of motion. It's been 23 days since the surgery, and happy so far with the outcome pretty much.
