Actually, Europeans should be asking themselves why is it that during the biggest tech revolution of the past 100 years Europe as a whole has been a virtual no show.

Prove me wrong by pointing to the European counterparts to:

Apple
Amazon

The availability of venture capital funding in the USA is what made these companies succeed in the USA. Plenty of funds owned by the 0.1% built up massive investments pots made possible my the milking of the 99.9% thru things like overpriced medical costs etc.
Amazon was built up by a guy from Glasgow Scotland and where exactly is Amazon located from a tax point of view? Is it American? You may be surprised at the truth. ;)

the UK system costs a huge amount in hidden taxes, and if you want good quality of life care, just like in the US, you need BUPA or other private insurance.

old people here in the US have 'free' healthcare from medicare, its not great but just as good as the NHS for basic surgery etc.

If you have a good job here in the US and good insurance your quality of health care will piss all over European basic care.

I'm from the UK and lived in other socialized medicine countries like Canada, and what I get here with my job is literally night and day. MRI's done in a day, chose world class surgeons, great drug plans, HRT and all kinds of ancillaries covered etc. Although Obamacare just made my plan a lot worse this year.

Of course it sucks here in the US with no job and no healthcare. And ER charges are insane because homeless people, illegals, and broke people use them as primary doctors, so the ER charges insurance of those who have coverage to make up the shortfall

People with no real life experience of these systems tend to make the most noise about whats 'best'

America has hundreds of millions of obese poor people so the country would be bankrupt if they ever switched to single payer. $10 a gallon gas, national insurance charges on income tax, scrapping all kinds of tax breaks etc. Would be horrific

Yes, as you say, no show. Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Audi, Linux, Nokia, Skype, Spotify..list is endless. If you pull your head out from your ass, you will see that your life is depending on European innovations. Apple = computer made by Chinese with the parts made in Taiwan and  China. Dream on, stupid, that is just what your government want you to do. While you are sleeping, 1% of Americans owns more than rest 99%. That is soul of your capitalism, 99% of you are working to keep 1% as rich as it is humanly possible. In fact, you are just slaves of capitalistic elite. Your freedom is just an illusion which is based the brainwash just like they used to do in CCCP. You have been taught in to believe that USA is best place in earth, which it isn't. Just look how your economy is collapsing, state debts etc. which are matters which should be fixed ASAP, but you don't have any means how. Your health care system is only an income transfer from the poor and middle-income to the rich, just as the bag of worms which you call the military budget. You guys keep up the wars just because it means easy money to that 1%.

In Romania is different, obviously. There is medical insurance and hospital fees. Dismal stuff. However, if you don't tip the doctors, they will not operate on you.

Not sure if serious. ....

For most Americans, the thought of paying an extra $.001 in taxes and possibly helping someone else is abhorrent because that is Communism.

On the other hand, getting ripped off by a hospital for $250,000 is fine because that is Capitalism.

Come to the UK and you get healthcare for free.

Be stuck on a filthy ward, with 20 sick people and 2 nurses running around.

The Dr appears for about 45 mins and gives each patient 2-3 minutes of his time with the curtain drawn - and neither prescribes or recommends anything.

My grandad had one horrible, rock-hard little pillow whilst in agony with cancer so we took him our own bedding in, and he stuck 2.5ft away from a guy whom had lung cancer.

This guy was coughing constantly and fighting for his breath. Whilst we were there they drew the curtains and the priest came along to give him his last fairy tale.

When your a "paying" customer they treat you far better. Ive had private healthcare and it's night and day in comparison. Your own room - choose something to eat off a menu etc.

In the UK we have no choice, they take the money in taxes and that's that. There is no "opt out" policy for those who want to make their own arrangements.

it varies depending on hospital.
I had op and a weeks stay in the newcastle r.v.i and they were faultless. Ward was cleaned every day. The surgeon even used to visit his patients on his days off.
My son goes to the r.v.i also for his underactive thyroid and they are great.

Haha

You bitch about the 1% in America, yet the first two companies on your list Mercedes and Ferrari makes car primarily for elites. Btw, those are old companies. I was asking for new companies. Among the biggest tech companies as I said Europe is a no show.

The reason for this is the anti-capitalist mentality that you display. Steve Jobs or Jeff Bezos never could've achieved what they did in Europe. In your warped mind guys like that are leeches, when, in fact, they are type who make everyone's life better.

Does Apple only make products for the 1%? Amazon? Google?

I'm continually amazed how much people take for granted. You make it seem like the non one percent have nothing. This is from 2005, but it gives an idea of what it's like to be poor in America:

76 percent have air conditioning.
66 percent have more than two rooms of living space per person.
97 percent own at least one color television.
62 percent have either cable or satellite television.
Almost 75 percent of households own a car (30 percent own two or more).
73 percent own microwave ovens.
More than 50 percent have stereos.
33 percent have automatic dishwashers.
99 percent have refrigerators.
Virtually none lack running water or flushing toilets.
46 percent own their own home, the average of which is a three bedroom house with 1.5 baths, that has a carport and porch or patio, and the average value of which is 70 percent of the median American home.

You ruin your argument with this graphic. Japan is on that list several times, and according to US standards it is almost a full-blown commie state.

And this is considered a big deal? Okay, on housing space (not quality, just space) you have other countries beat. Higher population density means land is expensive here. The rest? Not really impressive.

You mean you don't have Ferrari?

Let look that little bit closer:

76 percent have air conditioning. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT, BECAUSE IT IS WARMER IN MOST PARTS OF USA.
66 percent have more than two rooms of living space per person. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT CONTRACEPTION
97 percent own at least one color television. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT, BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID TO SPEND TIME OUTSIDE THE APARTMENT
62 percent have either cable or satellite television. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT TO WATCH PORN, THOSE WANKERS
Almost 75 percent of households own a car (30 percent own two or more). BECAUSE THEY NEED IT, IT IS A FUCKIN BIG COUNTRY AND GASOLINE IS CHEAP
73 percent own microwave ovens. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT, BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO COOK
More than 50 percent have stereos. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT TO COVER SOUNDS OF THE CRACK HOUSE NEXT DOOR
33 percent have automatic dishwashers. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT WASH DISPOSABLE MICROWAVE DISHES
99 percent have refrigerators. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT TO KEEP BEER COLD IN WARM CLIMATE
Virtually none lack running water or flushing toilets. BECAUSE THEY NEED IT OR THEY SHIT ALL OVER THE PLACE
46 percent own their own home, the average of which is a three bedroom house with 1.5 baths, that has a carport and porch or patio, and the average value of which is 70 percent of the median American home. BECAUSE THEY NEED TO, BECAUSE THERE IS NO REAL OPTIONS OTHER THAN THAT

How about in Europe? We don't have as much air conditioning as you have, but just about everything else is same, only cheaper. You should understand that there is geographical and other reasons why things are how they are, and that has nothing to do with your childish claims. Most of you are ignorant shit kickers, and there is nothing which could change that fact.

Healthcare in the US is expensive because of government interference in the free market.  Government mandates in Healthcare are extremely expensive to comply with thus smaller companies without the funds die out and the monopolies increase.  There is also no state vs state competition so HC companies aren't forced to lower their prices from neighboring states.   BCBS of Louisiana has a 90% market share....90%!!  They didn't get that because they provide better value.  They got from laws and regulations bought from the state legislature and the government squashing competitors.  What incentive do they have with a 90% market share to improve their service or lower their prices?  They also receive HUGE sums of Medicare and Medicaid payments (taxpayer monies).  Again, government subsidizing big business.

healthcare like college tuition suffers increasing costs because of direct government subsidization and the cost of regulatory compliance.  Remove these and prices WILL fall to what customers can afford.
