Tabata intervalls 5 times a week is all you need...

Go all out 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, repeat 4-8 times. If you're not puking at the end, you're not doing it right.

Many, many studies find that protocol much more beneficial for cardio than steady ass (50 minutes) 5 times a week.

You're right in that better for "cardio" but depends on goals as not better for burning more cals as most "experts" will say that the tabata cardio protocol isn't quite ideal for that so I prefer longer hiit in my case (20min) but have done the tabata style and was very tough.

Agreed... Not so good for burning calories... Gotta fuck the wife for that (note to self: find a wife!)

When I first tried to "run" 2 years ago i started a 5k and was a disaster - multiple stops, 10 min miles.  Said fuck it and just did three weeks of 20 min HIIT.  That was it for cardio.

Tried the 5k again and did it in under 24 min (7.5 min mile) and never looked back.

Now, I don't know how it translates into longer time frames (10+ miles running, rucking) but it definitely got things going in the right direction.

Same here! Couldn't run for the life of me after years of trying to bulk up (what a stupid concept that is anyways). I would get horrible shin splints so long distances were out of the question. Started doing intervalls and probably made more progress in a year than long distance folks in a lifetime... No shin splints, no pain plus you look like a badass ramping that threadmill as fast as it can go :-)

I've run 3 full marathons over the years. During my time in the mountains of Afghanistan and during my workups for Afghanistan I've hiked from Sun up to Sun down.

Never more than 1 hour.  I get better results from dieting than doing a ton of cardio.

I've done kick boxing sessions that lasted 45 minutes.  No telling how many calories burned during that.

if and when i do cardio now, which is pretty much once a week, it's HIT for 20 minutes or so.  I'll do some sparing or bag work for Muay thai most weekends for about 1 hour.

It's about that time to start getting back on the cardio/diet bandwagon. .kicked it off with an 80 min cardio session on the stair climber. ..got me thinking whats the most cardio you've ever done in 1 day..during my last prep I had a few days where I was doing 3 hrs total (3 sessions)..almost 800 cals burned in this session.

over 5 hours (race pace)

I swam 2k in open water (sea)
Cycled 90k, then Ran half a marathon (over 21k)

I felt physically sick for one week after, took me three weeks to fully recover

Woooooooooosssshhhhhhhh

All of this wasted energy could be put to use raking leaves, picking up sticks, digging ditches, breaking rocks in the sun, polishing wood floors by hand, plowing fields.

Seriously, if you are going to do that much cardio, at least do something productive with it.  Let me know if you want some tasks that will burn a ton of calories.  I could use the free labor.
