wow wasn't expecting that
« on: February 11, 2016, 02:31:24 PM »
So I've pretty much been at the same level of strength for two years. I've tried everything....every routine...every assistance exercise.....eating more etc and my strength gains were minimal. I was moving some decent weight  to begin with but I still felt like I should have been gaining better. . started wondering if I could of just been out of shape.

Started to do some  cardio keeping my heart rate at 130 bmp on off days for the past two  weeks. Low and behold my bench was up 20 pounds today.HAven't even been training hard either.  ;D

when you start approaching a double bodyweight bench  a 20 pounds increase over a year is GREAT.....two weeks? GTFO..goes to show you how you really can't build strength if you have a shitty  aerobic base. I think the fact that Im sleeping better from it might be another factor.

So are you saying that you solved the longstanding sprinter vs marathon runner debate?

You probably were going heavy too often and needed a break.

Sometimes lowering training poundages or intensity is just what the doctor ordered.

Getting some sleep doesn't hurt either.

Perhaps your body is finally maturing Flint?

I don't think you realize how much these athletes sleep.

Aside from all the PEDs and obvious gifted genetics, most training programs heavily focus on down-time and recovery.
If you read the book by Galabin Boevski "The White prisoner" you'll find some funny fragments of Abadjiev both enforcing bed-times and drug regimes.

Galabin Boevski "The White prisoner"

Also source of classics such as “I’m not a mule,” “I am Galabin Boevski. Legendary weightlifter and Olympic champion, not a criminal!"

Interesting.  Perhaps it has something to do with staying the same age for six years straight.

Im saying that having a poor aerobic base might limit your strength gaining potential.... I have no reason to bullshit Im not competing in a powerlifting competition against you guys lol. How about everyone that doesn't do any aerobic work tries cardio on their off days keeping their heart rate at 120-130bmp for 30-60 minutes  and comes back to this thread in a month with their new lifts.
