If manga starts getting picked up, I'll be stoked.

Berserk could be HUGE, absolutely epic, multiple trilogies.

I've heard death note was 'in the works' on and off, could be great.

Vampire hunter D, like drkaje mentioned, would be awesome.  The list goes on and on and on, really...

Scarlett J UTTERLY miscast in ghost in the shell, though... Shoulda went with noomi rapace or Rooney Mara, IMO.

I only hope Hollywood can get the aesthetics right.  Will be a huge challenge... a lot of us just don't seem to 'get' Japanese style, unfortunately.  They did well with edge of tomorrow, which many people probably don't know was based on a Japanese novel.

I think the easiest will be stuff like berserk or monster, which already had a clear Western influence to begin with.

Berserk would be great as a live action motion-picture, with Danny DeVito as Guts and Woody Allen as Nosferatu Zodd.

This fad isn't going anywhere

I know a lot of parents of young kids and they have all been sucked into this shit badly.  If you have a child at the moment, chances are the kid loves batman and the avengers and shit like that.

So you've got a whole generation of kids growing up with it being financially viable to make movies from superheroes.

CEPHISSIUS, I have heard that DEATH NOTE is in pre-production but I was not familiar with the story-line, so I looked it up on IMDB and a short synopsis is as shown below.

Apparently this will be the second major Hollywood production following the anticipated success of GHOST IN THE SHELL which I am presently watching with difficulty as I find it to be somewhat boring.

The following Death Note synopsis may be a SPOILER ALERT so fair warning is advised .......

"Light is an extremely brilliant but bored high-school student until the strange day when he accidentally encounters the Death Note; a mysterious notebook with the power to kill anyone whose name is written inside of it.

With the Death Note in hand, he goes on a personal crusade and moves to kill all evil in the world and become God. He does this all in his new name, Kira, and declares himself the law and justice of the world.

At first things go as he planned, and he moves toward making a 'better' world. However, things don't go as he had anticipated as the relentless 'L' works to track him down, and arrest him."

This sounds to be more interesting than Ghost in the Shell but I am not familiar with Japanese comics since the day I finally realized that you had to read them backwards.

@ stuntmovie,

The Deathnote anime was pretty good. I never got around to reading the Manga but one of the kids liked it pretty well.

Thanks, DR,  I'm going to stop by the library (a great library here in LV) and see if they have  a Manga section and check it out.

"MANGA" is probably the only topic in the Universe that I am not totally familiar with, so once I get it down pat ... my brain will most likely get too filled up and explode and place me on a level field with a few other brain-blown GetBiggers  .... which leaves you out of that equation of course!

Dos you have any knowledge about or opinion regarding GHOST IN THE SHELL?

It appears that most of Hollywood is waiting for the opening weekend figures of that anticipated event before jumping into Manga with both feet flying.

But if GHOST does fails  ...... Death-Note could shortly follow to "save the day!"

(Whatever did happen to Mighty Mouse anyway?)

It was a very intense series towards the end but my kid didn't appreciate some of the more subtle references.

Due to family obligations and interests, I am sometimes obligated to pay for a ticket and watch he latest DC or Marvel flick!

Just sat through roughly 150 minutes of the latest Captain America movie

Way too long and too much the same with all this computer generated extravaganza shit with fast cut fight scenes.

In a few of those scenes I could not "differenciate" between the puncher and the punchee and often wished that someone would take a bullet to the noggin and end it in half the time (or less)!

No spoilers here but I think you will all enjoy the only scenes that I found to be of interest which were the scenes when Spiderman/boy  showed up to save the day!

You're gonna swear that he is the son of Deadpool! .... which made that part of the movie worth watching.

Otherwise you'll be seeing the 'same-old-same-old' with a twist to make it different from the other same-old-same-old.

Don't leave before the credits roll because halfway through that 'roll' they included a scene from a future movie, but since I am no longer a Superhero fan ..... I have no idea what that was all about.

And was that an elephant shaped 'rock' I saw during the final 1 second scene of that overlong 2.5 hour same-old-same-old?

OH, I also go see these superhero movie to see what the hell Stan will be  doing next.

Is there an Academy award for doing next to nothing, but doing next to nothing well?

So this afternoon, Stan and Spidey saved the day!

For years to come.
