HOW LONG WILL THESE SUPERHERO MOVIES BE POPULAR??!
« on: May 06, 2016, 06:40:14 PM »
Due to family obligations and interests, I am sometimes obligated to pay for a ticket and watch he latest DC or Marvel flick!

Just sat through roughly 150 minutes of the latest Captain America movie

Way too long and too much the same with all this computer generated extravaganza shit with fast cut fight scenes.

In a few of those scenes I could not "differenciate" between the puncher and the punchee and often wished that someone would take a bullet to the noggin and end it in half the time (or less)!

No spoilers here but I think you will all enjoy the only scenes that I found to be of interest which were the scenes when Spiderman/boy  showed up to save the day!

You're gonna swear that he is the son of Deadpool! .... which made that part of the movie worth watching.

Otherwise you'll be seeing the 'same-old-same-old' with a twist to make it different from the other same-old-same-old.

Don't leave before the credits roll because halfway through that 'roll' they included a scene from a future movie, but since I am no longer a Superhero fan ..... I have no idea what that was all about.

And was that an elephant shaped 'rock' I saw during the final 1 second scene of that overlong 2.5 hour same-old-same-old?

OH, I also go see these superhero movie to see what the hell Stan will be  doing next.

Is there an Academy award for doing next to nothing, but doing next to nothing well?

So this afternoon, Stan and Spidey saved the day!

Hopefully, this fad will come to an end. I've only see 2 of the superhero movies and I have no interest in seeing any more.

I guess I could understand why some people enjoy them.

This movie is expected to break opening weekend records, so there's a little more gas in the tank.

Going to see it tomorrow night. I don't have a problem with their popularity. I loved comic books when I was growing up and wished we could get some decent comic book movies. Marvel was really savvy in establishing this shared universe.

The fight scenes are all blurry now and hard to see what's happening. I saw a commercial for the Warcraft movie and it looked like two real people in a cartoon world. Just horrible green screen cgi shit. Do actors even have to leave their homes anymore?

I will be going to a theater to see this in a few days. I'll enjoy it, no doubt.

But objectively, yes, the whole superhero movie overload is nearing critical mass.

I have no idea who this new group of anti-heroes are but the movie is forthcoming and will be called SUICIDE SQUAD.

The Suicide Squad previews looked pretty damn impressive but the only recognizable character in it is BATMAN and an unrecognizable JOKER.

The young girl who plays one of the anti-hero characters appears to be a promising and upcoming actress, but I have no idea who she is.

Family members worked on this one but all are very secretative and encourage me to make sure I see it as they are positive that this is one such movie that I will appreciate.

I'm looking forward to a Super Hero movie in which the super hero characters fook everything up but still manage to subdue the super-villiin.

Something like that will be forthcoming.

the fast-cut nonsense has no right to exist anymore.  since the avengers, filmmakers have continued to take things to the next level

kingsman: the secret service
dredd
the revenant
mad max: fury road

For as long as people watch them. They make lots of money. And they're only getting started in terms of storylines.

the revenant

A very singular film. Whether good or shit is debatable, but unique nonetheless.

Eh, most of the movies are fun enough to watch, but some are definitely better than the others.  I liked Ironman, Cap 2, and Guardians, IIRC.   Liked Nolan's first two Batmans.

And, they get to DVD so fast now, you can wait and spend $1 to watch them if you don't want to risk the $$ on piece of crap.

Like Avatar and look how much that made. People were raving about the special effects. I found it terrible. Don't understand people.

Long time no see man!

If you wonder what I mean, take a look at the opening battle scene in the revenant, and compare it to similar scenes from gladiator, master and commander, or other similar movies from the early 2000s/late 90s.  We've come a long way... The construction of that scene is beautiful.

Btw, if anyone doubts me about kingsmen... Just see it.  That movie WILL go down in history as a seminal action flick, the definitive next step in the evolution of action.

John wick, by comparison, was two huge steps backwards.  Will never understand the injustice in critical reception here.

Back on topic, the thing with superhero movies is that they've been stuck on origin stories for way too long.  But these make the most money because newcomers who know nothing will always comprise the biggest audience.  You cant get deep and keep raking in the cash -- you'll start to lose people who havent been keeping up.  Welcome to getting old...

I couldn't believe my eyes with the opening scene in Revenant. It seemed most of it was filmed in one take, I can't imagine how long it took them.

I will download kingsmen based on your recommendation!

Yep, it was a masterpiece.

I don't actually remember much about kingsmen outside the action scenes, but they took the ever-more-seamless CGI from the original avengers (think Scarlett johanssens fight with the hulk on the airship) and took it to the next level, dynamically panning and slowing down/speeding up, utterly doing away with jump cuts and creating far and away the most coherent, fastest fight scenes of all time.  Utterly jawdropping.

Mad Max copied the on-the-fly speed changes shortly after, to great effect once more.

A ton of clever techniques available now to make some scenes seem like one shot but arnt.My fave legit scene is the first date scene in goodfellas where he takes her through the restaurant

Cephissius and Raymondo,

Great to notice that other GetBiggers appreciated that battle scene in The Revenant in which the camera did a 360 pan of all t he action that took place in that fantastic and extremely complicated shot.

I have witnessed a good number of  Hollywood filming sequences and was very impressed that it all came together so elaborately.

I left that theater asking myself two elementary questions….

Where was the film crew hiding as the  camera did its 360? Did the 20 or so other crew members plus all their equipment simply walk around in order to stay out of frame? Or were they all  hidden in that distant tree line in the background?

Was it even possible to rehearse that scene before the camera rolled and then set  that scene up again before the camera actually shot it?

That scene was more impressive than any other part of that movie, except for the fact that the acting was damn good too!
