that guy did not argue self defence. he was found guilty of manslaughter. he obviously got such a light sentence due to "mitigating circumstances".

the shopkeeper in this thread no doubt got a lighter sentence than usual for 2nd degree murder also due to mitigating circumstances.

Pretty much. I suspect the reason he got 8 years was becausing the guy was fleeing. I believe you cannot shoot someone who is fleeing because they are no longer considered a threat. But perhaps one of our resident getbig lawyers can step in and provide information.

He also had another robbery charge in 2015. he's out there kidnapping and robbing folks in 2014 and 2015, but he's still out to cause this poor guy trouble in 2016? Makes no sense.

I was not arguing whether or not it was an understandable action. Only trying to determine if his actions are deemed legal or illegal in the eyes of the law.

I'm no expert on the laws in that particular jurisdiction, but if he shot the Dindu while he was running away, it's almost certainly illegal.

That said, it's also certainly a case where the court should show leniency to this man and instead of giving him a jail sentence he and his family should be given an all expense paid trip to Disneyland.
